Fearing that the police might suddenly come knocking on his door, Liu Feiyue stayed home that night and didn't go anywhere. He even invited two people over to drink with him for half the night as witnesses.
As it grew later and later, most of the people Liu Feiyue had invited to drink had finished their drinks and left. However, Liu Feiyue still hadn't seen the police officers. He couldn't help but wonder if Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang hadn't found an opportunity to make their move and had canceled their plans at the last minute.
Not knowing what the situation was with Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang, Liu Feiyue didn't dare to go to them rashly, so he had to hold back for the time being and go back to his room to sleep, planning to talk about it again when it was light.
With something on his mind, Liu Feiyue tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep. Just as dawn was breaking, he could no longer lie still and got up.

He casually stuffed the gold bracelet into his pocket and continued, "Just this? What about the horse? You didn't bring it with you."
“Brother, you originally had your eye on that horse. We couldn’t possibly leave out the others, let alone this one,” Liu Erxi said, patting his chest. “It’s in the usual spot. We just came to ask you to take it to the mountains and hide it together. We have to hurry, it’s quite conspicuous.”

Liu Feiyue frowned, his heart, which had just settled, tightening again: "Didn't they report it to the police? That shouldn't be the case. They lost such valuable items as a pair of gold bracelets, how could they act like nothing happened?"
As he spoke, Liu Feiyue paused, looked at Liu Erxi, and asked again, "Have you checked on Dong Cang? What's the situation?"
Liu Erxi shook his head: "After we got the goods, we came back as soon as possible. We didn't go to Dong Cang's place to avoid any complications."
"That's true." Liu Feiyue nodded in agreement. However, he didn't know the specifics of the situation and felt uneasy, as if something was about to happen.
Seeing Liu Feiyue's hesitation, Liu Erxi tentatively asked, "How about I go and check on Dong Cang now?"
Liu Feiyue hesitated for a moment, then shook his head and said, "Forget it, let's go into the mountains first and hide the things. As long as we can't find them, it won't matter if the security team suspects us."
Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang nodded in unison.
Just then, there was a knock on the door, a weak "knock knock," sounding furtive.
Liu Feiyue's eyes flashed, and he went over and opened the door a crack.
Dong Cang slipped in through the crack in the door like an eel.
"Brother Liu." He called out to Liu Feiyue, then saw Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang. He rubbed his hands excitedly and asked, "Second Brother and Third Brother are here too. You should have gotten those gold bracelets by now, right? Can I take a look?"
Liu Feiyue took out the pair of gold bracelets from his pocket and casually tossed them over: "Did the police from the Public Security Bureau come looking for you?" Otherwise, he wouldn't have been so sure that he had the gold bracelets.
Dong Cang was startled, afraid that he might fall, and quickly caught him with both hands: "Yes. I was still asleep in bed last night when they suddenly came to my door."
Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang looked at him nervously: "What happened next?"
"What else could they do? They left. I stayed home all night last night, there was no way I could have gone to town to steal anything. The police saw they couldn't find anything, so they went back." Dong Cang chuckled smugly. "I saw that Captain Lin's face turn black when he left, like his mother had died. I guess they won't be able to find anything out of him."
Liu Feiyue and the other two felt a sense of relief upon hearing this.
Dong Cang lovingly stroked the pair of gold bracelets, then suddenly opened his mouth to bite them.
Seeing that things were going badly, Liu Feiyue quickly snatched the pair of gold bracelets back: "Why are you biting them? They're real gold, there's no mistake. Trust my eyes, such a beautiful design, if you bite it and ruin it, it won't fetch a good price."
Dong Cang looked regretfully at the gold bracelet that Liu Feiyue had taken, and suddenly didn't know what to say.
Liu Feiyue glanced at Dong Cang, reassuring him, and said, "Don't worry, once I find a chance to sell these gold bracelets, you won't be shortchanged."
Dong Cang smiled excitedly and said, "Thank you, Brother Liu. I trust you."
Liu Feiyue stuffed the gold bracelet back into his pocket and asked Dong Cang, "When the people from the Public Security Brigade came to see you, they only questioned you about the gold bracelet, but didn't mention the horse?"
Dong Cang shook his head: "He didn't mention it."
Liu Feiyue frowned, his unease returning: "Why? Such a large horse is gone too. The Fu family should have noticed. Could they be plotting something else?"
Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang also looked solemn.
"They probably just don't care," Dong Cang said dismissively. "A horse you picked up by the roadside is gone, so what? Could it be more important than losing a pair of gold bracelets?"
Liu Feiyue and the other two exchanged bewildered glances. It seemed that it really was true; perhaps they had indeed been overthinking things.
All three of them were completely relieved.
"Let's head into the mountains now," Liu Feiyue said, looking at Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang. Just as Erxi said, that tricolor horse was too conspicuous; it would be better to hide it quickly.
Lu Xuemei covered her mouth tightly with both hands, hiding in the house, watching Liu Feiyue lead Liu Erxi, Liu Sanchang, and Dong Cang out the door. She was so frightened that she trembled and her face turned pale.
After Liu Feiyue got up, she tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall back asleep, so she went out as well. Unexpectedly, she saw Liu Feiyue talking to Liu Erxi and Liu Sanchang, and the things he said terrified her.
She knew that Liu Feiyue had been sneaking around and acting suspiciously for the past two years, as if he wasn't doing anything good. But she was just guessing. She never expected it to be true. If he were caught, what would happen to her and her daughter?
