Chapter 175 Surprise Her

Sitting in the carriage back to Prince Rui's Mansion, Meng Qi felt that there were too many surprises today.

The first surprise was that Meng Wei dared to argue with Meng Yuan on Wang's behalf. And unlike before, Meng Yuan hadn't taken his youngest son's words to heart. Grandfather Meng Changfeng's eyes were filled with satisfaction as he looked at Meng Wei. Of course, the opposite of Meng Wei was Meng Shao's behavior, which didn't surprise Meng Qi at all. Seeing his father talking about his mother like that, as the eldest son, he sat there eagerly trying to talk to Song Chengze. He even wanted Song Chengze to intervene to defuse the situation. Haha, this good brother of mine was still the same as in his previous life.

The second surprise was Song Chengze. When they went to pay New Year's greetings to Meng Changfeng and the Song family, Song Chengze merely bowed and said a few auspicious words. But when they arrived at Shanzhi Hall, he asked Mother Guo to bring a cushion and kneel down with her to pay respects. This action frightened Mother Guo so much that she nearly fell ill. After only one bow from him, she hurriedly helped herself to her feet. Meng Qi still couldn't figure out whether this was Song Chengze's plan or a last-minute decision.

The third surprise was the relationship between Meng Wei and Zhou Yu. Zhou Yu called him "Third Brother" affectionately, even offering to help him pack the boxes. Watching the two happily walk out of Shanzhi Hall, the contented look on Meng Wan's serene face, and the flirtatious glances between them, Meng Qi felt completely relieved.

The fourth surprise was that the mother was really ill, but it was a heart disease. It turned out that it was the grandfather who was ill. The letter was written in November, but it was only received now. No one knew what had happened in the meantime. Wang wiped her tears and counted the time, worrying that her grandfather might have already... Meng Qi and Meng Wan both comforted Wang. No matter what, with the efforts of all parties, the emperor had already agreed to let Meng Qi's uncle Wang Boyuan return to Beijing. Since it attracted the emperor's attention, if there was really an accident with the grandfather, there would be news in Beijing. Meng Qi promised Wang at that time that she would let Song Chengze find a way to send a letter through the official post station. In addition, she also thought of Meng Xiu and wanted to write a letter to ask Meng Xiu for help. Finally, she thought about going back to ask Song Chengze if he could let Meng Wei go to Sichuan and take a detour to the northwest to check on the grandfather's situation.

The final surprise was how easily Hong Zhe could be deceived, just like himself in a past life. Just a few words, a few tears, and a gaze filled with deep affection convinced Hong Zhe that he had never given up on him. Watching him act out in front of her, saying he'd let her down, he felt powerless. He and Meng Juan weren't getting along well. He said he wanted to make a name for himself, but the fierce competition among the brothers meant he had no chance to show off in front of King Jing, and even his visits to the palace were rare.

(For this part, you can read "After Marrying for Others, I Was Forced to Fight at Home", because the length involved is a bit long, I won't waste your time here. I also declare that I am not a pusher, so if you don't like to watch that part, you can understand it just like this.)

She sneered inwardly, but feigned anxiety on her face, asking him how she could help him and whether she needed her to do anything in the palace. Seeing Hong Zhe casually slip the handkerchief she'd handed him to wipe the falling snowflakes from his hair into his sleeve, and the slight smugness on his lips, she knew he'd taken the bait. Very well, I'll show you how it feels to be played with.

The shaking carriage brought Meng Qi back to her senses. She recalled Hong Zhe telling her that once he could come up with a way to stand out in front of King Jing at the 15th Palace Banquet, he would write to her and teach her how to smile coldly that day.

"Okay, I'll wait until you've finished arranging everything in the palace. I want to see how you perform your one-man show. I'm not sure about anything else, but King Jing's wrath towards you and the excitement in your inner chambers will surely be a sight to behold."

By the time lights were dimmed in the evening, there was still no news of Song Chengze's return from the outer courtyard. Meng Qi guessed that Yue Zhen must be leaving for Sichuan the next day, and Song Chengze had a lot to tell him. Although she wanted to report to him about her meeting with Hong Zhe today, she was in no hurry. After all, her mission was to lure Hong Zhe into the trap, and Song Chengze would take care of the rest.

After a good sleep, Yuan Dong's voice came from outside, "Princess, it's time to get up. The prince is waiting for you in the outer courtyard."

Meng Qi rubbed her eyes and watched Yuan Dong lift the curtain. "What's going on? So early?"

Yuan Dong said as she hung the curtain, "Eunuch Hu just came to tell me that the prince wants to take you outside."

"Go outside?" Meng Qi sat up suddenly and looked at the bright white light outside. "Now?"

"Yes, when I asked him what he was doing, he just said he didn't know, but that the prince had sent him to tell you to dress warmly."

Meng Qi quickly got out of bed. What had happened? Could it be the emperor?

Thinking of this, Meng Qi felt a chill down her spine. If this was true, what should she do? How was this different from her previous life? The Emperor should still have more than a year left.

Song Chengze's arrangements were not yet complete, and some efforts were still lacking. If that were the case, the Rui Palace and the Concubine Lian in the palace...

Meng Qi didn't dare to think about it anymore. She ordered Yuan Yue to change her clothes and asked Yuan Dong to call Wang Chenghai to go into the palace with her.

Meng Qi's mind was in a mess. When she arrived at the outer courtyard, Song Chengze was standing there with his hands behind his back, explaining something to Song Lu.

Meng Qi was even more worried. Song Lu was called into the house so early, fearing that something big must have happened.

Song Lu saw Meng Qi and quickly bowed. Song Chengze turned around and looked at Meng Qi, who was panicked and worried. He looked her up and down and smiled gently, "Let's go. I'll tell you in the car."

It wasn't until the carriage drove out of the east corner gate of Prince Rui's Mansion that Meng Qi asked, "What happened? Is it in the palace?"
