Chapter 495 You're Wrong
"At a time like this, you still have the mind to joke around."
The Taoist priest shook his head helplessly.
He picked up a whisk from the side and said, "Well, since we're here, we'll have to meet sooner or later. Don't worry, if they hurt a single hair on your head, I'll change my surname from Zhang."
Song Chunxue gripped the Qiankun bag at her waist tightly. Her weapons were stored in it. Along the way, she had bought many swords, darts, and a pile of pebbles of various sizes, which she would use if she angered Song Chunxue.
She had previously speculated that her senior brother's hometown was some kind of deep, dangerous place, but now it seems it's far more terrifying than that.
"Bang bang bang!"
Just then, two people rushed in from outside and banged on the door.
"Open the door quickly! Old nun, come out now! Someone saw you here. If you know what's good for you, come out now, or you might be rewarded with a whole corpse!"
Before Song Chunxue could reply, the Taoist priest opened the door, stepped steadily across the threshold, tilted his head slightly, and asked, "What did you just say?"
"Where did this old Taoist priest come from?"
Just as one of them was about to curse, the other hurriedly tugged at his sleeve and tentatively asked, "Master Zhang?"
“Go tell your master that I’m back. The Taoist nun from earlier is my junior brother. If she doesn’t come here to apologize, I’ll sever our lineage tonight. Anyway, there’s not much left.”
The Taoist priest shouted in a powerful voice, "Hurry up and go!"
The two people at the door tumbled and scrambled down the stairs.
Song Chunxue followed her senior brother downstairs and saw the old man and his son. She stared at her senior brother in astonishment and glared at him fiercely.
The Taoist priest walked straight forward, while the father and son, with stiff smiles, retreated.
"Sixth...Sixth Uncle?"
"Sixth Brother, you're back. Why don't you go home? Staying at the inn is too formal. Third Uncle is waiting for you. He's dying and can't be delayed any longer."
The Taoist priest's father was the third son in his lineage and the most prestigious, because he was the most promising in his youth. He not only became very wealthy but also bought himself an official position and rose rapidly to a post in the capital.
Now retired and returning to his hometown, he was still thinking about his eldest son, whom he hadn't seen for over thirty years, on his deathbed.
The Taoist priest stopped, his eyes filled with a chilling aura that kept strangers at bay. "Zhang Yaoshun, I heard you wanted to kill my junior brother?"
Zhang Yaoshun, what a waste of such a beautiful name.
Song Chunxue met Zhang Yaoshun's gaze without flinching, her expression indifferent, a slight smirk playing on her lips, her provocation quite evident.
She knew that her senior brother had been angry and aggrieved all these years, but due to his self-cultivation and the fact that these were his own clansmen, he could not act decisively.
But the fact that her senior brought her here means he needs someone to ignite the flame and wants her to keep a low profile, which she can't do!
She rubbed her hands together, determined not to disappoint her senior brother.
"She...is Sixth Brother's junior brother?" Zhang Yaoshun's bloated neck looked like a fat worm from being squeezed by his collar. "Do you know how she just cursed us? Sixth Brother, could you have been deceived?"
The Taoist priest ignored him and led Song Chunxue straight ahead.
"If the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam will be crooked too. Over the years, relying on his protection, do you still have any humanity left?" he mocked contemptuously. "If it weren't for your rudeness, Junior Brother would never have wasted his breath on her. You caused her to curse someone, which is ruining her cultivation."
Song Chunxue looked down at her attire. If she had known her identity would be revealed so soon, why would she have bothered changing her clothes?
This body feels strangely uncomfortable; it will be a bit of a hindrance when we start fighting later.
She raised her chin, glanced at Zhang Yaoshun, and mouthed, "Old Japanese devil!"
"You, you, you..." Zhang Zhiheng pointed at Song Chunxue and complained to the Taoist priest, "Sixth Uncle, she called my father an old slut!"
"..."
"..."
The Taoist priest turned to look at Song Chunxue, "Do you two remember what you said to her?"
"I remember he said I was a prostitute, and that I deliberately dressed up as a Taoist priest to do that disgusting kind of business..."
"Smack!"
Before Song Chunxue could stir up enough trouble, her senior brother turned around and slapped the old slug's son across the face.
His expression was cold as he glanced at the father and son.
"Don't tarnish the old pumpkin; you're unworthy of being a father!"
The old pumpkin is delicious, while he's not even worth a pile of shit.
Seeing him turn and leave, Zhang Yaoshun slapped his son on the forehead, yelling, "Idiot!"
Song Chunxue followed behind her senior brother, her feet barely touching the ground, but she still had to jog a few steps to catch up.
She sensed that her senior brother was full of courage at that moment.
They walked along the street and came to a magnificent house.
She had never seen such exquisite carved beams and lintels in Jincheng.
The Taoist priest went straight up the steps, leaving the people at the door somewhat uncertain.
"You are..."
The Taoist priest said in a deep voice, "Isn't it just waiting for me to come back?"
The gatekeeper didn't dare to delay and opened the gate to welcome the person inside.
After passing through several doors and winding through long corridors, they arrived at a spacious and grand courtyard.
A row of maids stood outside the main house, heads bowed and backs bent, waiting quietly.
"The eldest young master is back."
The maids all looked up, craning their necks like geese, their gazes fixed on the Taoist priest as he stepped into the room.
Song Chunxue stood at the door, and if it weren't for the dying person inside, she would have found it hard to suppress her laughter.
As soon as she entered, she saw that the roof was gray and lifeless.
Looking around, this courtyard is quite old; it's probably where my senior brother was born.
The place exudes an air of extravagance. The clump of green bamboo on the east side is particularly eye-catching. Running water flows through the courtyard, and the rockery and small bridge were all designed with the guidance of a master. The feng shui layout is impeccable.
She came to the edge of the pool and saw that there were fish in it. To her surprise, steam was rising from the edge of the pool, and there was an exquisite iron box with burnt charcoal inside to keep the fish warm.
Luxury, truly luxury.
Behind the red gates, meat and wine go to waste, while on the road, frozen corpses lie. Outside the city gates, even beggars can't get a sip of hot soup, yet in this courtyard, even the fish can keep warm.
Soon, she saw the old man and his son arrive, and they went straight into the main house.
The house was noisy and chaotic. Many people, including men, women, and children, had been kicked out, and many were wiping away tears.
Song Chunxue sat down by the bridge and noticed that the group of people were all looking in her direction.
A maid ran towards her.
"The master invites you in."
Song Chunxue frowned. "Invite me? What did my senior brother say?"
The maidservant lowered her head. "He didn't say anything."
"Then I won't go in. I'm just the Taoist priest's junior brother, and I have nothing to say to your family."
The maid ran back to report.
Shortly afterward, mournful cries erupted from inside the house.
"Father, Father~"
"Third Uncle, Third Uncle~"
"Third Uncle, don't go!"
Each cry was more sorrowful than the last, until their voices were hoarse from shouting.
She saw the Taoist priest lift the curtain and step out of the room, only to be blocked by several men at the door, who seemed to be accusing him.
The Taoist priest shoved the man aside, and the man staggered a few steps and fell to the ground, pointing at him and cursing loudly.
"Who do you think you are? Now that Dad is dead, everything in this family is none of your business. What makes you think you can act so arrogantly?"
The Taoist priest stopped, chuckled softly, and turned to look at the person on the ground.
"You're wrong. He entrusted everything to me. Don't even think about taking a single thing in this yard. Whoever does will be in trouble."
As he spoke, the Taoist priest took out a talisman from his sleeve and scattered it in the air. He chanted a few incantations, and the talisman spontaneously combusted, its black ash gently falling to the ground.
"Zhang Chengxuan, don't forget that your mother's ashes are still in the Zhang family!"
