Chapter 235 Seeing the True Heart (I)

Wang Chenghai put down his shovel and walked over with a smile, "Princess, you really can't lie down like this every day. The doctor really said last time that walking around properly will help you recover from your injuries. Look at me, I'm much better now."

Meng Qi's eyes narrowed as she whispered, "I'm not a princess anymore."

Everyone was silent when they heard this. Meng Zhi waved at Wang Chenghai and sat down in the chair opposite Meng Qi. "Have you really figured it out? Are you going to live like this for the rest of your life?"

Meng Qi lay back down again. She didn't know that her mind was in a mess. She had never thought that she could get away so easily that day.

After jumping down the tunnel with Wang Chenghai one after the other, they walked forward in the dark. Fortunately, there was no other exit from the tunnel, so they just had to keep walking. When they were almost at the end, she told Wang Chenghai about the tunnel.

"Have you thought it through? I'm not planning on coming back. If you have other plans, just go back. With your intelligence, you'll naturally come up with a good excuse. There's only one thing: you're not allowed to tell anyone about me. This will also preserve our two years of master-servant relationship."

Wang Chenghai nodded vigorously, even though he knew Meng Qi couldn't see. "I will follow you. No matter how good the palace is, without you, it's meaningless for me to stay here. No matter where you go, you will need someone to serve you."

"No regrets?"

“No regrets.”

Meng Qi nodded, and the two of them emerged from the tunnel and entered the small courtyard they had been in before. Looking out from inside, flames were already blazing to the northwest. Meng Qi hadn't expected the fire to burn so fiercely.

But she didn't have time to think about it. She pushed open the gate and saw a group of people coming from afar. Wang Chenghai straightened his clothes and leaned over. After a while, he came back and said, "They are carrying water over there."

Meng Qi nodded. When she came here last year, she looked back and asked about it. There was a canal here that directly connected to the outside of the city.

The two of them walked out along the wall. Fortunately, everyone was busy putting out the fire and no one noticed them. After Wang Chenghai found a set of palace maid's clothes for Meng Qi to wear, they took advantage of the chaos and left the palace through the west corner gate.

Just when Meng Qi was worrying about how to get to the farm, Wang Chenghai took out the stack of banknotes prepared by Yuan Dong from his pocket.

The two men found an inconspicuous little shop to spend the night, and got on the hired sedan chair early the next morning. The foot that was sprained when jumping down the tunnel yesterday was still painful. Fortunately, they had enough silver, and the two men successfully left the city and arrived at this small courtyard.

Wang Chenghai looked at the villa in surprise. When he left last night, he had thought Meng Qi would take him back to the Meng family, or at least to the Prince Shen's mansion. But Meng Qi had taken him out of the city after a night out, and had found him here.

As he knocked on the door, he was still wondering if it was the princess's friend's house, or her dowry farm.

After waiting to see Mama Liu and Yuanyue, Wang Chenghai was so surprised that his mouth couldn't close. Mama Liu and Yuanyue were also surprised, obviously not knowing about Meng Qi's arrangement.

Wang Chenghai wisely chose not to ask. As long as he stayed by Meng Qi's side, he would serve her wherever he went.

Later, waves of news came from the palace, especially after Prince Rui ascended the throne. Mother Liu was extremely anxious and kept asking Wang Chenghai what had happened during those days and why the princess did not go back.

Wang Chenghai just shook his head without saying a word. He was also puzzled, but he knew that Meng Qi must have her reasons for doing this.

Mother Liu repeatedly entered Meng Qi's room, only to return with a pale face. Meng Qi had even issued a directive not to allow anyone to leave, and not to open the door even if someone knocked.

It was not until the procuring Ma Da brought back the news that the emperor had conferred the title of Empress Zhaocheng Zhichunsi on Princess Meng of Xianrui that Mother Liu completely gave up.
