Chapter 32 Kill a Chicken First

After hearing what the little girl said, Liunian felt his hands shaking. He didn't care that it was Xiaolin's nap time and hurried into the upper room.

"What did you say? What pagoda meat? If you want to eat it, just let them cook it. What's the harm in having a little trouble?" Xiao Lin said impatiently.

"That's not the case. The concubine saved me because the princess also ordered this dish today. The ignorant people in the kitchen could have just refused to make it, but they served me the pagoda meat in front of the maids in the princess's courtyard."

Xiao Lin finally understood. She sat up straight, frowning, "What did you say to the kitchen a few days ago?"

"This servant said that there is no small kitchen in Jing'an Garden. For the first few days, no matter who's food is coming from the princess's side, they must go to the main kitchen to get it. They must not cook too fast. If they can make things easier for them, they should do so."

Upon hearing this, Xiaolin picked up a pillow and threw it at Liunian. "You're causing me trouble! You're causing me trouble! I usually give you the tasks in the main kitchen, but how do you handle them? You didn't even notice how clueless I am. You're causing me trouble, but can't you tell the difference between the primary and the secondary? Don't you know what's important?"

Liunian also hated her to death. The housekeeper in the main kitchen was replaced just after the Chinese New Year. She had been nagging her mother every day since last autumn. It was not until the Chinese New Year that her one-year-old nephew received two solid gold bracelets, and then she replaced the original one.

She knew that the housekeeper was not a very smart person, but she thought that as long as she was in charge of the kitchen and kept an eye on it and gave some pointers, nothing big would happen. She never expected that the princess would cause such a big mess for her on the first day she came home.

Liu Nian quickly knelt down and kowtowed, "It is my fault for not teaching them well, letting them talk nonsense and not understand what is going on. Concubine, you can punish me in any way you want, but what can I do now? I need your help."

Xiaolin sighed, calming down for a moment. Suddenly, she felt that this might be an opportunity to test Meng's temper. Since it had already happened, it was unnecessary to explain herself now. The cook was right; the order was delivered so late, how could it be done? If Meng refused to give up, she could just bring the cook up. Then, she could wipe off her tears and complain to the prince about her. Humph!

Thinking of this, Xiao Lin said coldly, "Get up, go to the main kitchen yourself and have them carefully prepare the pagoda meat, along with the other dishes that were not prepared at noon, and send them to Jing'an Garden in the evening."

Liunian saw that Xiaolin's complexion had recovered a little, and he felt relieved. When he was about to leave, the maid reported that Li Mancang had arrived.

Xiao Lin was stunned. There were not many eunuchs in the mansion. Unless there was something in the outer courtyard that needed them to convey, or there was something that required their help or appearance, they generally would not come here.

After listening to what Li Mancang said, Xiao Lin breathed a sigh of relief. It turned out that they were coming for the small kitchen. That was easy to deal with. She had been thinking about how to get Meng to bring up this matter.

"Originally, this matter was my fault. I had to let the princess bring it up herself. I will go and apologize to her later."

Li Mancang wiped his face and watched Xiao Lin's bright red lips opening and closing. He sneered inwardly, but did not show it on his face. He bent his waist and said respectfully, "Then I will call someone to build a small kitchen for the princess?"

Xiao Lin groaned, "Little Li, please don't say that to the prince. He might think it was me who stopped the princess from building a small kitchen. This kind of chore has always been your responsibility. You forgot and put it on me? How can I be the master of Jing'an Garden?"

Li Mancang greeted Xiao Lin's ancestors for eighteen generations and said with a smile, "You are joking, Concubine. Although I am responsible for those rough jobs, the kitchens in the inner house, whether big or small, are under your control. Without your approval, I dare not touch them. I believe that the princess has also heard about this, otherwise I would not have the right to speak to you about this."

Xiao Lin looked at Li Mancang and smiled faintly, "Don't mention the princess. For the prince's wedding, the inner court has been busy since the beginning of the twelfth lunar month last year. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and who can think of such thoroughness? Even though the eldest young master hasn't been eating much these past few days, we borrowed his usual cook to work in the main kitchen for the prince's wedding."

"Yes, yes, yes. In our palace, when we talk about you, everyone praises you for your understanding. There are so many things to do, and there are always unexpected things. Don't worry, I know how hard you work, and I will never cause any trouble for the concubine."

Xiao Lin nodded with satisfaction. "In that case, quickly find someone to come and build the princess's small kitchen. Don't make any more mistakes."

Li Mancang's heart skipped a beat. He knew that Meng Qi had not met these concubines. He thought that since she had not even met them, he, the eunuch in charge of the inner courtyard, would probably have to sit in the back row. So he was not in a hurry and even drank two sips of rice wine in the middle of the day to warm himself up.

However, before his head hit the pillow, he was told that the princess wanted to see him. He changed his clothes and brushed his teeth for fear that the princess would smell the alcohol on him.

He ran to Jing'an Garden and got these two tasks. After coming out, he first arranged for the eunuch who followed him to go to "Fumanlou" to make the pagoda meat, and then he hurried to Huamu Garden.

Therefore, he had no idea why the princess asked him to buy the meat, and he didn't take the time to investigate. Now, after hearing what Xiao Lin said, he became suspicious. Could it be that it was still related to the big kitchen and Huamuyuan?

Li Mancang saw that Xiaolin hadn't said anything else, so he said goodbye and returned. As he entered the courtyard, he saw Wang Chenghai coming out.
