Chapter 99 Preparing to Go Home

Meng Qi was very happy to receive Song Chengze's clear answer. Since she had been confined to her room and had embarrassed Prince Rui, and had feigned illness while under house arrest in order to attend Hong Zhe's wedding, it was only natural that Prince Rui would never enter her room again.

That night, Meng Qi slept very well. She had fallen into a deep sleep right after she came back. She thought she would not be able to sleep at night, but she didn't expect that she would not even have a dream.

The next day, Meng Qi, feeling refreshed, saw Song Bairan holding the wet nurse's hand and looking at her timidly. Meng Qi waved at him. Song Bairan glanced at Zhao, then walked gently to Meng Qi.

"Let me see, is it all right?"

Song Bairan opened his mouth obediently. Meng Qi looked at his lower lip and could no longer tell that it had ever been broken.

"Were you in a lot of pain that day?" Meng Qi asked.

Song Bairan shook his head at first, then nodded, "Thank you, mother, for standing up for me that day. Last time when cousin Qing bullied me, no one believed what I said. They all said I accidentally fell."

Meng Qi felt a little distressed. She touched Song Bairan's head and said, "If you are bullied in the future, you must speak up. Look at that day, even though I didn't seek justice for you, your brothers and sisters still stood up bravely, didn't they?"

Song Bairan smiled and nodded, "Yeah, when father came back he praised my elder brother and elder sister."

"They did a good job, so they should be praised. Brother Ran, remember, you are brothers. From now on, no matter who is bullied outside, you must help each other."

Song Bairan nodded. "Father said that when I grow up and become as strong as him, no one will dare to bully us."

Meng Qi thought to herself, there’s no need to grow so big. In three or four years, no one will dare to bully you.

Meng Qi asked Yuan Dong to arrange for someone to clean up the east wing for Song Bairan to live in, and instructed Zhao, "Go back to Chu Yuyuan and get a few of the maids and servants that the Second Young Master usually uses. You don't have to bring all of them, but there should be someone to watch over the door. The prince wants the Second Young Master to stay in Jing'an Garden for a while, and you can live in the east wing. If you need anything, just go and ask Madam Liu for help."

Although Zhao Shi didn't know what the prince meant, she really didn't like coming to Jing'an Garden. Although she wasn't a member of the Gong family, because she had protected the Second Young Master for so many years, the Gong family had given her many benefits, both openly and secretly. As the Second Young Master's wet nurse, she knew that the family's prosperity depended on him.

Although she was a servant, she knew that she couldn't neglect one thing for another like Xiao Lin did. Zhao kept her eyes fixed on Song Bairan, knowing that only when he was well could her family be well.

She had been living well in Chu Yuyuan, and she had the final say in all matters concerning the Second Young Master. But that night, the prince brought the injured Second Young Master to Jing'an Garden without a single word.

Although she had nothing to do with the Second Young Master's injury, the prince's actions still made her feel uneasy. She didn't believe the rumors in the palace that the prince wanted to register the Second Young Master under the name of the new princess.

Firstly, the Second Young Master was Gong's only bloodline, and Gong was the legal wife, so there was no precedent for this. Secondly, the new princess had only been married for a few months and was still in her prime, so she would definitely have her own children, so there was no need to raise the previous princess's children.

But she didn't think so, and she really didn't know the prince's intention, so she could only obey.

"After entering Jing'an Garden, you will continue to be responsible for the second young master's affairs. You can continue to do the same here as you do in Chu Yuyuan on weekdays." Meng Qi's words made Zhao feel relieved, and she knelt down in response.

Meng Qi couldn't guess Song Chengze's intention of bringing Song Bairan to her yard, but she really didn't have the energy and felt there was no need to care so much. It was fine as long as it was the same as before.

He loudly instructed Yuan Dong to find Wang Chenghai and ask Wang Chenghai to help move Song Bairan's things over. He also specifically told him not to move too much, just what he could use on a daily basis. If there was anything missing, he could go back and get it.

Watching Zhao and Song Bairan retreat, Madam Liu happily handed the list to Meng Qi, "Princess, take a look. Is it okay? If there's anything you don't like, I'll go and select it again."

Meng Qi took the list, looked at the entire thing, and said with a chuckle, "It doesn't have to be so long. Mother doesn't care about the format. Just pick the good and novel ones."

Madam Liu smiled and said, "The Second Young Lady once said that sometimes form is more important than content. We must show them that you are not what they heard you were in the palace."

Meng Qi then realized that Mama Liu was trying to save face by doing this, so she smiled and said, "Okay, then let's do as you wish. Is the calligraphy I wrote ready?"

"Not yet, it will be almost done in two days. The gold thread is all new gold, so it will take some time."

"It doesn't matter. There are still several days left. We must be careful and ask Shitou to keep a close eye on it."

"Don't worry, Shitou has been staying in the Golden Building for the past two days without doing anything else."

Meng Qi was satisfied. Wang's birthday was just a few days away. While at Hanyuan, Meng Qi had written the characters for "longevity" and "blessings." After returning, she arranged for Madam Liu to have Shitou take the characters to Jinlou, wrap them with gold thread, and then embed them in glass to create a display stand.

Seeing Meng Qi happy, Madam Liu was also delighted. "Did the princess also hear about what happened on the day of the eldest lady's wedding in the palace?"

Meng Qi nodded. That day, everyone pointed the finger at Princess Jing because of this and talked about what happened at Hong Zhe's wedding for a long time, which made Princess Jing, who usually had a very good temper in front of everyone, look gloomy and unhappy.

Indeed, no family would be happy to encounter such a thing. The bride ran into the funeral procession and the spirit banners on her way out of her parents' home. When she arrived at the palace gate, the bottom of the sedan chair fell off and the bride fell out. This was not just a joke, it was something to be laughed at. It would be strange if Princess Jing looked happy.
