Chapter 68 I owe you family

Chapter 68 I owe you family

The funeral of Li Tangjia cast a dark shadow over the entire Lijiazhuang village.

Fortunately, the Li family was quite united and believed in keeping family scandals private. During the funeral, several respected elders took the opportunity during a meal to tell those present not to spread rumors outside.

Everyone was sensible; after all, the person was dead, but the one who committed the evil deeds was still alive, so he couldn't feel at ease either.

Li Dazui's son returned, and the whole family did their best to handle the funeral arrangements.

The third child's day off is over, and he still has to go to school. Although the eldest child can walk with crutches, his legs still hurt a bit, and he doesn't want to go and become the laughing stock of everyone.

The fourth son then became the Jiang family's representative and went along to help.

The sheep have no one to graze them, so they can't eat well standing in the pen. When they see people, they bleat incessantly.

The day they all went to the county, the eldest brother saw that there was no grass in the pen and threw away a bundle of corn stalks.

Today is the day of the Li family's funeral. They have to go carry the coffin early in the morning, so the fourth son has no time to look after the sheep.

Song Chunxue is usually busy with farm work, so she doesn't have to worry about the sheep, and she has forgotten to feed them hay.

Although the eldest brother didn't want to get involved, every time he went for a walk there and saw the sheep surrounding him begging for food, he would grab a bundle of wheat straw and throw it into the sheep pen.

Chen Feng came over and scolded her angrily, "You're so kind. These sheep have nothing to do with you, yet you still feed these animals grass."

Jiang Yeming frowned; these words sounded so harsh.

“No matter what, I am still the eldest son of the Jiang family. We have separated from the family, but we are not enemies. Even if we have no relation whatsoever, is it wrong for me to help my mother and brother throw away a bundle of grass?”

During the time he lay in bed, he felt angry, resentful, and complained, but on those sleepless nights, he thought about many things.

He put himself in his mother's shoes and considered why she was so disappointed in him. He also thought about his previous actions, which he hadn't thought would make his mother lose patience with him.

He's come to terms with it; he didn't deserve those two beatings.

Moreover, he asked himself why he had become so selfish after getting married, and why he listened to Chen Feng so much, doing whatever she said without thinking.

He had never done those petty thefts before, nor would he stoop to doing them.

Because he knew that all the good things in the house were for him, he didn't need to do that.

But later, at Chen Feng's urging, he climbed over the wall and pried open his mother's wooden box, even chopping it with an axe.

He seemed to be under a curse, as if he had lost his mind.

When they first got married, he wanted to pour his heart out to Chen Feng and do everything he could to be good to her, but there was nothing about her that particularly captivated him.

He didn't know why.

But now, hearing Chen Feng's every word so vicious, he cursed himself inwardly, thinking how stupid he was.

All that studying was for nothing.

Seeing Jiang Yeming like this, Chen Feng was furious.

"I'm heavily pregnant and you didn't even bother to give me an IV drip, all you did here was useless things, and you even yelled at me?" She stomped her foot angrily, "Don't you want to eat? If you do, hurry up and get me an IV drip!"

As if he had been given a royal decree, Jiang Yeming unconsciously lifted his foot and walked towards the water cellar.

He took two steps and then stopped.

"Chen Feng, I'll cook if you don't want to, but can you please stop talking like I owe you something from a past life? You're always yelling and cursing at me. Do you think I'm an animal?"

"You..." Chen Feng opened her mouth, seeing her boss calmly reasoning with her for the first time.

This bastard is usually quite obedient, why is he talking to me like this today?

Her mother had told her that if she put a talisman behind the door on her wedding night, her husband would obey her for the rest of his life.

It seems to be invalid now?

“You’re a woman, and everything you eat and drink in the Jiang family is earned by my mother. You don’t know how to be grateful, and you never say a kind word. How did your parents raise you?”

When Jiang Yeming calmed down, his expression was terrifyingly cold, and his slightly furrowed brows made people feel uneasy.

He said, enunciating each word clearly, "You'd better behave yourself. If you continue to act so recklessly, I don't mind hitting women."

After saying that, Jiang Yeming walked away, leaning on his cane.

Chen Feng gritted her teeth in anger, "This stubborn mule still wants to hit me? I'd like to see how a cripple can hit me! He's gone too far!"

She was plotting how to get Jiang Yeming to obey her tonight.

In the past, Song Chunxue was a kind-hearted person; she would help anyone in the village who needed help.

But this time, she not only didn't go, she didn't even show her face.

The Li family's funeral definitely required cooking and washing dishes. In the past, Song Chunxue would bring a rag and wash dishes for others without being asked.

Li Dazui couldn't help but be curious, so he pulled the fourth brother aside and asked, "Why didn't your mother come?"

The fourth brother was already unhappy, and upon hearing this, he angrily shook off his hand.

"Why should my mother come? We're not related. Does she want me to come and work for free? Last time, on the ninth anniversary of my father's death, no one came to pay their respects. My mother isn't stupid."

He used to be silly, but now he's suddenly not silly anymore, and he's actually quite shrewd, keeping him completely under his thumb.

He could have stayed in school until he was eighteen and then ventured out into the world.

Now, even if he's unwilling a thousand times, his mother has ways to make him obediently do as she says.

He used to be furious when his mother was always so kind and helpful, and he was so angry at her for not standing up for herself.

Now that his mother has suddenly become smarter, the fourth son feels very proud.

He looked coldly at Li Dazui, "The first day my brother and I came to help, we came on behalf of the Jiang family. Although Sanwa and I are young, we are still considered people from the village."

"You invited the people from the manor to dinner, but no one invited us brothers. Not a single one. Do you look down on us or are you just too lazy to offer us a meal?" the fourth brother said angrily. "Since you don't treat us like human beings, why should you order us around? My mother isn't a maid of your Li family. Does she owe you anything?"

"You..." Li Dazui was speechless for a moment. "You're so sharp-tongued. When entertaining guests, do people in the village have to invite them to sit down and eat? Why don't they just sit down and eat?"

"Hmph," the fourth brother sneered, "You made me go to the funeral parlor to get ice water, and had Sanwa go outside to give you IV drips. Is this how people from the village should do things?"

"By the time we came out to eat, you had already washed the pots and pans, what were we supposed to eat?" The fourth brother got angrier and angrier, throwing down the stool in his hand. "I'm done for! Do you really think the Jiang family are worthless and can be bossed around by you?"

He pointed at Li Dazui and said, "If you ever speak ill of my mother again, I'll tear your mouth off!"

After saying that, the fourth brother kicked the stool and turned to leave.

Now that the person has been buried, the villagers are staying behind to clean up their belongings.

These past few days, because of his youth, the fourth brother has been ordered around by the adults in the village and has done quite a bit of work.

He had absolutely no desire to do this final cleanup.

In the afternoon, he drove the sheep up the mountain and saw that the "stinky old man" on the mountain was tall and big. So he pulled up a bundle of them, tied them up with the rope on the sheep shovel, dragged them home, dried them, and used them as firewood for cooking.

As the sheep returned to their pen, he dusted himself off, feeling completely relaxed.

As soon as he entered the courtyard, he saw Li Dazui talking to his mother.

"Fourth brother, people say you stormed off in a rage, what exactly happened?"
