Chapter Nine: There's a Kitten Under the Table
Apologize.
When those two words reached Sang Ruo's ears, her hand, which was in front of her, suddenly clenched.
She raised her gaze and looked at Bo Jinyan's face.
The man's sharp jawline softened slightly in the dim light.
He curled his thin lips into a smile, but remained silent.
This family dinner was indeed held to welcome him back to China, and it certainly ended on a sour note.
“I’m sorry, Uncle…” Bo Jinzhou’s brows furrowed slightly for a moment: “It’s my fault for not stopping her at the time. I shouldn’t have let her ruin this family banquet so recklessly. After all, it’s rare for the whole family to be together like this. I don’t know when we’ll have such a good opportunity again.”
Bo Jinyan raised his eyelids and glanced at him indifferently.
After a long pause, he slowly spoke: "I remember Miss Sang said that she did not do this. Our Bo family has always been fair. I suggest you investigate thoroughly and not wrongly accuse someone without distinguishing right from wrong."
Upon hearing this, Sang Ruo raised her eyes in disbelief.
But the man kept looking ahead, never once glancing down at her.
Even he was willing to believe her.
But her husband and son, with whom she had spent so many years, unconditionally favored that "white moonlight" (her first love/ideal)...
Bo Jinyan's words also surprised Bo Jinzhou.
If I remember correctly.
This is the second time tonight that my uncle has spoken up for that woman.
"Uncle, she's a shallow and vain woman with a deep scheming mind! You don't understand her. Three years ago, she framed Yuxin, which is why she went to prison. Now she's even willing to harm her own child. What else is there to investigate? This was clearly her doing!"
Sang Ruo unconsciously clenched her hands in front of her.
One wave of irony washed over me.
Bo Jinyan curled his thin lips into a cold smile, his phoenix eyes gleaming with icy lightness, and scoffed, "Is that so?"
“Yes! Uncle…” Bo Yukang chimed in from the side, muttering, “Mom did indeed frame Aunt Xin Xin. Dad and I were nice to Aunt Xin Xin, and she targeted her in every way. I don’t understand why!”
"Isn't it all because of jealousy?" Bo Jinzhou's eyes flashed with anger. "She's petty and narrow-minded, intolerant of even the slightest injustice. She's been in there for three years and hasn't changed a bit. She even dared to harm her own child when she got out! She's utterly unfit to be a mother..."
Because of his anger, Bo Jinzhou raised his voice by an octave.
She seemed to be just complaining to Bo Jinyan, but her words were full of slander against her.
Sang Ruo, who had been hiding under the desk, was furious.
If she had heard these words in the past, she would have cried in despair.
But right now, I have no other emotions besides anger.
It turns out that once a person's heart dies, even the feeling of coldness is lost.
Sang Ruo's tightly clenched fist suddenly loosened a little.
Perhaps due to excessive anger, his body moved instinctively.
The space under the desk was already cramped, and with her sudden movement, her elbow accidentally bumped into the desk.
A dull thud broke the tense atmosphere.
"What is that sound?" Bo Jinzhou held the child's hand, his grip tightening involuntarily. "Uncle, it seems to be coming from under your table."
Bo Jinyan lowered his eyes and glanced at her indifferently.
Sang Ruo also happened to look up and unintentionally met his gaze.
His eyes were as dark as ink as he stared at her with amusement.
In just two seconds, she quickly lowered her head, subconsciously pulled her hand back, and dared not move again.
My heart is pounding in my throat.
Her current situation gave her the illusion that she was having an affair.
Bo Jinyan leaned back in his chair and, seeing Sang Ruo look away, also looked away.
A half-smile curved the man's lips as he tapped his fingertips lightly on the table, his tone casual: "There's a restless little cat under the table."
kitten……
He pronounced the two words with a very intimate tone, the ending sound languid and exceptionally clear.
Sang Ruo's heart skipped a beat, and she pursed her lips.
The space under the desk made her feel suffocated.
"You have a kitten?" Bo Yukang's eyes lit up. "Uncle, you have a kitten?"
"Hmm." Bo Jinyan nodded slightly: "I just picked it up today."
"Can I see them? I love kittens so much, but my parents won't let me have one..."
"I'm afraid it won't work today." Bo Jinyan's voice carried a hint of doting: "She just got back today and isn't used to the current environment. She's a bit fierce and might scare you."
Bo Yukang tentatively asked, "How about next time?"
The man nodded slightly and didn't reply.
Bo Jinzhou seemed to sense the displeasure in his eyes, and took the child's hand, intending to leave: "Uncle, it's getting late, I'll take Xiao Kang back first, and I'll treat you to a proper meal later when I have time."
"Um."
The man responded indifferently and watched them leave.
Sang Ruo slowly raised her head again only after the footsteps faded into the distance.
"Come out, little kitten..."
When the deep and pleasant voice reached her ears, Sang Ruo's body suddenly paused for a moment.
In her mind, this man was incredibly powerful, with a vast network of connections and resources. Looking across the city's business district, there were few who could rival him.
Every time she appears in front of others, she exudes a cool, aloof, and dignified aura.
I never expected him to have such a carefree side.
After the man moved the chair, she quickly crawled out from under the table.
She noticed the small detail of him bracing his hand against the edge of the table.
"Thank you, Mr. Bo, for today."
Sang Ruo bent down slightly, and the corners of her lips curved upwards a little.
"It was nothing." Bo Jinyan's thin lips parted slightly, his face regaining its usual aloofness: "Besides, we are family, there's no need to be so polite."
"That won't be the case for long." Her tone was firm, her eyes filled with decisiveness and resolve: "I'm going to divorce Bo Jinzhou, and I'm not just saying it."
The man frowned slightly for a moment, then said calmly, "I heard from him that you've been in prison?"
She didn't shy away from the question: "Yes."
Bo Jinyan leaned forward slightly, crossed his hands on the table, and gently tapped the back of his left index finger with the fingertip adorned with a black ring. He raised his slightly cold phoenix eyes and gazed at her quietly.
"After being released from prison, life will undoubtedly be difficult for you. Why would you choose to divorce your nephew at this time?"
The man's voice was very soft, revealing no extra emotion.
Sang Ruo lowered her eyes and met his gaze.
His pupils were too deep, as black as a cold pool on a winter night, unfathomable.
She said, word by word, "I was foolish before, blindly pursuing love. Now I see reality clearly and my mind is clear. It would be truly foolish not to leave. Getting out of prison is just an experience, but it cannot stop me from moving towards a new future. I will not let marriage become a shackle on my progress!"
