Xing Zhaozhao returned home with a large bag of things.
Hongfei and Hongyu immediately gathered around curiously and asked, "What is this, Mom? Did your godparents give it to you?"
Xing Zhaozhao shook her head: "Jia Shu and Jia Ping had their uncle bring these to you from the capital."
"Jia Shu (cousin) and Jia Ping (cousin)?!" Hong Fei and Hong Yu's eyes lit up, and they cheered and eagerly reached out to take the items and open them.
The food and fun things that Xing Jiashu and Xing Jiaping found in Beijing were all things they wanted to share. They were thinking of their good brothers whom they couldn't see for the time being, so they asked their uncle, Chen Hao, to bring them over.
Although Hongfei and Hongyu have plenty of good food and fun things to do now, they were still very happy to receive gifts from their cousins in Beijing.
Hongyu blew a wooden whistle and asked Xing Zhaozhao, "Mom, Cousins Jiashu and Jiaping gave us gifts. Shouldn't we give them back?"
Upon hearing this, Hongfei looked at Xing Zhaozhao with anticipation. They also had something good they wanted to share with their cousins whom they hadn't seen in a long time.
Xing Zhaozhao thought for a moment, nodded, and said, "That's fine, but you know the rules." Things that are inconvenient to take out cannot be touched.
"Understood." Hongfei and Hongyu nodded in unison, responding loudly. Then, they giggled happily, held hands, and ran to the cellar to prepare gifts for Xing Jiashu and Xing Jiaping.
"What a coincidence that we ran into your sister-in-law's brother today?" Fu Lan, knowing that Xing Zhaozhao had a sister-in-law in the capital, walked over with Xiao Hongling in her arms and asked with a smile.
Xing Zhaozhao's smile froze for a moment. She reached out and hugged Xiao Hongling, saying, "There are even more coincidences, you don't know."
"Is there anything else?" Fu Lan looked at Xing Zhaozhao with bright, curious eyes.
“When your sister came over before, didn’t she say that the Chen family was planning to find their relative who was a high-ranking official in the capital? When he actually came, I was there when I was taking my godparents back, and I happened to see him leading the Chen family out and throwing my uncle’s family out.” Xing Zhaozhao said, giving Fu Lan a deep look, and asked, “Guess who that person was?”
Xing Zhaozhao had already put it this way, so Fu Lan couldn't help but guess, her face showing undisguised surprise: "Your sister-in-law's brother?"
Xing Zhaozhao nodded: "My eldest uncle knows that my brother married the daughter of a high-ranking official in the capital, and he even dragged her into it to promote his son."

“Who says otherwise?” Xing Zhaozhao said with a smile, but then her smile quickly vanished as she thought of something. “That family initially relied on Lin Wan’s desire to take half of the Chen family’s house. But when they heard that Lin Wan’s criminal evidence was conclusive and that she would be executed, and that it might implicate them, they quickly severed ties with Lin Wan and ran away. They’re really pragmatic; their conscience has been eaten by dogs.”
Fu Lan was shocked: "Wan... she's going to be executed."
Xing Zhaozhao nodded: "Mm."
"What about Chen Dachuan?" Fu Lan asked.
Xing Zhaozhao's expression froze, and she didn't know how to talk to her for a moment.
Fu Lan's heart sank; she sensed something was wrong. Looking at Xing Zhaozhao, her voice trembled slightly: "Sister Xing?"
"They said they couldn't find any evidence of his involvement and he'll be released soon without charge," Xing Zhaozhao said in a low voice.
Fu Lan looked on incredulously: "How...how could this be? It was that Chen family member from Beijing who saved Chen Dachuan?"
Xing Zhaozhao said with a stern face, "If he says he can't protect you, then the evidence is insufficient."
Fu Lan's face turned pale, and she trembled involuntarily: "That man is very vengeful. If he gets out, won't he come looking for revenge on us?"
Seeing that Fu Lan's expression was not right, Xing Zhaozhao patted her shoulder reassuringly and said, "Don't worry, even if he is released, he won't dare to cause trouble since the incident just happened." She paused and then smiled, "Even if he does come, I'm here with you, Sister Xing. Don't worry, I can take on two of them without any problem, let alone just one."
Fu Lan felt relieved and nodded with a smile: "Mm."
Fu Lan appeared to be fine, but she was still somewhat affected. She hadn't slept well for several days, and her eyes were dark and swollen.
Xing Zhaozhao didn't know how to comfort her for a moment, so she could only let her figure it out on her own.
A few more days passed, and the surroundings remained peaceful. With the day approaching for Xing Zhaozhao to deliver the goods, Fu Lan was busy making clothes and gradually forgot about the matter.
In the courtyard in front of the Public Security Brigade in Qingxi Town, Chen Hao, dressed in a crisp military uniform, stood waiting for someone.
A short while later, officers in police uniforms led Chen Dachuan out from inside.
Having spent almost half a month in the police station's cell, Chen Dachuan hadn't tidied himself up much. He was disheveled and looked rather wretched. Perhaps because of the repeated interrogations and lack of sleep, his eyes were bloodshot and red. However, he was still in relatively good spirits, always looking at people with a wary and sinister gaze.
Chen Hao took in Chen Dachuan's situation, his eyes flashed, and he looked at the investigators, raising his hand in salute.
The officer returned the salute and said, "The person is now in your possession."
Chen Hao nodded: "Thank you for your hard work."
The investigator said dismissively, "It's only right, it's about serving the people." After saying that, he gave Chen Hao a deep look, his eyes flashing, and then turned and went back.
Chen Hao watched the investigators leave, his eyebrows twitching almost imperceptibly, before turning to Chen Dachuan and saying, "Let's go."
After saying that, he turned and walked out of the Public Security Brigade.
Chen Dachuan followed behind silently.
Ling Xiao led Ling Yongde towards them.
Two of Ling Xiao's men were also implicated in the case and are currently in jail. Because the evidence is conclusive, they probably won't get out.
However, these two people lived in the same village as Ling Xiao, and their elders did not believe that their children would do such a thing, so they repeatedly made trouble for Ling Xiao.
Ling Xiao was driven to desperation and had no choice but to come to the Public Security Brigade from time to time to inquire about the progress of the case and see if there was any possibility of a mistake.
