Chapter 398 Uncle

Chapter 398 Uncle

Lord Xie left the second son at the county office; how could she possibly repay such a huge favor?

Although she hadn't decided whether to bring it up yet, the second child was indeed her child.

He could go to Lord Xie to prove that he wouldn't become a live-in son-in-law if he had a better option.

Yeah, who the hell wants to be a submissive live-in son-in-law?

Just like a capable woman, who the hell wants to get married?

Unless they are mutually in love.

"Then why didn't he come home? That little brat, could it be because he's angry that I'm so nice to Sanwa?"

Lord Xie laughed, "Why does Sister Song miss her child so much? He's still in the army camp and won't be able to go to the yamen to pick up his post until next month."

Song Chunxue covered her embarrassment with a smile, "You flatter me. He used to be quite mischievous, but it seems he has been well-trained in the military for the past three years."

"Hmm, he looks somewhat like you, especially his mouth and eyes. He looks more like you than Sanwa."

"Haha, really?" Song Chunxue lowered her head and took a sip of tea, a strange feeling enveloping her. "He's just a bit more cunning than Sanwa."

“A slippery person gets along better in officialdom, that’s good.” Xie Zheng refilled her tea. “Next time you come to Jincheng, remember to look for me at Banjian Bookstore.”

"Half a bookstore?" Song Chunxue asked curiously, "Is it your bookstore?"

“It’s your bookstore. Of those two pieces of gold last time, one was used to buy the bookstore, which didn’t make much money, but the other piece bought things that were well worth the price. I’ll tell you more when you get to Jincheng.”

Watching him slowly and methodically sip his tea, Song Chunxue felt a pang of unease.

"You've even learned to keep people in suspense. It seems your career has been going well these past two years. You've actually thrived away from the familiar land of the capital."

Xie Zheng remained noncommittal, "It's all thanks to Sister Song. The talisman you gave me was very effective and changed my luck."

"You're too modest." He was still as gentle and refined as ever, but his speech had become much smoother, and he even knew how to flatter people. "You've changed a lot."

"Yes, I used to be too rigid, and it's all thanks to you. Ever since that time you spoke the truth after drinking, revealing your true nature, it has inspired me." Xie Zheng smiled brightly, his sincere eyes shining with vitality. "Breaking free from the shackles of Confucian classics, it's like being reborn."

Song Chunxue silently drank her tea; her stomach felt bloated.

He could get involved with her in everything, and she couldn't keep up with the conversation.

Although she had lived a long time, she had absolutely no experience with this kind of thing.

"Alright, I've received the items. You can go back now," Xie Zheng said with a hint of sarcasm. "Otherwise, you'll be restless again."

“You really are,” Song Chunxue said, feeling helpless and annoyed that he had seen through her. “Stop trying to be as quick-witted as others. You’d better be more dignified.”

She spoke the truth in a rather irritated tone, "The Lord Xie used to be sacred and inviolable, but now he's become a bit slippery. He'll change back next time."

As he watched her figure disappear through the doorway, Xie Zheng's composed smile vanished, replaced by bitterness and sorrow.

He thought to himself, "No one would truly like Lord Xie like that; he's too lonely."

He finally understood how to make himself more down-to-earth and why he had to go back to being himself.

When Song Chunxue got home, she was somewhat surprised.

Sanwa is hanging out the bright red bed sheets to dry.

It goes without saying what he's washing.

In his past life, the Third Brother would never have done such a thing.

Back then, he was thin-skinned and extremely proud, and he would never do anything that would make people overthink things.

"Mother is back. Mulan said she had to make noodles on her first day in the family so her in-laws could inspect them. She just finished making them."

Sanwa casually poured out the dirty water from the basin, got up, and put the wooden basin inside the house.

“I know without even looking that every girl in the village knows how to knead noodles.” Song Chunxue asked curiously, “What kind of noodles did you knead?”

"Buckwheat noodles, I want to eat buckwheat noodle dumplings."

Song Chunxue laughed out loud, "You don't actually think you're doing this for Mulan, do you?"

Sanwa scratched his head sheepishly, "I saw Mom kneading the buckwheat noodles very quickly."

"Yes, but you don't know that buckwheat flour is the hardest to knead. It has to be scalded with freshly boiled water to knead it into a ball. If the water cools down even a little, it will fall apart, just like starch. That's why buckwheat flour is used to make jelly, because there's a lot of buckwheat flour. You've given her a difficult problem."

As she spoke, Song Chunxue walked into the kitchen and saw a large, round flatbread on the cutting board, with a uniform thickness and few cracks on the sides.

Buckwheat noodles tend to crack easily when kneaded, and if you apply even a little too much pressure, they'll leave a dent.

She remembered Mulan from her previous life; she wasn't this capable when she first entered the family.

"Where did Mulan go?" Song Chunxue walked out of the courtyard. "She ate very well, but a lot. You should eat two more bowls tonight."

Sanwa blushed and nodded, then picked up his axe and went to the backyard to chop firewood.

"She's cleaning the donkey pen. She said she really likes our chestnut horse and is grooming it."

Song Chunxue was about to go to the backyard to take a look, but when she saw Sanwa grinning foolishly, she stopped.

When are you two planning to have children?

"Cough cough cough!" Sanwa stopped abruptly, his face flushed as he looked at Song Chunxue, his brows furrowed as he silently opened his mouth, "Mother!"

Song Chunxue found it amusing.

She waved.

"Getting married and having children is a perfectly normal thing. If you don't want her to have morning sickness right after she marries into the family, you can have it later. There's no rush. You can have it next year."

"If you don't know how..."

"Mother!" Sanwa stamped his foot in embarrassment and whispered through gritted teeth, "I...I'm not that stupid."

Song Chunxue smiled without saying a word, turned around, waved her hand, and went to the north room.

After sitting for a while, Sanwa came in from outside.

“I ordered a meal outside yesterday. I went to return the food box and plates and settled the bill. If my older brother comes, Mom will let him know, otherwise he will think I am avoiding him.”

"Okay, go ahead, I'll get you the money."

"I still have some."

Song Chunxue opened the box. "You don't have enough. Tomorrow you can take Mulan to stroll around the streets or go for a walk in the mountains. It will help strengthen your relationship."

Sanwa's face turned red again. "Mom just knows how to make fun of me."

He was wearing a beige long gown today, and he exuded an indescribable energy.

She didn't understand before, but now she secretly resents herself for being so sensitive to certain things.

Isn't this exactly the symptom of yin-yang replenishment? A rosy complexion and a vibrant spring-like appearance are the perfect description for a newlywed man.

As soon as Sanwa stepped into the courtyard, Song Chunxue heard the gate open and many people enter.

It was Hongying's family who brought their eldest son.

Song Chunxue could tell at a glance that her eldest brother wasn't happy, but she wouldn't be as harsh on him as she had been last time.

It's perfectly normal for a son to feel unhappy when his mother shows favoritism.

"Mom, I'm going with my brother-in-law to return the tables." The eldest son saw two more tables in the yard. "Brother-in-law, whose are these?"

He Chuan looked at Song Chunxue, seeking her opinion.

“No rush, sit down for a while,” Song Chunxue said to the eldest brother. “If you want to go out for a walk, go ahead. It’s not easy to come all this way, you don’t necessarily have to work.”

Hongying gave He Chuan a wink, and He Chuan understood.

“I’ll go with you guys,” Sanwa said with a smile to his eldest brother. “Big brother, I know where the fun places are.”

"Okay, let's go then."

“We want to go too,” Xiujuan said excitedly, moving towards the door. “I want to go shopping with my uncle.”

Xiao Long ran to his eldest brother, "Uncle, hug me!"

Xiao Xu smiled and walked towards the door, "Where did my little uncle go?"

“He went with his uncle,” Song Chunxue said with a smile. “It seems you all like your uncle.”
