However, before Meng Qi could figure out how to arrange Song Baimo's housewarming party, she received an invitation from Prince Cheng's Mansion. Princess Cheng was going to celebrate her birthday, and the day after Princess Cheng's birthday was the day Meng Wan was getting married.
In the Bibo Hall, Song Chengze looked at Meng Qi, who was holding the invitation, and said softly, "Since Brother Mo's move date has been chosen, why not let Lin take care of it? As for the banquet, you can hold it whenever you are free. After all, Prince Cheng's visit is more important."
This was what Meng Qi meant. "How did you do it?" Meng Qi sat down with admiration on her face. This was her second time coming to Bi Bo Tang, but her first time coming to the main room of Song Chengze's inner study.
Bibo Hall, built in the southwest corner of the inner courtyard, is the highest point in the mansion. The entrance alone requires climbing five or six steps. It occupies a vast area, more like a private residence than a single room, with an outer courtyard, an inner courtyard, a garden, and a pond. A separate gate leads directly to the main street at the side entrance.
Meng Qi didn't pay much attention to Bibo Hall. This was all told to her by Wang Chenghai yesterday. Now that she thought about it, sometimes Song Chengze was not in the outer courtyard, but he didn't return to the inner house either. But the next day he appeared in the school training ground. She was afraid that he went in and out directly from the outer gate of Bibo Hall.
The main building of Bi Bo Tang spanned two floors, with five rooms downstairs and an upper floor filled with books. Meng Qi had no idea what the other rooms were decorated or used for. The room she was currently in was exceptionally elegant. Summer had arrived, and at dusk, the open back window faced the Bi Bo Tang garden pond, where unknown birds drank. A wooden bridge connected the two banks. The willow trees by the pond swayed gently in the breeze, creating a picturesque scene against the setting sun.
Song Chengze didn't say anything after hearing Meng Qi's question. He poured the tea and looked up, and saw that Meng Qi had walked to the back window and was staring at the scenery outside in a daze.
Song Chengze walked over, teacup in hand. They stood side by side in front of the window. Inside the small window frame, Song Chengze was dressed in an indigo gown, his hair tied in a half-bun, the rest draped over his shoulders. The breeze blew, gently ruffling his hair and bringing with it the scent of hay. His handsome eyes gazed at the low-flying birds in the pond, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Meng Qi wore a sky-blue silk jacket with a moon-white long skirt. Her jet-black hair was tied into a bun at the back of her head, and she wore a coral and turquoise pearl flower. The sunset glow in the sky fell on her, outlining a light golden outline, and her facial features looked more delicate than usual.
The two of them stood by the window, as beautiful as a painting.
Suddenly, the bird, perhaps frightened or something, flew up with a whoosh. The birds in the surrounding bushes seemed to be awakened and flew out in a flock, flapping their wings.
Meng Qi exclaimed, stretched out her hand and pointed, "Look, it's the one leading the way. Do all these people obey its orders?" There was joy and surprise in her voice, and her right hand unconsciously pulled Song Chengze's sleeve.
Song Chengze turned to look at her, the light and shadow cast her thick eyelashes under her eyes, and her clear eyes were completely lively and playful, completely different from usual. Her slightly parted red lips revealed her snow-white teeth, so fresh and full of vitality.
Song Chengze felt as if his chest was filled with something, swollen and warm. He lowered his head and looked at Meng Qi's delicate white hands, which were tugging at his sleeve. Her fingernails were unpainted, a healthy red, and she wore no jewelry, a clean and comfortable feeling.
After Meng Qi finished speaking, she didn't hear any response from the person next to her, and she pulled hard with her hand again, "Is it the one leading the way? I think it looks like it, you see..." Meng Qi turned her head and saw Song Chengze looking at her with a smile.
It seemed as if one could see another self in his black gemstone-like eyes. Meng Qi was not short, and was slightly taller than Meng Juan and Meng Xiu. Song Chengze was of average height among men. The two of them standing there were surprisingly harmonious.
Meng Qi fell into Song Chengze's eyes for a moment and was distracted for a moment. She had never seen eyes more beautiful and profound than Song Chengze's in her past and present life. If she was not careful, she would be dragged into them and unable to extricate herself.
Meng Qi felt her face suddenly turn red, and she felt inexplicably oppressive in the air. She quickly turned her head, took out a handkerchief and fanned her cheeks. She seemed to feel something was wrong, so she put her hands down and climbed up the window frame with both hands, scratching it hard until she felt her nails were about to dig into it.
Song Chengze also came back to his senses from his momentary distraction. He raised his head to look at the horizon and couldn't help laughing at himself. What happened? It seemed like he had scared the little girl.
"Those are wild ducks. They nest here every year and are regular visitors to this pond. No, they're the masters. When the pond is low on water, Hu Changsheng has to worry about finding food for them. I didn't see the one you just mentioned clearly, but there must be a big one among them. Someone in the yard will definitely recognize it. I'll point it out to you one day and see if you're right."
Meng Qi exhaled, adjusted her mood, and felt much calmer. She said dryly, "Well, okay." After thinking about it, she felt that her answer was too perfunctory, so she said casually, "I have seen wild ducks, but they were just hatched and fluffy." Then, Meng Qi told her about the nest of wild ducks that the maid had caught to please her when she went to the West Mansion.
After listening to this, Song Chengze smiled softly, "So you like these things."
Meng Qi hummed, "I've never liked gold hairpins and silver jewelry, and I especially don't like colorful clothes. I just like new and innovative things, whether they grow in the mountains, in the fields, or by the roadside. I like everything that's alive. The pheasants in my yard, the turtles in the fish tank, and the birds under the porch were all found by my third brother. My second sister said I should have been born into a farming family, where I could just open the door and run around, covered in mud and dirt, but still be happy."
