Chapter 891 Two Choices
Old Master Wen gave a direct order: "I'm giving you an order! If you don't choose one of these two options, I'll go back to China and personally bring you back! If Gong Lian sees you then, don't blame me for not giving you face!"
After saying that, before Wen Qingyi could speak, Old Master Wen hung up the phone.
The beeping sound in her ear made Wen Qingyi's heart sink. She only had a little over ten days left in this month.
In just over ten days, she will be able to return to Gong Lian's side and become his official girlfriend!
Why does Dad have to break them up at this time?
Why can't Dad put himself in her shoes?
Wen Qingyi felt so wronged that she just wanted to cry. The tears welled up in her eyes and grew thicker until she finally sobbed out loud.
Her tears fell like pearls from a broken string, her eyes were slightly red, and even her ears were tinged with red.
But nobody cared.
At 6:30 in the evening, Gong Lian returned home from work and saw Wen Qingyi sitting alone on the sofa.
He frowned slightly: "What are you doing here?"
Instead of working, you're just sitting here?
Is this the seat she should be in given her current status?
"Gong Lian, I have something I want to talk to you about." Ever since receiving that phone call, Wen Qingyi had been waiting for him here: "Can we talk alone?"
Seeing that she seemed really serious, Gong Lian pondered for a moment and said, "Come with me."
After saying that, the man took a pile of documents upstairs, with Wen Qingyi following closely behind.
Then, they followed him to the study on the second floor.
When Wen Qingyi came in, she made sure to close the study door behind her. When she reached his desk, she heard him say, "Just say what's on your mind. I have work to do."
"Gong Lian, I want to go back to North America." Wen Qingyi said with difficulty, "There are some things at home that I need to go back to take care of. Could you let me go back?"
Back to North America?
Noticing her choice of words, Gong Lian suddenly looked up from the document and stared intently at her: "Back to where in North America? Vancouver? Or the United States?"
You know, North America is huge. Vancouver and New York, where Bo Jinyan is located, are both in North America.
I just don't know which city in North America she's going to.
“I haven’t decided yet. I’ll go back to Vancouver first.” Wen Qingyi was still hesitating about the choice: “But my schedule is already set, and I must go back.”
Although she didn't know why her father did it, if she had to choose, she could only go back to Vancouver and see how things went.
Gong Lian found her request strange: "Your itinerary is already set, but you don't know where in North America you're going back to?"
"Wen Qingyi, do you think I would believe you?"
Her words clearly implied a certain degree of concealment, suggesting that she was hiding something from him.
He didn't like the feeling of being kept in the dark.
"Then what will it take for you to believe me?"
Gong Lian curled his lips into a nonchalant smile: "It's simple. Tell me the truth, tell me the whole story, and then I can decide whether or not to let you go back."
“If you don’t tell me the truth, I will absolutely not let you have a chance to go back. Think it over carefully.”
Wen Qingyi knew he wasn't so easily fooled, so she told Gong Lian everything that Old Master Wen had said that afternoon, word for word.
"That's how it is. My father insists that I go back, and I have no choice but to accept it. He gives me two options, and I don't know what to choose."
As soon as he finished speaking, the already quiet study fell into a deathly silence.
After an unknown period of silence, Gong Lian suddenly spoke: "So, are you planning to become Xu Chen's assistant? Are you sure you want to give up everything in the domestic entertainment industry? To retire completely?"
He had many films in development and was preparing to cast her as the new female lead when he heard this news.
"I don't want to, because it's the job I like, but I can't go against my father's wishes."
Wen Qingyi was really torn: "Gong Lian, tell me, what should I choose?"
She felt this choice was incredibly difficult; she simply didn't want to give up everything in China and return to North America.
Because she had worked so hard for so long, and finally reached the day when she could return to Gong Lian's side, her father blocked her from doing so.
She didn't want to give up.
If she gives up, wouldn't all her previous efforts have been in vain?
"This is a matter for your Wen family, and has nothing to do with me." Gong Lian was much calmer and more rational than her: "If you want to go back to North America, I'll grant your request, but I still have to ask you a question."
Will you come back?
Will you return it?
Even Wen Qingyi herself couldn't say for sure about this.
Wen Qingyi's silence, in Gong Lian's eyes, seemed to have taken on a different meaning: "It seems you're not planning to come back, nor are you planning to return to my side, is that it?"
“No, I didn’t say that.” Upon hearing this, Wen Qingyi immediately retorted, “This is just my father’s idea. I’m going back just to resolve this matter. Once it’s resolved, I will come back.”
Her answer pleased Gong Lian: "Okay, you said it yourself. So I'll give you three months. If you return to China within three months, our previous agreement will still be valid."
"However, if you don't return to China within three months, everything that happened between us before will be null and void! From now on, we'll go our separate ways. You go your way, and I'll go mine."
Wen Qingyi was unwilling to make this choice, looking aggrieved: "Gong Lian, why do you have to force me to make a choice?"
Her father was already forcing her to make a choice, which was already upsetting enough. Why did he have to force her to make a choice too?
Is it fun to force her?
"Are you misunderstanding something?" Gong Lian couldn't help but sneer, "Am I forcing you to make a choice? I'm giving you a safety net, and also giving myself a safety net. What if you don't come back to China? Do you expect me to wait for you to come back every single day in China?"
"You know our relationship, I can't wait that long for you."
In the past, he might have waited for her to return to China.
But now, after experiencing so much, his feelings for Wen Qingyi have naturally and inevitably changed.
He could never love her the way he used to, nor wait for her as he had for ten years.
He also did not forget the promise he had made to Sang Ruo.
The goal hasn't been achieved yet, so how could he risk ruining the rest of his life?
Wen Qingyi was immediately heartbroken, her eyes red as she looked at him: "But you've already waited for me for so many years, can't you wait another year?"
She and he could reunite in just over ten days, so why is he still so cold and distant towards her?
