Yuan Yue wiped Meng Qi's hair while saying, "How did the princess know? Did I say that it was Madam Hai's idea that the kitchenette was not built? And what about the matter in this courtyard?"
Meng Qi took a mouthful of noodles and let out a long breath, her stomach instantly warming. "You guys go have a bowl later. If it's still difficult for you, I'll just cook it on the stove in the back room. Tell them that if they encounter anyone who's in trouble, go find Madam Hai and tell them the truth. There's no need to hide or exaggerate."
Madam Liu sighed, "Princess, there's no need to worry about us. The servants have already eaten, as have Suxin and Lixia. I thought I wouldn't let them serve tonight, so I'll let them rest early."
Meng Qi nodded. "Wait for the prince to come back. Madam Liu can go and rest. Yuandong and Yuanyue will be on duty tonight. Remember, no one is allowed to come to the upper room tonight. I mean, no one is allowed to get close. Do you understand?"
Yuanyue and Yuandong looked at each other and nodded.
"Also, from now on, whenever the prince comes back to his room, no one is allowed to enter without permission. The guards in front of and behind the room should be on high alert. We'll arrange shifts later, and no one should be left alone in the room."
The master and servant were talking when they heard footsteps outside, followed by the announcement from the maid, "The prince is back."
The door was pushed open with a "creak", and Song Chengze walked in with his clothes lifted up, bringing with him a hint of coolness and a slightly strong smell of alcohol.
Before Meng Qi could say anything, Nanny Hai hurried in, "Your Highness, have you drunk too much? This old servant prepared some hangover soup. Your Highness, please drink it first."
Song Chengze sat down at the table and rubbed his forehead with his hand. Nanny Hai took the sobering soup from the tray held by Haitang and handed it to Song Chengze.
Song Chengze wiped his face, took the wake-up soup and drank it in one gulp. Baochun hurriedly picked up the candied fruit in the small dish and wanted to put it into Song Chengze's mouth, but Song Chengze waved his hand.
Meng Qi looked up at Baochun's hand which was frozen holding the candied fruit, and snorted, causing Baochun's face to turn red instantly.
Nanny Hai stepped forward again and said, "This old servant thinks that the prince must have gone out to drink. The kitchen has prepared fine noodles, wontons, and seafood porridge. Would the prince like to have some in?"
When Mother Liu heard this, she suddenly raised her head. Well, just now when she went to make a bowl of noodles for the princess, she had to ask someone else for it, but this time she prepared so many kinds of noodles for the prince. Was she deliberately slapping them in the face?
It seems that the situation in this palace is more complicated than she thought, and the fourth young lady will not have an easy life in the future.
Upon hearing this, Song Chengze went to see Meng Qi. Meng Qi was standing beside him, her fair face framed by her bright red nightgown, her hair draped behind her head, and an unfamiliar old woman and maid standing beside her.
"Has the princess eaten yet?"
"She has eaten. The princess just told the girl beside her. It was my oversight. I thought the princess would wait to eat with the prince, so I didn't think much about it. If I had known that the princess would eat first, I would have asked them to bring it to her, which would have saved me the trouble."
Meng Qi raised an eyebrow, but she didn't look at Nanny Hai, instead she looked at Song Chengze. Song Chengze smiled and said, "I was the one who told the princess not to wait. You all go down. You don't need to serve here anymore."
Madam Liu looked up at Meng Qi, who nodded. Yuan Dong and Yuan Yue followed Madam Liu out. Madam Hai paused for a moment, then thought for a moment before saying, "I'm thinking, should I have Bao Chun take over the night shift?"
Song Chengze turned to look at Nanny Hai and said, "Just bring me a bowl of whatever the princess had just eaten. Also, I think the princess should have explained everything clearly about this matter."
Nanny Hai's face froze, then she bowed to the two of them and retreated.
Song Chengze rubbed his forehead again, felt better, stood up and went to the bathroom.
"I wonder who usually helps His Majesty wash and dress? Do you want me to call him in?"
Song Chengze paused and turned to look at Meng Qi, "No need, Princess, please prepare my pajamas for me."
Meng Qi let out a breath. She couldn't remember what her wedding night was like in her previous life, but they definitely didn't talk so much. She remembered that she just sat there honestly and let Mother Liu wink at her without moving.
She never figured out whether Baochun and Haitang were taken in by Song Chengze. She neither saw them combing their hair like women nor was they given any official status, but they were allowed to enter the inner house and serve.
