Chapter 5: Mother and Three Gossip

Seeing her youngest daughter back to normal, Wang smiled more. She called her two daughters to her side, and Mother Guo took out two booklets and handed them to Wang.

"I didn't expect Sister Qi to get married first. I was thinking that Sister Wan's marriage would be scheduled for the beginning of next autumn, so there would still be enough time to sort it out between the two of you in the summer. But now it seems that it's better to sort it out sooner rather than later."

Wang handed the two booklets to her two daughters with a smile.

Meng Qi took it and said to Meng Wan with a smile, "Second sister, open it quickly and let's compare it. If there is any difference, I will not agree."

Meng Wan was stunned. This was the first time Meng Qi had spoken to her in such a tone since she fell in love. Although the two sisters had become much closer since she knew that he had married Zhou Yu in her place, such playful banter was still rare.

Then he smiled and said, "Yeah, I thought so too. We must take a good look at it and not make a mistake in distinguishing even a single needle."

Wang looked at her two daughters and burst out laughing. She reached out and tapped Meng Qi's forehead. "You naughty monkey, you're trying to tease your sister by teasing me, aren't you?"

Meng Qi put the booklet on the table and said, "Mother, no need to look at how you divide it and how my second sister and I take it. I don't think my second sister will care about this, right?"

Meng Wan also placed the booklet on the table and nodded. "Mother, you don't have to give it all to me and my fourth sister. Not to mention that my third brother and his wife still need your help, even when my nephew and niece grow up, I'll have to contribute to the betrothal gifts and dowry."

Meng Qi clapped her hands, "Second sister is really thoughtful, that's exactly the point. Third sister-in-law is easy to deal with, but don't let Jiang Shi make trouble with you later, she is shameless."

Wang frowned, "What's wrong with you? I see you've been at odds with your sister-in-law lately. The last time she came to see you, there were so many people around, and you gave her a hard time, leaving your brother in a difficult position."

Meng Wan also wanted to ask this. After Meng Qi recovered, she seemed like a different person. She seemed to have no interest in anyone in the Meng family and seemed too lazy to even talk to them.

Even the wife of the Marquis of Huainan, Mrs. Song, who loved her dearly, was no longer as affectionate as before, and was more of a perfunctory and superficial friend. She even implicitly accused Mrs. Song of not sending anyone to thoroughly investigate the servant who had deliberately leaked the news that she had fallen into the ice.

Meng Wan guessed that Luo Bing must have hit his brain or something like that.

But her attitude toward Meng Shao and his wife was different. Meng Wan knew Meng Qi disliked them, especially Jiang. Even when Meng Qi was working for her, she had always been unkind to Jiang, and even Jiang's two sons had never gotten any favors from her. But she had never been so harsh. Just like Wang had just said, when the women of the Meng family came to visit her a few days ago, she showed no mercy to Jiang at all, and her sharp tone was as sharp as if she had a grudge against her mother.

"Brother? How could it be difficult for him? If he found it difficult, he wouldn't have watched Jiang treat you like this." Meng Qi said disdainfully.

Wang sighed, "You're getting married soon, so there's no point getting angry with them. I admit I'm not happy with your sister-in-law, but she's been married for so many years and has given birth to two sons. I wouldn't ask for anything more. You may be marrying into the royal family, but your family is your foundation. If you offend her too deeply, who knows what will happen in the future."

Meng Qi curled her lips. "Mom, don't tell me. They and I are just incompatible. Besides, I never thought of relying on them. I still have my third brother. If that day ever comes, he will protect me. Second sister, right?"

Meng Wan looked up at Meng Qi's cunning expression and nodded, "Of course I'll listen to Fourth Sister. After all, compared to Fourth Sister, I'm the newcomer."

When Meng Qi heard this, she was stunned at first, and then she giggled. This second sister is really a wonderful person.

Wang felt a headache watching the two sisters singing the same tune. "I don't care about you anymore. Just remember, never let your elder brother and sister-in-law lose face in front of outsiders again. Understand?"

Meng Qi shrugged, "It depends on my mood."

Wang looked up at Meng Wan, who shook his head. Wang sighed and picked up the booklet on the table. "Since you don't want to read it, then it's settled. I'll have Qiuxia take a good look at it later. The managers of the shop and the farm are all old people under my mother. I suggest they keep them in charge until you get married and have free time. Then we can do other things. How do you think?"

Meng Wan smiled and said, "Mother has the final say. I'm not in a hurry. Since Fourth Sister's companion room has been decided, let them go and take a look first. I have a plan in mind, right?"

Meng Qi nodded. When she heard Meng Wan mention the maid, she remembered that her maid was from Lin Qing's family, Qing Rui, who was Meng Wan's godsister when she was still Su Qing.

"Just do as Second Sister says. I'll have Mama Liu go look for Qingrui. I heard her husband, Lin Qing, is very knowledgeable about farm affairs."

Wang nodded. "I never thought Sister Qi would marry into the Wang Mansion. Now it seems that two chambers of maids are not enough."

Meng Qi was drinking tea. The tea was not the black tea that she usually drank in winter, but a colorful one with a hint of sweetness. It tasted very good.

Hearing Wang's words, she quickly waved her hands, "No, mother, it's enough. You also said that I don't plan to change the managers of the shop and the farm. When the time comes, let Qingrui and Jiaohong's husbands only be responsible for the general ledger."

Qingrui and Jiaohong were originally the maids beside Meng Qi. They were also the companions that Wang had intentionally kept for her. They also married Wang's own people and had no relationship with the people from other families in the mansion. This way, she could think more wholeheartedly about Meng Qi.

"That won't work. When you get to the palace, there's still a lot of stuff going on there," said Wang.
