Chapter 977 Master Han
Why?
Why.
Sanwa's words were like a thunderclap, exploding in his mind.
How could anyone ask such a question?
When his gaze fell on the glistening tears sliding down Sanwa's cheeks, and the next moment when Sanwa leaned in and gently hugged his knees, the lie that had just taken shape in his mind crumbled.
The city walls that he had always thought were impregnable were now unrecognizable, and in an instant, he felt a salty taste rise in his throat.
This child actually made him want to cry.
After a while, he raised his dry palm and gently patted the back of Sanwa's head.
He looked up at the sky and chuckled softly, "Silly child, there's no reason why. If you truly consider me family, I can come to see you often in the future."
"I forgot to tell you, now your mother and I are from the same school, so I am her rightful senior brother. I am the seventh in line and she is the eighth, which is a rare fate."
"I am an ordinary person, born unable to hold onto anything, whether it be money, fame, or family and friends. It seems that those passersby I thought I would only meet briefly and never see again in this life actually make me feel warmer."
"There are many kinds of emotions in this world. People who are destined to be together don't necessarily have to become family. In my opinion, the world's understanding of family is too narrow..."
Sanwa raised his hand and slapped the Taoist priest's leg hard. "Taoist priest, that's all empty talk. I can talk about grand principles too."
He helped the Taoist priest sit up, his eyes red, leaning against his arm, his voice trembling with barely perceptible sobs.
"Can't you just tell the truth?" Sanwa grabbed the wine jar next to him and gulped down several mouthfuls. "I can't hold my liquor, I'll forget it as soon as I tell you. Daoist, just tell me the truth, I promise I will never... tell anyone... okay?"
Zhang Chengxuan was quite helpless; this was the first time he had encountered such a situation.
Putting everything else aside, this child really likes him.
"It's all in the past now. I can tell you quietly. Come closer."
Sanwa looked up happily and leaned his ear closer, "Tell me quickly."
Zhang Chengxuan had a smile on his face, but hesitated to speak.
"I……"
"Thump!" Sanwa was drunk and bumped his forehead on the table leg.
"..." After a moment of stunned silence, a helpless smile appeared on Zhang Chengxuan's face, which then turned into a relieved one.
There was even some joy.
He was very happy that Sanwa could do this.
This is not a question that needs to be asked. He has even taken life and death lightly, let alone anything else.
...
In order to prevent Sanwa from coming down the mountain too late, Song Chunxue got up very early.
She met Mulan's mother at the kitchen door.
The two women smiled at each other. As mothers, they both wanted their children to eat and drink well before going down the mountain.
They all breathed a sigh of relief after learning that someone had already gone down the mountain to ask for leave on behalf of Sanwa.
Xia's mother prepared the dough last night, intending to make steamed buns, so Song Chunxue washed her hands and helped.
Before long, Xia Mulan got up, while the three children were still asleep.
She asked where the third child slept last night.
"Huh?" Song Chunxue wiped herself on her apron and turned to leave. "This child, he probably slept at his senior brother's place."
She had just reached the door when she saw her senior brother come out from inside.
"What's all the rush? Your son is in my room. He can't hold his liquor but he still tried to drink with me. He's drunk." He walked leisurely down the steps, his crisp, moon-white clothes making him look quite well.
“It was already late when he came to see me, and after everyone went to sleep, I didn’t take him home. Was his wife worried?” He looked up and took two deep breaths of fresh air. “He’s a good drinker; he didn’t even turn over once and slept soundly. I’ll go in in a bit.”
After listening to his detailed explanation, Song Chunxue immediately felt much more at ease.
"What were you talking about? You were so secretive. Sanwa rarely gets drunk; he's always been very restrained." Song Chunxue turned and walked out, not expecting to hear his answer. "I'm going to make steamed buns. Wash your face and come eat."
Master Zhang nodded, "I'll go practice my sword for a while, don't rush me."
"No need to rush me, I knew you were lazy, you never even get to eat something hot."
"Junior brother, you..." Master Zhang said helplessly, "For the sake of your son."
If she hadn't been in such a hurry to make dumplings, Song Chunxue would have argued with him a couple of times.
She hurried to the kitchen with small, quick steps, thinking that Baozi was determined to prove herself and shouldn't be flattened.
When Master Zhang arrived outside the courtyard, he found that in the short time he had been gone, stone steps and a pavilion had been built on the hillside outside.
No one but the Zhao family would do something so lucrative.
He climbed the steps, and at the end of the path was an exquisite and clean stone cave. Wasn't this the place where he had previously secluded himself for cultivation?
It's been a few months since I last visited, how come it's changed so much?
Not only were new houses built, but the open space outside was paved with blue bricks, and there were also stone tables and benches, and a beautiful railing.
More importantly, people still live here.
Sure enough, my third uncle was inside.
Big White and Little White have also found a soft new home here.
He lifted the beaded curtain and heard voices inside.
My uncle and Master Han were drinking tea and playing chess, and the light from outside shone on them, making them seem otherworldly.
"Uncle-Master, you have such refined tastes. I hardly recognize this place anymore." Zhang Chengxuan looked around. "The Zhao family really knows how to get things done; they're so fast."
His uncle glanced up at him and asked, "Was the wine bitter last night?"
"Huh?" He was taken aback, then couldn't help but chuckle. "My martial uncle is even teasing me now."
"Unfortunately, we were just on our way to find you for drinks and moon-gazing when that kid asked you a question," the uncle said, placing a chess piece on the table. "It really saddened this old man. If you had accepted me as your master back then..."
After a moment of silence, he changed his words, "Forget it, there's no point in dwelling on the past. Now that you've become the disciple of the Moon-Accompanying Immortal, I'm overjoyed for you. Come and sit down."
How did someone else hear this? Zhang Chengxuan looked down at his toes. He had just changed these shoes today; they were prepared for him by his junior brother last year, and he hadn't worn them yet.
What's there to be upset about? Actually, they all know that even if they had known things would turn out this way, they wouldn't have made that choice back then.
Besides, he is Master Zhang, how could he be immersed in love and romance? He is a person without desires and wants, a passerby in the human world. He has seen so many sights, met so many people, and helped so many people in their time of need. How could he have gained so much merit for nothing?
Life is full of disappointments, but he feels quite content now.
Master Han looked up at him and nodded, "If I had been like you earlier, your master wouldn't have rejected me back then."
Zhang Chengxuan picked up the teapot and poured himself a cup of tea, then said in a serious tone, "How about we go see Master together, you..."
"Dream on," Master Han snorted irritably. "You all want to be my senior brother. Don't forget, I'm of the same generation as your senior uncle's senior uncle. According to seniority, you should call me grandmaster."
That's true, after all, she's getting on in years.
Master Zhang took a sip of tea. "Then, Grandmaster Han, where is my senior brother? Why can't we find him?"
They both turned their heads at the same time.
"Haha, you're quite the player, kid." Third Uncle placed a piece. "Senior is too kind. You can't win a game if you're not calm."
P.S.: Why aren't you guys commenting? I've lost all my inspiration.
I went to the countryside to rest for a bit, so please forgive the recent lack of updates. My new book is about to be released. But I will still add extra chapters to this book from time to time. (I can't make promises I can't keep.) One chapter today, consider it a day off, okay?
