A fierce glint of murderous intent flashed in Mike's eyes as he said, "Gilth, there's a saying in Xia: 'No poison, no man.'"
Giles was somewhat puzzled and asked, "What do you mean?"
Mike said, "Shen Dong is our biggest threat. As long as we can kill him, it will be worth it, no matter how much we suffer or how many people die."
Giles finally understood what Mike meant and exclaimed, "You...you mean to blow up Chen Dong and the police station together?"
Mike said in a deep voice, "This method has the highest success rate because no one will predict that we will be willing to pay such a high price to kill Chen Dong. When the time comes, we can just blame it on the remnants of the Lion Mercenaries."
Giles's expression was extremely solemn as he said, "Yes, I know what to do."
After leaving Mike's office with the documents, Giles told West District Police Chief Lawrence to come see him immediately.
Lawrence is 53 years old this year and has two years left before retirement.
For the past ten years or so, he had been working in the police force as a clerical officer. Three years ago, he was transferred to the Western District Police Station as its commissioner.
Within the US-led coalition, they are considered dispensable.
"Mr. Giles, what can I do for you?"
Lawrence, cunning and shrewd, first glanced at Giles's expression, then cautiously asked.
Giles handed Lawrence the documents in which Hu Yali accused Shen Dong, saying, "Take a look first."
Lawrence took the document and began to read it carefully.
It took Lawrence a full five minutes to finish reading the document, his mind already churning with turmoil.
"Mr. Giles, do you mean I should arrest and interrogate Shen Dong?"
Giles said irritably, "Invite Mr. Shen to your police station to assist with the investigation, and release him after forty-eight hours."
Lawrence was taken aback. "Mr. Giles," he said, "I don't understand why we're doing this?"
Giles said, "This is Chief Executive Mike's intention. He wants to show the outside world that everyone is equal before the law in Hong Kong. Even the richest man must abide by the law."
Lawrence nodded and said, "Understood. I guarantee I will complete the mission."
Giles said, "It's best to get this done before six o'clock this afternoon."
Lawrence nodded and said, "Yes, Mr. Giles."
As Lawrence left Giles' office, he was practically cursing Giles to death in his heart.
Who is Shen Dong?
A super-rich man with over 20,000 mercenaries, and the biggest terrorist in Hong Kong.
Many American officials and key figures in conglomerates have died at Shen Dong's hands.
And yet, he went and asked him to go to the police station to assist with the investigation, and then detained him for 48 hours. It's ridiculous.
Compared to Shen Dong, what is he, the police chief, worth?
Just when Lawrence was at his wit's end, he happened to run into Raymond, the Central Police Station Commissioner, in the elevator.
Although Raymond and Lawrence belonged to different factions, they had always had a very good relationship.
"Lawrence, you look so worried. Is something bothering you?"
Lawrence, unaware of Giles's true intentions, handed the documents directly to Raymond and said softly, "That Giles guy has lost his mind. He actually wants me to arrest Mr. Shen and take him to the police station for questioning, and then detain him for forty-eight hours. Tell me, isn't that asking me to die?"
Raymond was shocked, but his face remained calm. He said, "That's not right. Has Hu Yali lost her mind? How dare she sue Shen Dong?"
Lawrence smiled wryly, "Who says otherwise? It's no secret in Hong Kong that Shen Dong spent five billion US dollars to buy dozens of properties from Hu Yali. Now that he's suddenly pulled this stunt, even I know she has no chance of winning this case."
Raymond handed him the documents and said, "You have just over a year left before retirement. Yet Director Giles has put you in this position. If you anger Shen Dong, you and your family may not be able to return to America alive."
Lawrence forced a smile that looked more like a grimace and said, "How could I not know that? Damn it, he's trying to kill me."
Raymond laughed and said, "If you're not afraid of being scolded, I can help you with that."
Lawrence's eyes lit up, and he asked, "How can I help?"
Raymond said, "I'll just take Shen Dong to the Central Police Station and detain him for forty-eight hours, won't that solve the problem?"
Lawrence asked in surprise, "Aren't you afraid that Shen Dong will hold a grudge against you?"
Raymond said, “You’re from the US faction. If you offend him, he definitely won’t let you off the hook. But I’m different. I’m from the mainland faction. As long as I treat him with courtesy and invite Superintendent Li Wenbin over for a chat, I might not only avoid being resented, but also become friends with Mr. Shen. However, if you entrust this task to me, you’re sure to get a scolding from Giles.”
Lawrence said happily, "I'm about to retire anyway, let him do whatever he wants. Raymond, my good brother, you've done me a huge favor this time."
Raymond waved his hand and laughed, "Don't mention it. I should thank you for giving me the opportunity to get to know Mr. Shen."
After parting ways with Lawrence, Raymond frowned.
As a high-ranking official in the mainland branch of the police force, Raymond knew that the relationship between Shen Dong and the American faction was irreconcilable.
Almost all officials in the U.S. faction wanted to kill Shen Dong, but so far, Shen Dong is still alive and well.
Meanwhile, the Americans who took action suffered heavy casualties.
Now, Giles's sudden stunt has left Raymond somewhat bewildered.
He called Li Wenbin and asked him to meet him at his police station office.
Because of the previous incident involving Lian Haolong, Li Wenbin was demoted two ranks from Chief Superintendent to Superintendent and assigned to the Narcotics Investigation Department.
During this period, he solved three major cases in succession, arrested more than 100 drug lords, destroyed two factories, and seized as much as 2,000 kilograms of heroin.
At the strong urging of the Inland Clique, Li Wenbin was promoted to Senior Superintendent, the same rank as Raymond.
"Raymond, what brings you here?"
Li Wenbin understands Raymond's personality very well.
There's no way you'd invite him to your office for tea unless it's something important.
Raymond handed the documents he had intercepted from Lawrence to Li Wenbin and said, "A dignified Director of the Security Bureau bypassed the Commissioner of Police and directly ordered a police station chief to detain Mr. Shen for forty-eight hours. Li sir, what are you thinking?"
Li Wenbin put down the documents and frowned, saying, "They want to make a move against A-Dong."
Raymond asked, "Poisoning or assassination inside the police station?"
Li Wenbin shook his head and said, "No. A-Dong possesses a magical sixth sense that allows him to detect approaching danger. It's virtually impossible for them to secretly kill A-Dong."
