Chapter 152: Fruit and Tree
The dwarf's gong-like mumbling broke the witch hunter's meditation.
The longbeard discovered a path that led to the beach.
From a distance, the dense vegetation covered half of the road, and there seemed to be something wrong with the mangroves along the road.
Before Sorian could make up his mind, Lynch rushed out of the colonial town and stepped onto the gravel road surrounded by mangroves.
In just a breath of time, the town disappeared behind Lynch.
The treetops blocked out the moonlight, but fortunately the lizardmen could see in the dark.
Gradually, Lynch discovered the fruits hanging among the branches.
They maintained the same expressions as they had when they were alive; some seemed to be dozing, while others seemed to be talking to others.
But they were forever frozen in that moment.
Human heads are dotted in the mangroves, extending from in front of Lin Qi to the distance. The densely packed heads are all staring at the guests on the road.
It seems that the great wizard's guess was not entirely correct. Not everyone became a test subject, or perhaps this was also part of the experiment.
Lynch approached the heads, lit the scepter, and carefully observed their appearance in the sunlight.
Each head grew on the tree trunk, and Lynch did not find any gaps in the stitching.
There were people of both old and young, but no children who were too young. Similarly, there were far more men than women.
This is normal. It is difficult for the old and weak to survive in the new world.
Just as Lynch was about to pick a fruit from the tree, the human head on the tree suddenly looked at the lizard man, and then more human heads cast their gazes over.
They didn't seem to welcome Lynch's arrival, but Lynch didn't care about their opinions.
A sound of breaking air was heard, dust was raised on the gravel road, and the roots of the tree broke out of the ground and hit Lynch hard.
The scepter cut through the air at an extremely fast speed, cutting off the tree roots faster than the roots could swing.
On the trees on the left side of the road, human heads showed expressions of pain. The shrill screams woke Lynch's ears and alarmed other people who were rushing over from afar.
Lynch nimbly dodged the dozens of tentacles that came one after another, broke through the roots that blocked him like a fishing net, and approached the thick tree trunk.
Kotego's scepter emitted a dazzling arc of light, and he chopped off the tree trunk with ease.
The tree trunk fell heavily to the ground, dragging along screams of people of all ages, but there were many strange trees like this, and Lynch only cut off one of them.
Roars of shock and anger rang out in the dense forest, and countless voices overlapped to form a low roar like a war drum.
Roots of various sizes kept hitting the earth, leaving numerous scars on the unfortunate earth.
Lynch moved nimbly among the roots. The tree roots could not whip the entire ground in an instant, so he took advantage of the different orders of the roots and dodged the rain-like attacks like a dancer.
Even the elves, who are famous for their agility, have to admire Lynch's extraordinary dodging skills.
Lynch leaped among the tentacles, occasionally swinging his staff to chop down the tree roots around him.
The sound of Teclis chanting an incantation was captured by Lynch and also discovered by the human-headed tree approaching Lynch.
Several tentacles stretched out into the distance like snakes, and Lynch took advantage of a lapse in the forest's attack and quickly approached another tung tree.
After the sudden appearance of light, another wailing sounded throughout the rainforest. The tree trunks slowly fell down, and other animated plants no longer dared to fight against the wizard.
But if they don't interfere with the wizard, they will eventually be buried in the sea of fire.
Lynch found a gap among the dense tree roots and suddenly spurted out a mouthful of acid, which landed on the low bottle-flower tree in the distance.
However, the acid did not have a very good effect on the plant. It only corroded one of its fruits, while making the other two fruits that were splashed by the acid look painful.
Lynch approached a tall coconut tree again. Where the coconuts should have grown, there were only ten fat human heads.
Just as Lynch was about to swing his staff to cut it off, a human head suddenly fell and exploded in mid-air like a bomb.
After the roar, blood and white mixed together and splashed all over Lynch.
Blood and brain matter wrapped around Lynch stickily, as if they had life too, strangling Lynch's body tightly.
But their power is too weak. If it were humans, they would die from the unexpected blood strangulation. However, the lizardmen are indifferent to this level of power.
Lynch paused for a moment in surprise, then swung his stick to block the roots that were pulled out by other trees.
He took the opportunity to use his scepter to cut off the tentacles and cut through the trunk of the coconut tree with great force.
Thick blood replaced the sap and splashed on the soil that had been turned over several times by the roots.
The gravel road has disappeared, and the roots of the trees are roaming like snakes, destroying everything except the trees.
The originally quiet forest turned into a haunted place. Lynch could hear the roar of the dwarves behind him and the distorted prayers of humans.
Lynch didn't have to wait too long. Teclis seized the opportunity and completed the strategic-level fire magic.
A ball of blazing flames burst out from the woods, the roar of its birth drowning out the screams and curses of the woods.
The horrific fire storm engulfed the jungle in the blink of an eye, including Lynch who was fighting in it.
Ashes filled the area of the burning wood, and no roots left to whip it forward because they had all become fuel for the flames.
The human head was burned dry of flesh and blood, leaving only the skull that kept opening and closing.
The flames spread over several miles before slowly dissipating.
A new path briefly appeared in the jungle, and Lynch, whose pressure was suddenly relieved, turned around and reunited with his teammates.
"Gronnie, I thought you didn't like burning trees. This reminds me of the land after the cannons roared at Rapid Pass."
Sorian laughed at Teclis and made a crude gesture to the embers that were blown by the night wind.
"That's Eslai. The elves are now split into several forces with different ideas."
The dwarf did not understand Ledin's explanation. He could not comprehend why the ancient race was divided into three.
In his opinion, both Eslai and Druzie were Asur who once had diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Mountains.
He could only mistakenly understand the division of the elves as the gap between different city-states of the dwarves, but in fact it was not the case.
In fact, only a very small number of dwarves know that the elves are no longer the elves they were thousands of years ago.
A group of explorers strode on the ashes and walked along the scorched earth towards the sea.
Lynch suspected that there was something abnormal going on on the beach, and if left unchecked it would only exacerbate the abnormalities.
The hot-blooded people can just leave, but sooner or later the jungle will let its residents encounter its own bad side.
Lynch has to increase the threat of that vampire. If allowed to develop, it will sooner or later become the second Luther Harken and create a second Vampire Coast.
Fortunately, the vampire doesn't seem to be good at building power and is still engaged in small-scale fighting to this day.
According to the dwarves and humans, the legend of the "Orphan Maker" has been circulating for nearly a hundred years, which means that vampires have been developing for hundreds of years.
