Chapter 128: Great Gains (Part 2)

Inside Jinmo Residence, Roland lowered the bed curtains, turned around, looked at Li who was sitting at the desk, and whispered, "Isn't the concubine going to rest yet?"

Li rubbed his forehead and asked, "Have you heard any news?"

"No, except for what I told you this evening. Mother Jin even sent the little girl to look around the mansion, especially around Jing'an Garden and the west side courtyard, but there wasn't much new news."

"Have you made all the arrangements before Mother Jin goes back?"

Like everyone else, Mrs. Jin, the housekeeper of the Li family compound, would go back to her home in the back street at night unless there was something special going on.

"Yes, Mother Jin said she knows what's going on and will ask her grandson to go there tomorrow."

Li nodded, genuinely unsure of the reason the prince had confined Meng Qi. She must have gotten into trouble at Prince Cheng's residence, bringing shame upon the prince. However, this mishap couldn't have caused any damage or impact on the palace. Otherwise, someone would have arrived, or the prince would have arranged for someone to return upon his return. If it wasn't what she imagined, what could it be?

Roland was tidying up the clutter on the desk. "Don't worry about it. Since the princess has been confined by the prince, you don't have to get up early to pay your respects tomorrow. Oh, it's hard for the prince, cleaning up the princess's mess every few days."

"The prince is indeed supporting her, so he has to stand up for himself. But this confinement is really strange."

"Oh? What do you mean?" Roland flicked the oil wick.

"Think about it, if it was a minor offense, why would the prince confine the princess on the first day of the second daughter of the Huainan Marquis's marriage? Or if it was a serious offense, the prince confined the princess, only saying that she could not leave the Second Gate, but not that she could not leave Jing'an Garden. How can this be called confinement? On weekdays, as long as the princess is not entering the palace, she stays within the Second Gate. Aside from the last time she got drunk and attended the eldest young master's housewarming party, the princess has only been to the outer courtyard twice."

Roland hadn't thought of this. "Yeah, what exactly is it? You don't have to worry. Just think that the news will definitely get back to us, and then we can make plans for the next step."

Li nodded. Without finding the reason, she would not act rashly. "You can make arrangements tomorrow. The day after tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, I want to see him. I have to find out everything."

Roland responded, "Maybe I see him too often? He's also a slippery one."

"There's no other way. We're in the inner house. It's too difficult to go out once. It's impossible without going through him. Let's meet first."

Li watched Luo Lan walk out, blew out the candle, and walked to the window, looking out through the gauze. The moonlight was beautiful today, filling the small courtyard with moonlight, reminding her of when she had just been transferred to the prince's side in the palace.

When she first met the young man with a gentle smile, she was determined to stay by his side, especially because she had served him attentively and without any second thoughts. When the time came to choose a palace maid to warm the prince's bed, Concubine Lian chose her.

She still remembered that night, when she was held in the arms of that young man, the peace and excitement, the ecstasy and happiness...

Li closed his eyes tightly. Everything was irreversible. One thought can make you a Buddha or a devil. It was fate that played tricks on you.

------

In Yinyan Pavilion, Wu yawned, "Tell the nurse to stay awake at night. If I see her dozing off, be careful of her."

Jinzhi patted Wu's shoulders and said, "Don't worry. Although the doctor said it's okay, the eldest lady is our lifeblood. They know the severity of the situation."

"Have you received the letter from the prince?"

"Alright, I've personally spoken to Eunuch Zhang. The prince went to Prince Cheng's mansion first, and then got angry with the princess when he came back. He went out again in the evening. I'm afraid he won't have time to visit the young lady today."

"He went out again? Could it be that he went to Prince Cheng's mansion to apologize?" There was a gloating tone in Mrs. Wu's voice.

Jinzhi also laughed and said, "No way, that would be such a big disaster that we can't even wait until tomorrow."

"Well, every time she does that, she causes us to lose our eyes. We just watch the fun."

"I noticed that the princess was unhappy because Concubine Lin brought the eldest young master back to the Lin family today. Could this be her excuse?"

"That shouldn't happen at Prince Cheng's house. There must be other reasons. Never mind. It's none of our business."

Jinzhi smiled and said, "Yes, your response now is the best. You can get benefits by saying a few nice words. Whatever happens to her has nothing to do with us. And because of your deliberate actions, the princess has no intention of paying attention to us, so she just lets Concubine Lin take the lead."

Mrs. Wu smiled slightly. "That's exactly what's going on. Why didn't I think about it so much before? Madam Zhang must be quite capable."

Jinzhi heard her mention Ms. Zhang, thought for a moment, and said carefully, "After the last incident, the princess didn't assign Ms. Zhang any work at all, and brought Ms. Li with her twice in a row. If you continue to be so close to Ms. Zhang, will you..."

"What are you afraid of? Besides, it's not that Ms. Zhang doesn't want to do it, it's that she refuses to assign it. And Ms. Zhang told us about what happened in the palace last time. It wasn't her fault, it was just that the princess used her as a punching bag. We can't live without her now. Look at the advice she's given us recently. Every time we haven't benefited, we've gotten good things and money. Besides, if the princess was unhappy with my close relationship with Ms. Zhang, she would have punished me long ago."

Seeing Wu's indifferent expression, Jinzhi wisely chose not to continue the conversation. "Are you going to tell the prince about the young lady's matter?"

"Speak up, of course I have to. Everyone knows that our eldest daughter is on good terms with Princess Aihua. It's such an honor-making thing. If Ms. Zhang hadn't reminded me, I wouldn't have thought of it."
