Chapter 35 Bribing the Foreigners

After a hearty meal, none of them went home. Instead, they stayed at Shen Dong's villa until 2 a.m. before finally going to sleep in the guest room.

Inside the bedroom, Chen Dong smoked while holding Qiu Ti, whose face was flushed, and asked, "Qiu Ti, what kind of job are you planning to do?"

Qiu Ti said, "I can work as a clothing salesperson."

"cough"

Shen Dong coughed after hearing her words and laughed, "If you become a clothing salesman, where will I put my face?"

Qiu Ti said, "But I don't know how to do the others."

Shen Dong thought for a moment and said, "I'll enroll you in an accounting course. Go and study hard. When you come back, you can help me manage the money."

"Manage the money?"

Qiu Ti exclaimed, "Brother Dong, I'm afraid I can't do it."

Shen Dong smiled and said, "Just because it's not possible now doesn't mean it won't be possible in the future. When it comes to money, I must entrust it to someone I can trust, understand?"

Qiu Ti was very happy to hear this and said, "Okay. I will study hard."

The next day, Shen Dong recommended a financial management training course to Qiu.

Qiu Ti knew this was a rare opportunity, so she began to study diligently.

Following Shen Dong's instructions, Ahua wrote a bearer check for ten million dollars from Citibank and handed it to Shen Dong.

"Brother Dong, are you really going to start a taxi company?"

"Of course. Of all businesses, a taxi company is the easiest to start. As long as you can get Richards George on board, everything will be fine."

"I'm afraid it will be difficult."

“No foreigner doesn’t love money. As long as we guarantee he won’t be invited for questioning by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), he’ll definitely agree.”

"Brother Dong, it seems you're quite confident."

"Whether it will work or not, we'll find out once we try."

Shen Dong stood up and said, "Ahua, come with me to the Transportation Department."

An hour later, Shen Dong met Richards George in the office of the Director of Transport.

This is an old man with gray hair. He is sixty years old this year and will retire in six months.

In the mid-1980s, most of the senior government officials in Hong Kong were foreigners.

It wasn't until the late 1980s that people on Hong Kong Island gradually gained power.

Richards George glanced at Shen Dong and said calmly, "Shen, you only have five minutes. What is it? Speak quickly."

“I do have something I would like to ask Mr. George.”

As he spoke, Shen Dong placed a bearer check for ten million Hong Kong dollars on Richards George's desk.

Richards George's eyes lit up, a glint of greed in them, and he said, "Chen, you've got some nerve, daring to bribe me in my office."

That being said, Richards George covered the check with a document.

Shen Dong was overjoyed, knowing there was a chance, and said, "Mr. George, I plan to open a taxi company and buy two hundred licenses. I wonder if you could help me with that?"

"My God!"

Richards George slapped his forehead and said, "Sigh, the Transport Department only issued 250 licenses this year, and you want 200? That's impossible. If I sell them to you, I'll definitely be invited for tea by the Independent Commission Against Corruption."

Shen Dong smiled and said, "Mr. George, I have considered your difficulties and have also thought of a way to help you deal with the Independent Commission Against Corruption."

Richards George said, "Tell me about it."

Shen Dong said, "First of all, I will buy two hundred licenses at a price of HK$200,000 each, and I will definitely not owe a single penny."

"Secondly, my taxi company is willing to donate 20 percent of its profits each year to the Queen's Charitable Foundation."

"With this perfectly legitimate reason, do you think the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will still invite you for tea?"

Richards George raised an eyebrow, laughed heartily, and said, "That's indeed a good idea. I'm only selling you the license because of your donation; no one can say no to that."

Shen Dong asked, "Mr. George, do you agree?"

Richards George said, “Of course. If we’re going to do it, let’s do it thoroughly. I’ll give you all 250 licenses this year.”

Shen Dong stood up and said, "Mr. George, the bearer check for five million will be delivered shortly."

Richards George smiled broadly and said, "Shen, I really like you."

Shen Dong said, "Thank you. Mr. George, this is business, so I won't invite you to dinner privately."

Richards George nodded and said with satisfaction, "You've thought of everything."

The two chatted for a while longer before Shen Dong took his leave.

Richards George personally saw him out the door.

“Ahua, when you come to pick up the license, bring George a bearer check for five million.”

In the car, Shen Dong said calmly.

Ahua exclaimed, "Brother Dong, you've got it done?"

Shen Dong nodded and said, "George is even more greedy than I imagined. He has decided to hand over all 250 licenses to us. The price we paid was HK$15 million, and we will donate 20% of our profits to the Queen's Charitable Foundation every year."

Ahua did the math and said, "This money was well spent."

Shen Dong laughed and said, "Of course it's worth it. Once the taxi company is established, we will only rent it out and not sell it. The rent will be HK$20,000 per month."

“After deducting taxes and charitable donations, we make a profit of five million a month and can recoup our costs in a year. It’s an absolutely fantastic business.”

Ahua asked, "Brother Dong, where will the money come from?"

Shen Dong frowned and said, "First, mortgage my investment company, houses, nightclubs, bars, KTVs and other assets to the bank, and then launder the dirty money we robbed as soon as possible."
