Chapter 460: Altdorf
The locals were more enthusiastic than those in Middenheim. Lynch ran into several parades after walking for a while.
Like a tooth with cavities, from the outside, Altdorf still looks as magnificent as before, but after entering the city, everyone can see the renovations that are being done inside, as well as the decay that has yet to be renovated.
Many courtyards and small buildings are about to collapse, and busy craftsmen can be seen everywhere. It is unlikely that repainting alone can save the dilapidated buildings in Altdorf.
Lynch had to rely on supernatural powers to bypass the streets - it was even more crowded here than Middenheim. If order was still there, the road would still be passable, but all kinds of demonstrators messed up everything.
Angry residents stood shoulder to shoulder, holding plaques or banners.
Some people asked Emperor Magnus to immediately start a purge of imperial officials after the war, while others hoped that the prices of certain fruits and vegetables would fall.
It is no exaggeration to say that other claims could fill up a whole billboard. Billboards on the streets are already plastered with advertisements for all sorts of "claims and theories".
Most of the Aldau people are eager to establish a new order, make the capital different, and make the future better.
This is what Lynch saw of these people.
Even if their claims were implemented, it would not necessarily make Altdorf better - their claims had countless conflicting parts, so whose "bright" future should be implemented? It was really hard to be the emperor of mankind.
The citizens passing by on the street all looked very strange. Lynch was not sure whether it was the influence of the guide stone or some other unknown force that was disrupting everything.
The driver cursed and waved his whip, demanding that anyone who blocked his way move out of the way.
The nobles were almost jogging when they walked. Who knew what imperial affairs they were going to attend to? The scholars carrying books seemed to be being chased, like soldiers carrying out a secret mission.
The haggling is short and intense, with shoppers switching stores after just two or three sentences, and the storekeepers mechanically explaining the merchandise, giving the same string of responses no matter who the visitor is.
Even the dogs on the street were particularly irritable, stray cats would suddenly become neurotic and their fur would stand up against the cracks in the wall, and dogs would bark wildly at the sewers for no apparent reason - Lynch could understand the animals' irritability, and he also noticed the abnormality hidden in the dark.
A string of sparks inadvertently fell into the sewer through the manhole cover.
It is reported that the aroma of meat is always lingering in the northern city of Altdorf today.
Eugen was still immersed in a certain sentimentality. Lynch initially thought it was because of Tigris, but after passing by a wizard's shop and exchanging the magic materials on his body for imperial currency, the sadness on his face disappeared.
Perhaps he was mourning the money he had left in the carriage.
"The best inn! The best inn in Altdorf! Perhaps you are looking for a place to stay, sir."
As if they smelled the scent of money, the brokers who were promoting their places of stay came rushing over and surrounded Eugen who had just walked out of the store, talking in a flurry.
Several pairs of hands as skilled as Eugen's also quietly reached into the oracle's pockets. Even without Lynch's reminder, he skillfully distanced himself from the crowd and made a sword-drawing gesture to scare away the thieves.
He was no innocent newcomer, and anyone who entered Altdorf without vigilance might come out with nothing but their trousers.
Some people recommended Eugen to go to a nightclub next to King's Square, which is close to the food street.
Other brokers, not wanting to be outdone, cited the advantages of other hotels. Different people represented different hotels and kept touting the advantages of that hotel.
After the would-be thieves had retreated, the brokers diligently tried to carry Eugen's luggage, if he had any.
Whoever strikes first will undoubtedly have the advantage, as they can lure the travelers to their own inn.
The other brokers obviously would not sit idly by and watch what happened, so a quarrel naturally broke out.
While they were clenching their fists and about to fight, Eugen followed Lynch, who was silently climbing over the roof, and fled the scene.
"His" suitcase remained where it was, until another wizard hurried back from the crowd, and then the suitcase found its angry owner.
Changes and unpredictable accidents always favor Altdorf. After walking in the city for half a day, Lynch was sure that the mastermind behind the scenes was Tzeentch, not the Guidestone.
The power of Tzeentch affects Altdorf at all times, and will not shift until He has His sights set on it.
There will be no change until the end of the world.
Eugen felt a nagging, gnawing sense of uneasiness, which would only materialize in the form of minor accidents and would hardly endanger human life.
This is a fairly large city that is worth a week's visit, but for safety reasons it is better to leave early.
The river divides the entire city into three parts. The south bank can only be reached by boat from the dock area in the north city. Those who like to walk can try to go around to the bridge. Crossing the Rick River is not a pleasant experience. Lynch sensed the carnivorous creatures ready to move below while swimming.
It is estimated that the Rick River will boil at night, and Lynch would not be surprised even if the trolls came ashore.
For Aldorf, one or two monsters are probably not a threat.
Along the way, Lynch saw nearly thirty knights' bases.
There are also some newly established knightly orders that are expanding their bases.
Compared to the north, the south is more majestic because the royal palace and the huge zoo are located on the south bank.
A dragon was imprisoned in the Imperial Menagerie, and Lynch had heard its roar.
It seemed to be accustomed to the comfort in the zoo. There was no brutality or cruelty in its roar, but rather a sense of laziness and perfunctoriness.
The Great Temple of Ulric and the Temple of Sigmar are both on the south bank, and a line of noble mansions guard the imperial palace.
Moll had more than one cemetery in Altdorf, the largest of which was on the west side, on a hill in the center of the cemetery crossroads, where there were many Ostermark immigrants.
There were also execution grounds and courts, separated from the imperial palace by a square where celebrations were still being held.
It is said that a military parade will soon take place in Altdorf because the army that marched south to Sylvania has won the final victory and the emperor is on his way back.
There was a base built near the square by the Knights of Goddess Verena. Lin Qi was not sure until he saw the logo of "Knights of Eternal Light".
It was like a fortress in a city, with many people who looked like lawyers and judges coming and going in the Knights' residence.
Perhaps because Verena's faith has taken root here, in most of the restaurants and offices seen on Lynch Road, there are a few legal personnel arguing fiercely. I hope they can calm down in court, or at least not be as violent as they are now.
