Chapter 219 Everyone's busy with their own things

Fu Lan followed closely behind Xing Zhaozhao, and as they walked towards the door, she said with concern, "Be careful on the way, Sister Xing."

"Don't worry," Xing Zhaozhao said nonchalantly. "If anyone comes looking for me while I'm gone, just tell them I've gone into the mountains."

"Hmm." Fu Lan nodded, but her heart still clenched with anxiety. "Who might be looking for us?"

“Who knows? Aunt Hao might come over for a visit, and Qingshan might come to see you.” Xing Zhaozhao said, turning to look at Fu Lan, whose face was still pale, and comforted her, “Don’t worry, Xiao Lan, just pretend nothing happened. He’s a beast who has harmed so many people. He’s not much better than a wild boar in the mountains. He deserves to die. If he doesn’t die, we will be the ones who die.”

Fu Lan nodded emphatically, a resolute expression on her face: "Yes, I understand. Sister Xing, don't worry, I'll take good care of the house and the three little ones."

"Then I'll have to trouble you," Xing Zhaozhao said with a smile.

The two of them had just come out of the house when they saw Hongfei sweeping the yard with a broom. He swept very carefully, as if afraid of missing something. Black General was curled up in its little nest not far from him, looking listless. Chen Dachuan's attack might have hurt it badly, and they wondered if it could survive.

"What are you doing, Hongfei?" Xing Zhaozhao asked in surprise.

"Mom." Hongfei ran to Xing Zhaozhao as soon as he saw her. "I'm sweeping the floor. Didn't that bad guy break a toy model? I quickly cleaned it up so no one would see it."

Looking at Hongfei, who was so sensible, Xing Zhaozhao couldn't help but feel sorry for him. She said, "Didn't I tell you to stay in the house and keep your younger siblings company? You were hit by a bad guy just now, you must still be in pain, right?"

"It's all over now, look, it doesn't hurt at all." Hongfei stretched his arm to show Xing Zhaozhao. "Little Feather is helping to watch over my sister, that's enough."

After saying that, Hongfei was afraid that his mother would continue to ask questions, so he quickly changed the subject.

He glanced at the things Xing Zhaozhao was carrying on her shoulder, his pupils contracted, and he asked, "What is Mom going to do?"

Xing Zhaozhao didn't intend to explain too clearly to the child, and casually replied, "Mom has to go into the mountains."

Although Hongfei was young, he knew a lot. Even though she didn't say it explicitly, he quickly understood her plan. With a serious little face, he nodded solemnly and said, "Mom, don't worry. I will take good care of my younger brother and sister, as well as Aunt Xiaolan."

Fu Lan was stunned for a moment: "..." Wait a minute, after Xing Zhaozhao leaves, she is clearly the eldest one, so why does she need you, little one, to watch over her?

Xing Zhaozhao smiled and patted Hongfei's head: "Then I'll have to trouble you."

"Mm." Hongfei nodded.

She was going to go all out, even though Xing Zhaozhao wasn't entirely sure if someone would come and bump into her today. But when she left, she still carried her basket on her back, just in case.

Although they lived in a remote area, people would occasionally come up the mountain. Before leaving, Hongfei went out for a walk to make sure there was no one around. Only then did Xing Zhaozhao carry the person out the door quietly and head up the mountain.

As soon as Xing Zhaozhao left, Fu Lan and Hongfei quickly closed the door tightly.

"I'll go inside and tidy up," Fu Lan said.

“I’ll go check the cellar,” Hongfei said.

After saying that, the two parted ways and went about their own business.

Inside the room, there was blood on the kang (a heated brick bed) where Chen Dachuan had just been lying. Fortunately, it wasn't much. The kang had been covered with a thick quilt to make it easier for Xiao Hongling to roll around. Fu Lan decisively lifted the blood-stained quilt, rolled it up, and stuffed it into the kang hole, planning to burn it later.

When Hongfei arrived at the cellar, he frowned as he looked at the mess inside.

After thinking for a moment, he simply cleared out the basket that originally held the sweet potatoes, packed all the things Xing Zhaozhao had brought back from there into it, and covered them with sweet potatoes to disguise them. In the future, even if someone accidentally broke into their cellar, they wouldn't have to worry about them seeing things they shouldn't see.

After tidying up, Hongfei walked around the cellar to make sure that nothing could be seen from it before nodding in satisfaction and turning to leave.

After he came out, he made sure to lock the cellar door securely, ensuring double protection before leaving with peace of mind.

When Hongfei returned to the front yard, he saw Fu Lan squatting in front of Black General's little nest, gently stroking Black General with heartache. He walked over and squatted down beside her.

"This little guy seems to be badly injured," Fu Lan said worriedly.

"How about I take it to the clinic and ask Aunt Ding to take a look?" Hongfei thought for a moment and said.

Aunt Ding, whom Hongfei mentioned, is the doctor at the team's clinic.

"Shouldn't doctors at the clinic only treat patients?" Fu Lan asked, somewhat embarrassed.

"Humans and dogs should be pretty much the same, right?" Hongfei said after a moment's hesitation.

Fu Lan: "..." Humans and dogs are worlds apart, how are they even similar?

“Last time I heard Gao Xiaoniu say that Aunt Ding went to the next village to help a cow that couldn’t give birth to a calf. She just pulled the calf out by its two legs. She’s really amazing. Cows aren’t people, and if she can treat them, she can definitely treat a dog without any problem,” Hongfei said.

Fu Lan: "??"

Fu Lan had lost the strength to think. Fine, whatever you say goes.

"Wait a little longer, ask your mother when she gets back," Fu Lan said.

"That's fine too." Hongfei reluctantly nodded in agreement.

General Black was so badly injured by the bad guys because of them. Hongfei couldn't bear to see it lying there all alone, so he carefully picked up the little guy: "I'll take it inside and keep it company with Little Feather."

Fu Lan nodded and was about to follow them: "I'm going to see Xiao Hongling."

Just as the two reached the entrance of the bathhouse, a knocking sound suddenly rang out from outside.

Someone is coming.

Their hearts skipped a beat simultaneously. They glanced at each other, their faces showing wariness.

Xing Zhaozhao had warned before she left that someone might come, and to her surprise, someone actually did. She just didn't know who it was. She hoped it would be Aunt Hao or Qingshan, since they were all in the same line of work and she wouldn't have to worry too much.

"I'll go open the door." Fu Lan, filled with trepidation, walked towards the front door and asked, "Who is it?"

"It's me, Xiaolan." Old Mrs. Qin's voice came from outside the door.

Upon hearing this, Fu Lan immediately felt relieved. It didn't matter if it was Old Madam Qin.

Without saying a word, she reached out and opened the door, a smile on her face, and asked, "Grandma Qin, what brings you here?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Fu Lan's smile froze instantly when she saw the two unfamiliar men beside Old Madam Qin: "Who are you?"
