Song Chengze was about to turn into the corridor leading to Bibo Hall when he heard Hu Changsheng ask, "Who is it?"
Song Chengze stopped and looked, only to see two people standing under the flower tree in front, but without lanterns. If he didn't look closely or make any noise, he wouldn't have looked over there.
Hu Changsheng knew Kung Fu, so he sensed someone was there in the blink of an eye.
The two people under the flower tree heard the question and slowly walked out. One of them bowed to Song Chengze and said softly, "I was thinking of going to the princess's place. I saw someone coming from a distance and wanted to avoid them, but I didn't expect to block the prince's way."
Since the last incident, Song Chengze has never smiled at Xiao Lin, especially when he saw that she was not devoted to Song Baimo, he was even more displeased.
"What's the matter? Why are you so anxious to bother the princess at night?"
Xiao Lin took a step forward, her skirt scraping across the bluestone bricks. "I heard that the princess is having troubles. I have no other skills, so it would be helpful for her to resolve some of the problems. Ever since the princess entered the family, I have caused her many worries, and I feel truly guilty. Especially with the eldest young master's matter, I sincerely reflect on how I used to only care about his food and clothing, but neglected to guide him in other areas. These days, seeing Sister Wu and the eldest young lady accompanying the princess every day, I, as her elder sister, am truly ashamed."
Song Chengze's tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly, "You are right to think of these things, but the princess has too many things to worry about. Don't disturb her at night. If you have anything, go during the day." After saying that, he continued to walk forward, looking like he didn't want to say more.
Xiao Lin was anxious. She really planned to go to Jing'an Garden tonight, but she didn't expect to meet Song Chengze here. It was really a pleasant surprise. How could she miss the opportunity to be alone with each other?
As he watched Song Chengze pass him and continue forward, he cried out, his foot slipped and he fell towards Song Chengze.
Song Chengze subconsciously reached out to support Xiaolin and hugged her tightly in his arms.
"It's too slippery, thank you, Your Highness."
"Is it okay?" Song Chengze said.
"It seems like I have no strength in my feet." Xiao Lin pouted her rosy lips and gently raised her phoenix eyes to look at the handsome man.
How long had it been since she had been held in his arms like this? It was so warm, so alluring. Xiao Lin reached out and hooked her arm around Song Chengze's neck, gently whispering at his chin, "It's late, Your Highness, you're alone in the study, sleeping on the cold pillow. Why don't you go to Huamu Garden and let me warm your feet?"
Song Chengze smelled the strong incense on Xiao Lin's body, frowned and was about to speak, but when he looked up, he saw two figures not far away heading towards the Bi Bo Hall.
Xiaoman followed Meng Qi closely without daring to say a word. Meng Qi walked very fast, as if someone was chasing her. She stopped only when she was almost at the door of Bi Bo Hall, exhaled lightly, and then laughed at herself. What was wrong with her?
Those were Song Chengze's women. Before they married him, Song Chengze had hugged each of them. No, even hugging them like this now was perfectly normal.
Meng Qi guessed that she and Song Chengze had been married for more than a month, and they were not actually husband and wife at all. It was impossible for Song Chengze to be without women to serve him, not to mention that there were so many women in the backyard, all eagerly waiting for him.
She hadn't deliberately inquired, nor had she ever heard which courtyard Song Chengze had been to in the past month. As far as she knew, Song Chengze never allowed women from the inner courtyard to go to his outer courtyard study, let alone wait on him overnight.
Therefore, she was not sure how Song Chengze had been able to get close to these women for such a long time, or whether he had solved it outside? She did not believe that Song Chengze would keep it to himself, because a prince really couldn't afford it, and she had clearly told him how they got along, so Song Chengze would not let herself be wronged.
Therefore, even if he took Xiao Lin to Huamu Garden right now and came to see her after he was done, she would not be able to say a word of objection, nor could she even show the slightest bit of displeasure. Not to mention that she and he were not actually husband and wife, even if they had had physical intimacy, she had no right to stop Song Chengze from favoring other women.
But when she saw Xiao Lin falling into Song Chengze's arms and Song Chengze hugging Xiao Lin, there was a moment of pause in Meng Qi's heart. She couldn't describe the feeling.
Meng Qi regulated her breathing and signaled Xiaoman to knock on the door.
Before anyone could open the door, Song Chengze's voice came from behind, "Why are you leaving so fast?"
Meng Qi's body froze for a moment, and after a while she turned around and saluted Song Chengze, "The prince is back."
Meng Qi didn't hold a lantern, so Song Chengze couldn't see her expression clearly. He could only feel the awkwardness and a hint of unnaturalness in her voice.
"Lin twisted her ankle just now, and I asked Hu Changsheng to take her back to Huamu Garden."
Meng Qi looked up at Song Chengze. There was really no need for him to say this to her, but since Song Chengze could explain it, Meng Qi still felt his respect.
"Is it serious? Do you need a doctor?"
"It shouldn't be necessary. The snow that melted during the day will freeze at night, and it's possible that you won't be able to walk steadily. Hu Changsheng will take care of it." As Song Chengze spoke, the door of Bibotang creaked open, and a young eunuch hunched and stepped aside.
The two of them entered the east room of the study one after the other. Ginkgo lit the candle on the desk, then lit the palace lantern in the corner of the room. Xiaoman put the food box on the table.
Song Chengze took off his cloak and looked at Meng Qi standing there staring at the candle on the table without moving. He whispered, "Are you cold? Ask them to bring in a brazier?"
Meng Qi came back to his senses, reached out to untie the cloak strap, and said with a smile, "I'm not cold, there's no need."
Song Chengze looked at Meng Qi's slightly red face and ordered the eunuch to bring in a brazier.
