Chapter 18: Not My Intention (Part 2)

Qionghua Palace was the palace that the emperor awarded to Concubine Lian after she was conferred the title of imperial concubine. It was not far from Chengtian Palace, but it took a while to walk to Kunning Palace.

Before leaving, Meng Qi took a few pieces of pastries from the table and asked Yuandong to have two pieces as well.

She didn't believe that Concubine Lian had invited her to lunch; she was probably using this opportunity to teach her a lesson. After all, to her and her son, she was an accident, an ignominious accident they had no choice but to accept.

Sitting in the warm sedan, Meng Qi put the last bite of cake into his mouth and carefully patted the crumbs on his hands, wondering how he should face Concubine Lian in a while.

Was it the "clunkhead" image everyone had in mind? Or was it his true state of mind? If only King Rui were here. Even if he couldn't say something as shocking as being reborn, he could have a frank conversation, at least show his resolve.

She believed that, with the "prophetic" knowledge she had gained in her previous life, she would definitely help King Rui in this life. As long as she was effective, King Rui would trust her and allow her to participate in his actions. Only then would she realize her wishes one after another.

The warm sedan stopped and Meng Qi came over in the sedan carried by Yuan Dong's men.

Song Chengze stood in the west room of the main hall of Qionghua Palace, watching the palace maid and Meng Qi greet each other through the glass window.

She had changed her clothes, revealing a lilac-colored skirt beneath her azure cloak. She had also restyled her hair, less elaborate than before, into a simple bun with a shooting-star hairpin. It swayed gracefully as she moved. She looked clean and refreshed, a beautiful young woman.

Meng Qi was taken to the west room by the aunt in charge of Qionghua Palace, who then lifted the cotton curtain, made a gesture of invitation, and then stopped Yuan Dong from following her.

Meng Qi nodded at Yuan Dong and smiled at the head aunt, "Aunt Mo, please find something to eat for this little girl."

Aunt Mo was stunned. She really didn't expect that Meng Qi actually knew her. Then she realized that even if she didn't ask, the wife of the Crown Prince of Huainan's Mansion would probably send someone to inquire about the people and things around Concubine Lian.

Aunt Mo was just like her master, showing neither joy nor displeasure. She nodded respectfully and kept the door curtain lifted without going in.

Meng Qi nodded, stepped over the threshold and entered the west room.

In her previous life, she had been to Qionghua Palace so many times that she could count them on one hand, but she had never been to the west room before. She was wondering why Concubine Lian didn't meet her in the banquet hall but came to the west room instead. When she looked up, she saw Song Chengze standing at the window with his back to her, the direction she had just entered.

Meng Qi was stunned for a moment, then she said softly, "This humble servant greets Prince Rui."

Song Chengze slowly turned around and looked Meng Qi up and down. This time he saw clearly that she had a peony tassel on her head, her mother's favorite flower.

"The medicine that Mother drank contained a tranquilizer. I'm afraid Miss Meng Si will have to wait a while."

Meng Qi raised her head and met Song Chengze's deep eyes.

"Your Highness, your words are very sincere. It is my honor to be summoned by Concubine Lian. It is only right that I wait for a while."

Song Chengze didn't expect Meng Qi to say that. He pointed to the chair and said, "Take off your cloak and sit down to rest. I'm sure mother will wake up soon."

Meng Qi responded softly, took off her cloak and placed it on the hanger, then walked to the chair and sat down, with a table between her and Song Chengze.

Meng Qi suddenly found it difficult to breathe. This man had a natural sense of oppression about her. She was unsure, but she had already guessed that Song Chengze must have something to say, and she had originally hoped to find an opportunity to talk to him. But when they were alone in the room, her mind went blank.

To ease the embarrassment, she reached out and picked up the teacup on the table. It was a little hot and it was obvious that it had just been brewed. Could it be that she had asked someone to bring it in after seeing her enter the courtyard?

"Miss Meng Si, are you interested in chatting with me?"

Song Chengze saw Meng Qi suddenly raise her head. Her small face, the size of a palm, looked a little unreal in the mist rising from the teacup she opened. The white mink fur around her lilac-colored jacket made her look even more gorgeous.

Song Chengze sighed inwardly. He really didn't need all this now. Thinking about the various complicated relationships and reasons involved in his marriage, he no longer had any hope for his third wife.

But some things should be made clear in advance. He can ignore the past and not delve into it, but everything after entering Prince Rui's Mansion cannot be done according to her temper.

Of course, he had originally planned to discuss this after they were married, but since they had met today, it would be better to make it clear sooner rather than later. Furthermore, the Empress wouldn't invite her to stay at the palace for no apparent reason; there hadn't been such a custom in the past.

What he said about getting to know her was all nonsense. He was just using her to criticize himself or his mother.

Meng Qi saw Song Chengze looking at her intently and replaced the lid on the cup. "This humble servant would also like to find an opportunity to talk to His Majesty."

Song Chengze was a little surprised. Meng Qi was so mature at this moment that it made people suspect that she was two different people from the one who had just been in the hall.

She just looked at him without blinking, obviously flustered but keeping her composure so as not to lose her composure.

"Oh? It seems that we have the same idea." Song Chengze smiled slightly.

Meng Qi exhaled, "May I speak first?"

Song Chengze was stunned for a moment, then nodded and said, "No need to be modest."

Meng Qi thought for a moment before she understood what he meant. She said, "I want to apologize to Your Highness. What happened in the past was not my original intention. But the Emperor's decree has caused Your Highness to be laughed at by others."

After saying that, he stood up and bowed to Song Chengze.
