When they arrived at the Marquis of Huainan's mansion, Meng Qi first went to the courtyard of Mrs. Song, the wife of the Marquis of Huainan. Meng Hai's wife, Liu, had a look of joy on her face, which formed a sharp contrast with Song's gloomy face.
Meng Juan watched Meng Qi enter, stood up, and smiled meaningfully. "A while ago, I heard that Fourth Sister had a miscarriage. Oh, how could she be so careless? You're known for keeping the concubines in the palace under strict control, yet something like this happened? I should have gone to see you, but my husband was busy on errands for Prince Jing recently, so it wasn't convenient for me to go out."
Meng Qi really didn't bother to fight Meng Juan over Hong Zhe's lawsuit. Her outburst on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month had given her a reason not to attend the palace banquet, ruining King Jing's plans. I heard Hong Zhe had slapped Meng Juan over it, and after being quiet for a few days, he's back on the prowl again. Perhaps he'd heard the news Meng Hai brought back? Did he have a clue?
Meng Qi first paid her respects to Mrs. Song, then said coldly, "It's better for me to have a miscarriage than for you. You don't even know what it's like to be pregnant."
Meng Juan's smirk froze on her face, turning red in an instant. Before she could reply, Meng Qi continued, "Why? Didn't Third Master Hong beat you up and break your legs and arms just because you came to the palace to cause trouble? Yeah, it seems he only slapped you in the face. How many times? I'm afraid he didn't slap you enough, so you won't learn your lesson."
"You, Meng Qi, what are you talking about? You don't know how to behave. If it weren't for the unclear relationship between you and your husband, how could I..."
With a crisp "pop" sound, Liu stood up in shock. "Meng Qi, what are you going to do? How dare you?"
Meng Qi flexed her wrists. "Why wouldn't I dare? I'm the dignified Princess Rui, the Emperor's daughter-in-law. How dare she, the daughter-in-law of a Viscount's mansion, speak to me like that? Beating her would be the least of my worries. If I hear her say anything that displeases me again, I'll go to the palace to find the Emperor. Do you think I dare?"
Liu looked at Meng Qi's wide-open eyes, and then saw her daughter covering half of her face with an aggrieved look. She knew that Meng Qi was right, but she really couldn't swallow this anger, so she turned to look at Jiang.
Jiang was also intimidated by Meng Qi's aura. When she saw Liu's gaze sweeping over, she thought for a moment and stepped forward, pulling Meng Juan over and pretending to check her face. She said to Meng Qi, "Fourth sister, what's wrong? Did you get angry with the prince at the palace, or is it because of your miscarriage that the prince is still unhappy with you? Now you're going home and throwing a tantrum."
Meng Qi chuckled. Look, this was her beloved sister-in-law, bullying her younger sister-in-law for an outsider. But thinking back to what Meng Shao and Jiang had done in her previous life, she didn't find it strange at all.
"I originally thought you were my mother's daughter-in-law, but later I found out you were my second aunt's daughter-in-law. Now it seems like in the past year or so, you've become my third aunt's daughter-in-law too?"
When Jiang heard this, she asked, "You, what are you talking about?"
"Oh, I was talking nonsense. So you're still Mother's daughter-in-law? I'm your sister-in-law?" He reached out and tapped Jiang, "I'm telling you, don't be so careless, or you might end up losing your way. I'm telling you this today. Didn't you tell Mother you didn't have time to accompany her to visit me after my miscarriage? Very well, from now on, anyone and anything related to you, Jiang, will get the hell out of here. Do you understand?"
Meng Qi leaned forward and said, "I know how you got into the Meng family. If you dare to be so disrespectful in front of my mother again, Meng Shao's face will be worthless. I won't even bother to touch that garlic from your Jiang family."
Jiang's face flushed and she whispered, "I don't know what you are talking about."
"Don't know? Okay, I'll find someone to help you think about it later. How about that? Do you dare to let me find someone to help you think about it?"
Seeing Meng Qi's disdainful expression, and thinking about the news that Meng Qi had miscarried at the Marquis' Mansion, she was so happy that she was rolling back and forth in Liu's room. Wang sent someone to find her, saying that she would accompany her to the Ruiwang Mansion to see Meng Qi.
She didn't give Guo Mama any face at all, saying that a princess had actually let a concubine lose her child, which made Meng Qi's status in the palace look low. She also made fun of Zhang, Meng Wei's wife, who had accompanied Wang to see Meng Qi, saying that she had chosen the wrong person and would regret it.
Seeing everyone's different reactions, especially the way Liu and Meng Juan were being scolded by Meng Qi, Song felt very happy. But she also knew that Meng Changfeng was pretending to be sick this time just to get Meng Qi back.
"Okay, what's the matter? The Marquis is still sick. Sister Qi, your grandfather has been talking about you. Go and see if it's true."
Meng Qi stood up straight, picked up a handkerchief and fanned the room, "Grandma, what's the smell in this room? It's very unpleasant. For the sake of your health, please don't let any cats or dogs back in." After saying this, she saluted Song and turned away without paying any attention to the crowd.
Although she knew that Meng Changfeng was pretending to be sick, Meng Qi still sighed in her heart when she looked at him.
Meng Changfeng also loves Meng Qi, his youngest granddaughter, very much. In his previous life, Meng Changfeng was implicated by Meng Hai and died before Wang. Basically, for Meng Qi, her dissatisfaction with Meng Changfeng was limited to his punishment of Wang after she exposed the affair between herself and Hong Zhe, but in the final analysis, it was her own fault that Wang was implicated.
Meng Qi sighed and looked at Meng Changfeng, whose hair was gray, eyes were dull, and cheeks were thin. She first bowed and greeted him, then poured a cup of tea and brought it over.
Meng Changfeng sat in the chair and coughed twice. "Do you understand why I asked you to come back?"
Meng Qi sat down by herself and shook her head. "I only guessed that Grandfather wanted to see me, but I don't know why."
Meng Changfeng sighed as he recalled everything his granddaughter had done since her marriage, both in the Rui Palace and in the palace. He knew she was useless, but there was really no other way.
