Hearing Hao Zhengguang's words, You Tianfu also frowned, but he was not surprised in his heart. Because he had analyzed it before, if he could be sentenced to five years in prison for fighting, there must be more than one reason!
After finishing his gossip, Hao Zhengguang hushed, "Whatever business they do has nothing to do with us. I'm just listening for fun. Don't spread rumors. Lü Chuan is like a Tibetan mastiff without an owner. Who knows when he might turn against you and bite you! In this entire prison, I treat you as a true brother!"
You Tianfu nodded and chuckled softly: "Don't worry, I treat you as a real brother."
Two days later, Lü Chuan was sent back to prison. He had fully recovered and appeared to be doing fine. The first thing he did upon returning was to find Wang Ning and inquire about the circumstances surrounding the poisoning. Upon learning that he had been saved thanks to You Tianfu's help, and that You Tianfu had nearly been killed by Li Meng because of it, his eyes suddenly sharpened. He glanced at You Tianfu, then gazed towards the cell door.
His eyes were as sharp as knives, and his gaze was filled with chill, as if he could see Wu Feiyue in cell number eight through the iron door.
Lu Chuan didn't say a word of thanks to You Tianfu, but the concern in his eyes said it all. He remembered this favor and would do his best to protect You Tianfu, ensuring he lived in peace and safety in the days ahead.
Over the next few days, although Lü Chuan and Wu Feiyue continued to glare at each other like enemies, neither of them deliberately provoked a quarrel. They were like a lion and a tiger, sizing each other up, waiting for their chance to strike.
Li Meng and Lin Lidong were never sent back to prison. Wang Ning asked the prison guards and only learned that Li Meng had a head injury and would probably need to rest for a while before being sent back. The prison guards did not mention a word about Lin Lidong.
You Tianfu knew that Lin Lidong must have escaped from prison successfully, but it was hard to imagine how much pain he had endured and how he had escaped.
Life in prison has its ups and downs. The prisoners' daily work is varied. Sewing insoles and making trouser legs are considered easy, while physical labor such as farming and casting is also commonplace.
You Tianfu was thin, and whenever he had to do physical work, he would always fall behind. Hao Zhengguang would spare some energy to catch up with him. You Tianfu saw this and was grateful, but he still joked with him: "Save your energy, or you'll get diarrhea."
Hao Zhengguang grinned nonchalantly: "You've forgotten what I do. I've been a chef for a long time and I can tell if food is fresh just by smelling it. I won't eat anything that can make people have diarrhea!"
I don't know if it was because You Tianfu was blessed with a good mouth or if Hao Zhengguang couldn't help but talk about it, but at noon that day, he became very excited and ran to the toilet four or five times in an hour. The prison guards who reported it became impatient.
After a lot of effort, it was afternoon. A group of people finished work and went back to take a shower. Hao Zhengguang walked into the bathhouse with a towel. Before he turned on the faucet, his stomach started rumbling again. He could only wave to You Tianfu and turned around and ran to the toilet again.
Hao Zhengguang defecated for half a day and went to the toilet more than ten times. The stuff in his stomach had been cleared out long ago, but the force kept stirring him up.
He squatted in the toilet, grimacing and straining for a long time before finally managing to fart, the pain in his stomach easing. He breathed a sigh of relief, wiped his butt, and was about to pull up his pants and leave when he looked up to see several figures walking in, led by Wu Feiyue and Liu Zhong!
Wu Feiyue, his arm around a fifty-year-old man, staggered into the restroom, fumbled for a cigarette, and lit it. He took a deep drag, his face full of intoxication, and blew the smoke into the old man's face. "I've already made arrangements outside. The money will arrive on time at 2:00 PM. Do you have any questions?"
The old man was very bald. Even though he had shaved his head before coming in, you could still see the glistening skin on his head.
His face was brimming with age, his eyes filled with a complex mix of nervousness, hesitation, fear, and uncertainty. He stood hunched over, not daring to move for a long time. "Boss Wu, I thought about this for a long time yesterday. How about... you find someone else? I... I'm thinking of another way to raise the money..."
"Think of another way? Do you have any other ideas? As a father, you know the girl's situation better than I do. You have time to think, but she doesn't have time to wait!" Wu Feiyue tilted his head, looking serious.
"You're fifty-one this year, serving a life sentence. Even if you behave well and get your sentence commuted, you won't be released for at least twenty years. Twenty years from now, you'll be seventy-one, your wife and daughter gone. What's the point of living?"
The vicissitudes on the old man's face turned into frustration. He opened his mouth but did not speak.
"The bathhouse is steamy and noisy. If you're done, just leave. The guards might not even know who did it. With the money, you can cure your illness. If you behave well later, your sentence can be reduced. Then you can be released directly and let the girl retire. Isn't that good?"
Hearing this, Hao Zhengguang's heart tightened. In this prison, there were only a handful of people who had a grudge against Wu Feiyue. Besides Lü Chuan, there was You Tianfu. Lü Chuan was protected by Ma Liu and Hu Jicheng, so he was very safe. You Tianfu had previously offended Wu Feiyue, then saved Lü Chuan and left Li Meng in the hospital. So, the "target" Wu Feiyue was referring to was most likely You Tianfu!
The prison toilets are semi-open. Although each toilet is separated, there is only a one-meter-high barrier in front. Even if you squat down, you can still stick your head out if you raise your head.
Wu Feiyue's conversation was accidentally overheard by Hao Zhengguang. He knew what the consequences would be if he was discovered, so he had to hold his breath and lower his head, not daring to move at all!
Fortunately, Wu Feiyue and others were all paying attention to the old man. Seeing that the old man's psychological defense was finally broken, he handed him a flat-blade screwdriver, stuffed the remaining half of a cigarette into the old man's mouth, and turned away staggeringly.
