Chapter Twenty-Nine

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Cheng Xiangbei's ring was met with ridicule from everyone, but he didn't care and wore it happily.

Lu Nan's price tag was neatly hidden inside her collar, unnoticed by anyone. However, such things can't be hidden forever. One day during class, the tag slipped out of her collar, dazzling Yun Shao's eyes. Ignoring that it was Teacher Shen's class, Yun Shao grabbed it. Lu Nan screamed in fright, and Teacher Shen's sharp eyes swept over in an instant.

Yun Shao quietly made a gesture, and Teacher Shen paused for a moment before turning back to continue writing on the blackboard.

"Hey, what's this?" Yun Shao asked curiously.

"Tiger made it for me." Lu Nan smiled, her eyes crinkling, as she rubbed the small sign in her hand.

Yun Shao watched Lu Nan tuck the price tag into his collar, his eyes filled with undisguised envy. Shen Yunzhao, seeing his brother's undisguised gaze, secretly began to plot.

In the evening, a student was summoned to a teacher's dormitory. The teacher, like a precious treasure, presented a large platinum pendant to his beloved student. The student, stunned, pointed to the object, which was twice the size of Lu Nan's token of love, and stiffly asked, "What is this?" The teacher exclaimed in surprise, "Huh? Doesn't your baby like these? Look, I even had someone engrave something on it!"

A student glared angrily at a teacher, "Hey! That was made by their lover! It's meaningful, okay? Look at what you've made! It's tacky, ridiculously big, and it'll be a laughing stock if someone wears it!"

A teacher looked at her baby with a mournful expression and said in a spoiled manner: I don't care, the baby has to wear it since I bought it, or I'll cry for you!

"Aren't you ashamed?!" a student angrily exclaimed.

No matter what, I don't care! I have to give a return gift! I absolutely have to give a return gift!

Die!

The next day, Ms. Shen, who always paid great attention to her appearance, rudely rolled up her sleeves.

Previously clean wrists now had a dark, smudged patch. The students in the front row took a closer look and burst out laughing. Those in the back, unable to see clearly, strained to see...

Teacher Shen didn't seem to care and continued lecturing with boundless enthusiasm. At certain points, he kept waving his arms. The black ring on his wrist moved up and down with his gestures, and the students kept looking up and down, some even running from the back to the front to get a better look at what that weird thing on his wrist was.

"Pfft, haha..." The bolder boy finally saw it clearly and laughed so hard he bent over as he returned to his seat. "Teacher, what time is it now?"

Mr. Shen gestured for a pause, raised his wrist, and looked at the "watch" with great seriousness. Indeed, a watch drawn with a black ballpoint pen had appeared on his wrist—the kind of standard drawing adults used to trick children when they were kids. "Ahem..." Mr. Shen cleared his throat and said in a clear voice, "It's Beijing time, exactly nine o'clock in the morning."

"Pfft, hahaha..." The classroom erupted in laughter. Someone pointed at Teacher Shen and exclaimed, "Teacher, you're so poor! You even had to draw your own watch!"

Teacher Shen raised her eyebrows smugly and wiggled her index finger from side to side. "You don't understand." After saying that, she gave her wrist a quick kiss and continued lecturing with a smile.

The laughter from the audience hadn't subsided. Shen Yunshao covered her face, groaned, and buried her head in her books. It was so embarrassing.

Cheng Xiangbei was constantly worried. Ever since he entered his senior year of high school, he had never been able to put his mind at ease.

He was certain he would get into university; his grades had always been consistently high. The only thing that worried him was what kind of university Lu Nan would apply to. This was indeed a problem; academically, he was a step behind Lu Nan, despite their different talents. Because he was constantly worrying about this, he suffered from unusual insomnia before the college entrance exam.

Lu's mother noticed his unusual behavior and asked him what was wrong. This time, Cheng Xiangbei didn't hide anything and directly asked Lu's mother which school Nannan wanted to apply to. Lu's mother looked at him with surprise and said, "Huh? Why are you asking me this? Nannan said he'll definitely apply to the same school as you!"

Cheng Xiangbei breathed a sigh of relief. However, after the painful separation during the high school entrance exam, he was still uneasy. Lu Nan seemed to have heard about this from her mother and sent him three text messages. The first: Trust me. The second: Wait for me. The third: Let's be together. Cheng Xiangbei pressed his phone to his chest, finally calming down.

Walking out of the college entrance examination hall felt like waking from a dream.

Years of hard work ended in just two days. Cheng Xiangbei stood at the school gate, feeling a little dizzy. He didn't want to do anything; he just wanted to see Lu Nan and then go home to sleep.

Lu's parents were very busy at the time, so Lu Nan was simply dumped at the Cheng family's house. Cheng Xiangbei's new bed was huge; the two of them slept comfortably without feeling cramped. They slept for two whole days, and when they woke up, they looked at each other in disbelief. Graduation already?

Okay, okay, let's accept reality! The Lu family parents are both seasoned veterans of the senior year education battle, so they can completely handle their children's college application process. Lu Nan has no other requests, he just wants to be with Cheng Xiangbei. Lu's mother jokingly scolds her son for still needing a nanny even though he's so old, without ever thinking anything deeper.

The waiting was agonizing, but Lu Nan was alright; she spent her days sitting in front of the TV eating fruit, living a carefree life. Cheng Xiangbei, however, was restless, his anxious state making him jump around like a monkey. Finally, Cheng's father couldn't stand it anymore and enrolled both kids in driving school, kicking them out of school.

Cheng Xiangbei can drive. How many teenagers aren't interested in cars?

A long time ago, he secretly asked Uncle Li to teach him. He could already drive a car smoothly without going to driving school. But if he wanted to get a driver's license, he couldn't do it without going to driving school. So he went, and it was a good thing to be able to learn systematically.

Surprisingly, Lu Nan, usually a lazy and laid-back guy, became incredibly energetic the moment he sat in the driver's seat! His eyes shone brightly, his rear end bounced wildly, and he drove like he was flying a plane. The driving instructor, seeing Lu Nan's reckless driving, couldn't help but tremble at the corners of his mouth. "A new generation... a road menace!"

Once you pay the money, you have to teach them, and once they pass the test, you have to get a license. Although Lu Nan drives incredibly fast, he passed both the written and road tests on his first try, much to the instructor's astonishment. What kind of world is this?! For the safety of other drivers, the instructor sincerely suggested that Lu Nan's "family member" should give Lu Nan some serious practice on his driving skills.

The family members, heads bowed in resignation, went to borrow a car from Uncle Li. Uncle Li found them a slightly worn pickup truck and took the two children back to the countryside. The countryside had a network of small roads, in good condition, and sparsely populated. It was the perfect place to practice driving. Every day, the first thing Lu Nan did upon waking was to run to the yard to talk to her beloved car. Cheng Xiangbei glared at that beat-up car, gritting his teeth in hatred! Hey, you haven't given me that good morning kiss yet!

Grandma Lu watched the two children bickering in the yard, and her face lit up with a smile.

Since her husband passed away, her days have become increasingly lonely. Fortunately, her children occasionally come back to talk to her. Seeing her grandson's happy face, Grandma Lu's steps become much lighter. She cheerfully went to prepare breakfast for the children.

After breakfast, the two planned to go for a drive. Before they even set off, the phone rang. It was news from the Lu family that their acceptance letters had arrived. Before Lu Nan could react, Cheng Xiangbei rushed into the house to pack his things. "Hey, what are you doing?" Lu Nan asked blankly.

Cheng Xiangbei worked non-stop and finished packing their luggage in the blink of an eye. He reached out and hugged Grandma Lu, who was standing in the main room, and said to Lu Nan, "We have to go back to the city immediately. I need to see it with my own eyes to believe it."

Lu Nan was startled by his flustered attitude. "Is it really necessary to be in such a hurry?" After saying that, Cheng Xiangbei grabbed her hand and pulled her away. Lu Nan hurriedly said goodbye to her grandmother, and when she got into the car, Cheng Xiangbei practically shoved her in.

Grandma Lu watched the car speed away, a kind smile on her face. "That child was so anxious."

Only after receiving the same acceptance letter as Lu Nan did Cheng Xiangbei truly breathe a sigh of relief. The same college, but a different major—exactly their first choice. That's it, he could finally relax. Lu Nan, still dazed from Cheng Xiangbei's antics, slung her unopened luggage back over her shoulder. The adults, seeing the two children come and go, hurriedly called out, "Where are you going?"

Cheng Xiangbei pulled Lu Nan out the door, calling out from afar, "Off on a trip!"

Lu Nan didn't believe his nonsense and followed his footsteps while asking, "Hey, where are we going?"

Cheng Xiangbei laughed heartily, then whispered in Lu Nan's ear, "Let's find a secluded place and do what we love."
