As a tenant, despite her and Mrs. Zhu's constant clashes, she'd always lend a helping hand to the landlord in need. Of course, Jiao Jie is also quite "narcissistic," haha, often causing quite a few laughs during blind dates.
The success and endearing portrayal of a rural woman is a testament to the meticulous planning of the production team and the superb acting skills of the actress herself. Wu Sumei, who plays Jiao Jie, hails from Jiangmen and is the former head of the Guangdong Comedy Troupe. In real life, she is quite different from her on-screen persona; she is very elegant, speaks fluent Mandarin, and is fluent in over ten Cantonese dialects. Many of her costumes in the play were purchased by herself during her rural performances. When performing in "The Outsider," she even personally coordinated her own costumes and headdresses, demonstrating her considerable dedication.
Times change, but classics live on forever! The characters in the play are like a cross-section of humanity, and we can all find a bit of ourselves in them; many of the plots and stories are still worth savoring and appreciating.
