Meng Qi had just sat down when she saw someone come in. She thought it was Yuan Dong, but when she turned around, she saw Song Chengze sitting opposite her.
This was the first time the two of them rode in a carriage, and they were so close that their knees almost touched.
It's not like there haven't been times when the two of them sat close together like this, but they were in a spacious room, and there was either a table or a kang between them. They had never looked into each other's eyes like this before. Meng Qi felt like she could even count how many eyelashes Song Chengze had.
"Your Highness...Your Highness doesn't ride a horse?" Meng Qi said with a slight stutter.
Song Chengze hummed, "It's a bit cold outside today."
Cold? Meng Qi thought about the willow branches in the cold garden that had already begun to sprout, and wisely said nothing more.
The carriage began to shake, and the sachets hanging on the four corners swayed left and right. There was an unavoidable awkwardness in the air.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. After hearing the palace gate open and close, Song Chengze slowly said, "Thank you for your hard work."
Meng Qi raised her head, looked into Song Chengze's sincere eyes, sat up straight and smiled slightly, "It's not hard, I also want to thank the prince for giving me this opportunity."
"You're right. There are things you can do that I can't or won't do easily. What you've discovered is something my mother couldn't have easily accomplished even after all those years in the palace."
"Your Majesty holds a high position, how could she possibly be searching for clues in such a place? I just don't know if those things can help Your Majesty. If they are what Your Majesty is looking for, Your Majesty will have to worry about it."
"Not only that, even if those things weren't what we were looking for, or what Second Brother wanted to find, just through this incident, we knew the meeting place and password in the palace had been exposed. This is a great achievement."
Meng Qi understood that if Wang Chenghai had not gone to look for Zhong Da that night, they would probably continue to use that clue. If they were caught red-handed while arranging other important matters, the loss would be huge.
Also, if Jongdae was discovered by others, she thought it would be an even greater loss for Song Chengze.
"It can be seen that there are too many people hiding behind the scenes in the palace. I am afraid that it is not easy to arrange the affairs of the prince in the palace."
Song Chengze hummed, "Each of them may seem like fools, but who is actually simple? They all have supporters behind them, and they have all run their businesses for so many years. Now that it has come to this critical moment, who would be willing to be someone else's bride? They have to give it a try themselves."
"Your Highness, don't worry. The Crown Prince is the legitimate heir and will always be in power." Meng Qi said softly.
Song Chengze nodded, "So, this is the only way for me to go."
Meng Qi couldn't say more about him sitting in that position in the future at this time. After he said it last time, Song Chengze's performance was enough to show that he had never thought about it. He really wanted to assist the prince wholeheartedly.
She was not in a hurry to bring up that matter again. After all, that happened more than two years after the prince became emperor in her previous life.
"Tell me in detail about your situation over the past month. Don't leave anything out."
Meng Qi nodded and started the story from the day she entered Hanyuan.
The carriage went straight into the second gate. Song Chengze jumped out of the car first, turned around and stretched out his hand to pick up Meng Qi.
Meng Qi was really surprised. She looked at the servant standing beside the car, thought for a moment, and then put her hand in Song Chengze's hand. It felt dry, warm, and solid.
"You go back and rest for a while, I'll go outside to discuss with them."
Meng Qi nodded, and suddenly thought of the letter in her small clothes. After thinking for a while, she said softly, "Your Highness, please come to Jing'an Garden early this evening. I have something here that is too important. I didn't dare put it with the others. I forgot about it in Qionghua Palace just now."
Song Chengze was surprised at first, then nodded.
------
Meng Qi took a good hot bath, ate a bowl of hot noodle soup, and had a good sleep.
When I woke up again, lanterns were hung in the yard and it was completely dark.
Meng Qi rubbed his forehead, "Who's outside?"
Yuan Yue responded and stepped forward to open the curtain. "Princess, are you awake?"
Mother Liu followed behind, holding a cup of tea and coming forward. "Drink some warm water first. Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"
Meng Qi drank some water and waved her hand. "What time is it? Can Yuan Dong and Wang Chenghai go back to rest?"
Yuan Yue took the cup and placed it on the small table beside her. "It's the twilight hour. Yuan Dong and Eunuch Wang have gone back to rest. Don't worry, Princess. I've seen them eat and wash up."
Meng Qi nodded and let Mama Liu squat down to put her shoes on. "Didn't the prince enter the inner courtyard?"
"Yes, Hu Changsheng came to see you just now and saw that you were still asleep. He said that the prince said there was no need to wake you up. If you wake up, go to Bibo Hall and tell him, and the prince will come back."
Mother Liu's words were really cheerful, and Meng Qi couldn't help laughing. Mother Liu must have known that the two of them were coming back in the same car, and she must have been happy that she cared so much about her and took the initiative to go back to Jing'an Garden.
Meng Qi didn't explain, "Tell Xiaoman to go to Bibo Hall and tell them I'm awake and invite the prince to come."
Watching Mama Liu go out to instruct Xiaoman, Meng Qi asked Yuanyue, "How has the mansion been doing in the past month?"
As Yuan Yue hung up the curtain, she said, "Baochun, Haitang, and the five other people in the mansion who are of age have all been arranged to marry by Concubine Li."
"Everything arranged?"
"Yes, Haitang was fine. Perhaps she heard the rumors and took the initiative to choose a family. Concubine Li also agreed to marry her. But Baochun refused to leave. She knelt at the entrance of Bibo Hall for two days, begging the prince to make a decision for her. However, the prince didn't even enter the inner courtyard during those days. Later, she wanted to go to the outer courtyard, but was stopped by Eunuch Zhang. She was then dragged out by the maids arranged by Concubine Li, cursing all the way."
