Chapter 676 Envious of the Snake
This was the first time Song Chunxue had experienced a tingling sensation on her scalp and a chill throughout her body on a June afternoon.
She almost thought her head had been bitten off by the python in front of her.
She soon realized she had entered a fantasy.
Although she had experienced being trapped in a maze of ghosts when she was a child, the person in front of her was Master Han, a Taoist disciple who had been taught by someone, and these tricks were easy for him to perform.
Song Chunxue gripped the armrest of the chair tightly, trying her best to remain calm.
Everything around her was shrouded in mist. Before her stood a python as tall as a three-story building, its forked tongue flicking as it approached her.
Song Chunxue didn't close her eyes, as that would only make her more terrified, because she didn't know when she would be ambushed.
But in her heart, she cursed, "That bastard Han Daoist! Sure enough, her worries were right. The things this person cultivates are very evil, just like his unfathomable eyes."
It was a face that was expressionless, but being stared at by those eyes inexplicably made one feel afraid, as if falling into an ice cellar.
"Are you out of your mind, trying to show off that you're more capable than me?"
Song Chunxue mustered her courage and retorted, "I'm just a rogue cultivator who's doing random cultivation. Why are you arguing with me? Is it fun to test me? Using a python to scare people, why don't you just bury me in silver?"
Master Han's voice was hollow and distant, resounding above Song Chunxue's head.
"Are you getting angry? Don't you pride yourself on having lived two lives? You can't even handle this little bit of fright?"
"I don't believe you're not afraid of snakes. If you admit now that you're still afraid of me and admit defeat, I'll let you go."
"Why?" Song Chunxue sneered. "Just because I was luckier than you and got the golden spoon you wanted most?"
"Bullshit! I'm not that kind of person. What's so great about a golden spoon? If I hadn't already become a disciple of my master and entered the White Cloud Temple for quiet cultivation, would it have been your turn?"
"Oh~" Song Chunxue suddenly realized, "You guessed it! I was wondering why you were always staring at me. You were jealous of me, just like He Xiu. No wonder you two are from the same sect, you two are quite alike..."
"Don't say I look like that idiot He Xiu. He's not that old, but his beard is whiter than mine. How do we look alike?"
"..." Hearing his angry voice, Song Chunxue suddenly seemed to understand something.
This Master Han sounds a bit off.
He's like a child and an old man at the same time. He speaks in a childlike tone one moment and as if he sees through her the next, and knows that she has lived once before... as well as the phrase "original body" that his senior brother mentioned.
Is his true form a python?
Is he...is he really a snake demon?
Song Chunxue didn't know whether she should be scared or amused at this moment.
I was both amused and exasperated.
She was troubled by a snake?
"Speak up, how are we alike?"
The enormous python in front of her brought its head, as big as a sieve, close to her face and said through gritted teeth, "Otherwise, I'll swallow you."
"You don't look alike at all. You're much younger than him. You're clearly a snake, yet you have a pair of amorous peach blossom eyes. You look mature, but you're actually very serious. You two don't look alike at all."
Song Chunxue commented without much emotion, "You are much more capable than He Xiu. He is just a mortal. How could he be as powerful as you?"
"..." At this moment, it was Master Han's turn to remain silent.
Suddenly, the surrounding fog and bizarre shadows dissipated, and Song Chunxue saw that she was still sitting in the same chair, with Master Han looking at her sinisterly across from her.
The chill and fear from before dissipated, and looking at that enigmatic face again, all the mystery vanished.
Song Chunxue bit the inside of her lip, trying not to laugh.
So he was a snake. No wonder he acted differently from ordinary people, making her think she was being targeted by something terrible.
"So you're a snake, oh my god, my apologies." She nodded to him with a smile.
"..." Master Han seemed to be brewing something, wanting to say it but unable to, and stared at her angrily.
He must be a little angry that Song Chunxue wasn't afraid of him.
"All things have a spirit. I was very afraid of snakes at first, but everyone says that snakes are very spiritual. When I was a child, I heard many stories from the elders, and I was no longer afraid of snakes."
She explained patiently, "But I never thought I would see a snake that has cultivated into human form in my lifetime. It's a life well-lived. You are very powerful, more powerful than humans. After all, it is more difficult for humans to cultivate."
Master Han was staring at her, but he didn't say anything.
Song Chunxue picked up the teapot and poured herself some tea. No wonder Master Han didn't feel hot at all sitting in front of the small stove with charcoal.
Snakes are not afraid of heat.
"So how old are you this year? You look so young! What's your secret to cultivation? Could you teach me?"
"By the way, you and Senior Brother are so close, when did you two meet? Could he be one of your kind?"
Master Han flicked his snake chain at her, saying, "I'm very unhappy right now. Let's go outside and have a fight, or I might try to kill you."
Song Chunxue took a slice of watermelon and took a bite. "It's so hot outside. Let's wait until the sun goes down before we fight. I'm not as good as you anyway."
"No, I can't wait, I'm going out to fight now."
His snake-bone chain was almost poking Song Chunxue's eyes.
"That's where you're wrong. You're making things difficult for me. Why should I fight you just because you say so?"
She said irritably, "One cup of tea costs one silver ingot."
"Thump!"
A heavy money bag was tossed onto the table. "One hour!"
Song Chunxue picked up the money bag, opened it, and lo and behold, it was gold.
"Getting on track."
As they spoke, they had already jumped onto the open space opposite the waterside pavilion. The beautiful pebbles were laid flat and neatly, and the surface was swept clean, with only a few scattered leaves.
Wuyou had already rushed out and collided with the flexible snake bone chain, sparks flying everywhere.
Song Chunxue stood aside, enjoying the peace and quiet, holding an uncut half of a melon in her hand, and using a spoon from her Qiankun bag to scoop out and eat it.
"Don't worry, play well. If you want anything later, I'll buy it for you."
Wuyou flew over in a flash and cut off a few strands of her hair.
"That won't do! If I want my hair, won't I become a bald old woman in no time?" Song Chunxue said in a panic, covering her scalp. "How about I give you the hair that falls out every day?"
Wuyou flew around her once, and the next moment it "bang bang bang" met the snake bone chain, indicating its agreement.
Hearing the noise, Xie Zheng, who was sitting inside, couldn't help but stand up and ask with concern, "Will she be alright?"
"No, it's Master Han who's in trouble. He's been feeling resentful these past few days. Let him have a fight and he'll be fine." Lord Zhao placed a black piece. "Focus, you're about to lose, Brother Xie. Master Han wouldn't dare bully my junior brother."
Xie Zheng then sat down with relief, but couldn't help asking, "Why is Master Han so uneasy? Is he trustworthy or not?"
Lord Zhao placed another piece. "He is trustworthy. Although he has a bit of a temper, he is not a bad person at heart and has moral principles. As for his imbalance, he is probably jealous and envious. He went to Mount Kongtong to seek a master, but was rejected."
