Chapter 654 Framing

Vic said, "Gilth is dead, it couldn't be him. With so much happening, you, as the commander-in-chief, would be the first to be affected, it certainly wouldn't be you. So the only problem is the garrison, right?"

Mike sighed and said, "It's also possible that Shen Dong guessed our plan."

Vic said, "That idiot Ralph has been abandoned by the military. He and Clyde will be in charge of this incident. What you need to do now is figure out how to reasonably pin the whole attack on them."

Mike asked, "Sir, what about the inland areas?"

Vic said, "You need to go to the Xia Hua Society in person and sincerely apologize to them. We are currently negotiating with the Xia government. From their words, we understand that the key to the problem lies with Shen Dong. Only by gaining Shen Dong's understanding will the Xia government be willing to let this go."

Mike said bitterly, "He killed so many people, and we have to apologize to him? This...this is simply outrageous."

Vic snorted and said, "Isn't this all your fault? It's normal to lose a war, cede territory and pay reparations, let alone suffer a little grievance."

Mike asked, "Boss, am I going to be abandoned too?"

Vic stated bluntly, "Your successor is Ms. Wyatt Angelia."

Mike asked in surprise, "Why her?"

Victor said, "Because Wyatt Angelia is a gentle, generous, and quite talented woman. The people of Hong Kong need a leader like her to appease them."

Mike frowned and said, "The problem is that she's too mild-mannered; she definitely can't compete with those inland officials."

Vic said, “Mike, can’t you see? We’ve lost control of Hong Kong Island. Whether it’s politics, economics, or military, we can no longer compete with the mainland. Our current strategy is to connect with the centrists, suppress the mainland faction, and at the same time do everything we can to incite discontent among Hong Kong businessmen and citizens towards the mainland. In this regard, no one is more suitable than Angelia.”

Mike said, "I understand. I'll have a proper handover with Angelia whenever she arrives."

Victor said, "She will arrive in Yandu this afternoon to meet with officials from the Xia Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Tomorrow afternoon she will go to Pengcheng to meet with Shen Dong. If all goes well, Angelia will arrive in Hong Kong with Shen Dong."

Mike said, “I understand. You’re using a conciliatory approach. Everyone knows that the protagonist of this incident is Shen Dong. As long as he’s willing to return to Hong Kong Island with the succeeding Hong Kong Island Chief Executive, then there’s hope of getting through this crisis. But Chief Executive Vic, have you considered that Shen Dong might take this opportunity to bite us hard?”

Vic said, "There's nothing we can do about it. Alright, Mike, do your last job before you step down."

Mike said, "General, see you in America."

After hanging up the phone, Mike leaned back in his chair, his face full of helplessness.

We lost!

They lost miserably!

At 11 p.m., Mike received a report from Qiao Ding'an.

"Commander-in-Chief Mac, General Ralph and Air Force Commander Clyde are dead."

"How did he die?"

"He was shot dead by Lieutenant Colonel Odell with a submachine gun."

"Where is Odell?"

"Dead."

"Okay, I got it, I'll be right there."

Mike knew that the American government had intervened.

Holding Ralph and Clyde accountable for this terrorist attack is enough to appease the angry citizens of Hong Kong Island.

The next step is to figure out how to shift the blame onto them.

Half an hour later, Mike arrived at the military base.

Looking at the bodies of Ralph and Clyde, Mike frowned and asked, "Why did Odell do this?"

Qiao Ding'an took out a letter and said, "This is his suicide note. It says that this terrorist attack was entirely planned by Ralph and Clyde. The reason for killing them is that Odel had a grudge against Ralph. Ralph killed his father ten years ago, and Odel came to the military base three months ago to seek revenge. Taking advantage of the fact that Ralph had no guards around, Odel killed him directly, and Clyde was just implicated."

Qiao Ding'an didn't believe a single punctuation mark in the will.

This design is just too crude!

The trope of avenging one's father is so overused it's become cliché.

If you want them to take responsibility, at least make it seem like it is.

After reading the suicide note, Mike asked, "Joe, what do you think?"

In his suicide note, Odell detailed the planning of the terrorist attack.

First, Ralf had a grudge against Shen Dong. His cousin was the leader of the Lion Mercenary Group and died at the hands of the Tenglong Mercenary Group.

To avenge his cousin, Ralph dispatched six armed helicopters to kill Shen Dong.

After learning about this, Clyde secretly dispatched a team of men to ambush the area around the Central Police Station.

His goal was to destroy the helicopters, get rid of Ralph, and then become the garrison commander himself.

What Clyde didn't expect was that Ralph was so audacious that he actually allowed the Lion Mercenaries to blow up an important figure in the United States.

It turns out that Ralph didn't want to be a soldier forever; he wanted to go into politics, and he had spent a lot of money bribing officials over the past two years to achieve this.

The more key officials of the Hong Kong Island government die, the greater Ralph's chances of successfully taking office will be.

Both of their plans succeeded, the only unexpected thing was that Mike actually survived.

Clyde originally intended to use the evidence to force Ralph to step down, but unexpectedly, he died alongside Ralph.

Qiao Ding'an certainly didn't believe the contents of the suicide note, but he still went along with it, saying, "I can only say that it's possible. Chief Constable Mike, did Mr. Ralph tell you that he wanted to work for the government?"

Mike said, "He's said it at least ten times. He wants to be the Chief Secretary for Administration, but I've never agreed, which is why we don't get along."

Qiao Ding'an said "Oh," and then added, "If that's the case, then the letter is even more credible. Because in this attack, Chief Secretary for Administration Mr. Carter was the first to be killed in the bombing."

Mike thought for a moment and said, "Joe, come with me."

The two walked to a secluded corner, and Mike said, "Joe, I need your help."

Qiao Ding'an said, "Commander-in-Chief, please speak."

Mike said, "I've already received a call from home, and I expect to be back within a week. I need to resolve this matter before my term ends. And now that Ralph and Clyde are dead, do you understand what I mean?"

Qiao Ding'an understood Mike's meaning perfectly well, so he pointed to the suicide note in Mike's hand and said, "Sir, hasn't the truth already come out?"

Mike raised an eyebrow, patted Joe Ding'an on the shoulder, and chuckled, "Joe, you're right."
