Chapter 146: Revenge (Part 2)

That night, the palace maids and eunuchs in the main hall looked at Fanghua and Mengqi who came in early with puzzled expressions. Nanny Sang looked up at the clepsydra. It was still fifteen minutes past midnight. Why did these two come so early today?

"Princess, Princess, you're up so early today." Nanny Sang came up to them with a smile.

Fanghua let Qinxiang untie the belt of her cloak, "Where are the second and fourth sisters-in-law?"

"In the inner room, I'm serving the Empress medicine. Would you two like to sit for a moment?"

"Don't worry. When I took over two days ago, my second sister-in-law said more than once that everything had been taken care of early on, and the queen was also fast asleep, so we didn't have to worry about anything. It was as if we just changed the place where we slept." Meng Qi said disdainfully.

"Who said it wasn't? When the emperor asks later, how the Empress is taking the medicine? How many hours can she sleep peacefully? How many times has she tossed and turned? We won't be able to answer. What we know is that the two sisters-in-law did the work well in the first half of the night. Those who don't know will think we are lazy." Fanghua said dissatisfiedly.

The two of them singing the same tune left Madam Sang and Eunuch Wang, who had just heard the news, puzzled. Weren't they supposed to have argued yesterday and not spoken to each other all day? Why were they now breathing heavily?

"Oh, who can say that? These past few nights, others may not know, but I have seen it clearly. You two are truly filial to the Empress." Nanny Sang smiled and stepped forward to lift the curtain of the east room for Fanghua.

Fanghua said as she walked, "What's the point of you seeing it? Even if you see it, why don't you tell everyone in the palace about it?" After saying that, she turned aside and went in first.

Nanny Sang had a half-smile on her face. Meng Qi followed behind her, glanced at Nanny Sang, snorted coldly, and passed by.

Eunuch Wang looked at the two people who entered the east room and asked, "What happened? Did anyone say anything?"

Nanny Sang gritted her teeth. "It must be him. I don't know who's so talkative, gossiping in front of these two troublesome people. If I find out who it is, she'll be in trouble. Go back and ask your apprentice to check if there's anyone who's been frequenting the West Side Hall these days."

Eunuch Wang nodded and winked at the young eunuch beside him.

"I was wondering why it was so lively outside. It turns out you're here." Princess Jing smiled as she sat on the edge of the bed.

Meng Qi and Fang Hua greeted everyone. The Queen was half leaning on a soft pillow, and Princess Duan was holding a handkerchief and gently wiping the medicine from the corner of her mouth.

Seeing this, Meng Qi hurriedly took two steps, took the white porcelain plate from the palace maid's hand, and handed her a plate of candied fruit.

The Queen shook her head and said softly, "I've drunk so much, I don't need this anymore. If you ask me, you don't have to come. I'm already well. You two can sit for a while, then go back with them."

His voice was low and weak, like that of a seriously ill person, and he spoke the few words slowly but clearly.

Meng Qi put down the plate, patted her chest and said, "Seeing you like this, your daughter-in-law is relieved. How do you feel now?"

Before the Queen could speak, Princess Jing smiled and continued, "The imperial physician came again in the evening. He is much better than he was this morning and even ate a small bowl of thin noodle soup."

"Oh, that's great! As long as we can eat, we'll be close to Da'an." Meng Qi laughed.

"But you're still weak?" Fanghua asked back in a rare tone.

The queen nodded and said, "I can only sit like this. I wanted to walk around, but my head feels heavy."

Princess Duan wiped her hands and came over, patting the soft pillow behind the Queen again. "You've been lying down for so long, how could you move so quickly? You were just worried about them, but now that they're here happily and happily, what are you worried about?"

Meng Qi looked at Princess Duan after she finished speaking, looking back at her with a look of anticipation. "I'm not saying anything bad about you, Sixth Sister-in-law, but you're a guest living in Sister Fanghua's house. It's polite to obey the host's arrangements in everything. How can you be so picky so many times? It's really embarrassing for Fanghua. You keep arguing with her three times a day, and it's worrying the Queen even when she's sick."

Princess Jing was already sitting on the embroidery stool at this time. She did not respond when she heard the words, but just smiled at her faintly.

Before Meng Qi could say anything, Fang Hua said, "Second sister-in-law means that Concubine Xiang made a mistake in her original arrangement and should have arranged for you to live with me, so that Sixth sister-in-law and I could have some peace?"

Princess Duan was about to interrupt Fanghua when she heard her mother-in-law mentioned, but Fanghua continued, "There are some things that no one has taught Her Majesty, so how could Her Majesty be so ill? If I were to ask you, it's these servants who deserve a beating. They clearly knew Her Majesty was not well, but instead of saying something nice to cheer Her Majesty up, they said these nonsense, causing Her Majesty to worry. How can that be justified?"

After saying that, she turned around and said, "Madam Sang, tell me, who told the Empress that Sixth Sister-in-law and I have been arguing three times a day lately? Find her and I will skin her alive."

Nanny Sang quickly stepped forward and said, "We dare not, we dare not, even if we have ten thousand guts, we would not dare to bother the Empress with these matters while she is resting."

Fanghua raised her eyebrows. "I don't think you dare. So, the source of the Empress's information is the Master? Could it be that it was Second Sister-in-law who told her?"

Princess Duan blushed, "You, what nonsense are you talking about? When did I ever tell Her Majesty this?"

Over there, the argument between Fanghua and Princess Duan attracted the attention of everyone in the room. Meng Qi quietly pulled open a purse strap on her sleeve, reached in with her right hand, pulled out the wet and slippery thing inside, and slowly put it on the ground along the sleeve.

The queen watched the two quarreling and was secretly delighted. She would ask Nanny Sang to exaggerate the situation and tell the emperor the story tomorrow. These two people were not getting along well with the emperor and Xiang, which would make her happy.

Princess Jing was also sitting there watching the two bickering, not trying to stop them. But now she saw Fanghua reaching out to tug at Princess Duan's sleeve, as if she wasn't going to give up. She knew she couldn't let Fanghua continue. Once Fanghua got angry, she wouldn't be able to stop until she achieved her goal.
