Meng Qi looked at the carriage that Dong Hai pushed open and saw Song Chengze looking at her with an expression that didn't show his emotion. She was really surprised.
"Why did the prince come here in person?" Meng Qi took Yuan Yue's hand and got into the car with just the right smile on her face.
Song Chengze hummed, "I have to go out later, so I'll just take you back home first."
Meng Qi sat upright. For a moment, there was some awkwardness in the carriage. Meng Qi's mind was full of the situation of Meng Zhi that she and Meng Wan had talked about when they returned to Qinyuan. She had a hunch that this Meng Zhi was extraordinary, but the two of them really had no chance of contact.
"Is it lively today?" Song Chengze asked.
"It's okay. It's just a family meal, with grandparents here, so it can't be too extravagant. And my mom isn't one for crowds. She has a bad heart, and the doctor said she can't stand a lot of noise."
Song Chengze nodded. "Since the Crown Prince's wife likes quietness, why don't you take her to Maoshan when summer comes? I have a manor there, built on the mountainside, with clear springs and fresh air. It's the perfect place for quiet recuperation."
Meng Qi was surprised, but smiled, "Oh? I didn't know the prince had such a nice place."
Song Chengze curled his lips slightly, "Not many people know about it, and it wasn't purchased in my name. Only a few people who look after the manor know about it. If you go there later, just ask Hu Changsheng to arrange for someone to clean it up in advance."
Meng Qi felt a small glimmer of joy in her heart. Zhuangzi, who was not well-informed, had told her about this and even asked her to bring her mother with her. It seemed that her importance in Song Chengze's heart was growing. This was really a good start. Her efforts in marrying him for more than four months had finally paid off.
"Thank you, Your Highness. My mother will be very happy to hear that. Also, she likes the birthday present you gave her today very much. I originally wanted to take it out in front of everyone, but my mother said that there was no need to let everyone know. Some joy and happiness can be enjoyed by oneself." Meng Qi's tone was cheerful.
Song Chengze had no idea that Wang Shi had such foresight. He nodded and said, "As long as the Crown Prince's wife likes it, I'll pay more attention to it in the future."
Meng Qi was happy and thought to herself, I should get more for my mother and it will be given to me in the future.
"The guy you mentioned last time, Wu Zhengda..."
When Meng Qi heard Song Chengze say this, she put away the smile on her face and asked seriously, "What did the prince find out?"
"He hasn't returned yet, but the letter has come back." Song Chengze looked at her intently, "I'm afraid it's really as you said, there's something else going on between him and Meng Hai."
"Is it available?" Meng Qi asked softly.
Song Chengze nodded first, then shook his head. "We'll talk about the details after the people who came back to investigate. I heard Meng Hai was very kind to him, so we need to think carefully about whether we can use him and how to use him. I just think that your third cousin was instigated by Meng Hai and his men in the incident where you fell into the ice. They're not just targeting you, I'm afraid they want to find something to hold against your third cousin as well."
Meng Qi was puzzled at first, then frowned and thought for a while before saying, "Could it be that Uncle San was targeting Meng Xiu from the beginning? He had this plan long ago to win over Wu Zhengda. And Aunt San and Meng Juan are just using my situation to lure Meng Xiu into it. If Meng Xiu really knows the truth about Wu Zhengda and refuses to marry, they can use my disappearance to threaten her?"
Song Chengze nodded. "This is what I think. We have to wait until the people who come to investigate come back to see if Wu Zhengda's character is really bad. We can't let your third cousin marry the wrong person because of Meng Hai's selfishness."
Meng Qi looked at Song Chengze's calm face, and she suddenly understood what he meant. "I understand. If Wu Zhengda can be trusted, I will definitely let my third cousin know my uncle's original intention. If Wu Zhengda is not a good man, I will definitely support my third cousin in making a fuss and ruining this marriage."
Song Chengze raised his eyebrows slightly. This little girl was so smart. She grasped the key points with just a few words from him, without him having to think about anything else.
Meng Hai is now stepping on two boats, holding an oar in his hand. No one knows what his real purpose is and which side he is leaning towards.
But as long as he kept those two secret meetings with Prince Duan, he couldn't let Meng Hai get what he wanted. He didn't have the energy or ability to investigate Prince Cheng and Prince Jing's plans. But since he had already decided to take action against Prince Duan, he would never allow him to gain any advantage from Meng Hai.
Since it was difficult to investigate from the outside, it would be better to disintegrate from within. Although the news that came back was only a few words, Song Chengze had a vague feeling that Wu Zhengda was someone he could win over and use for his own purposes. After all, the fat piece of meat in the northwest was indeed tempting.
"You really impressed me." Song Chengze said.
Meng Qi tilted her head and gave a playful smile. "I told you that you won't regret your promise to me. And if I plan well, I might be able to give you a great gift in the future."
"Oh?" Song Chengze smiled faintly, "Then I'll wait and see."
After Song Chengze sent Meng Qi to Prince Rui's Mansion, he went directly towards the imperial palace.
Yuandong helped Meng Qi wash and change her clothes, while Suxin brought a small bowl of wontons and a few side dishes.
"You are thoughtful and know that I am hungry." Meng Qi sat down at the table, picked up the soup spoon and took a sip of the soup. The soup was so delicious that her eyebrows curved.
"Who made this soup today? It tastes really good. Prepare some later. If the prince returns to Bibo Hall tonight, I will send him a bowl."
Su Xin smiled and said, "She was hung up all afternoon. It was the Hong Jin family who endured it. The servant even said that she was worthy of having served in the small kitchen of two former princesses."
Meng Qi nodded. Compared to Hu Erjia, this Hong Jinjia was more reserved, quiet, not lazy, and reliable. Since being transferred to Jing'an Garden, Hu Erjia had told Madam Liu everything she knew about her past at the palace, including her grudge with Madam Hai.
