Xing Zhaozhao turned her head and glanced at Lin Wan's house; the door was tightly closed.
"It seems like no one's home. I'll come back another time," Xing Zhaozhao said casually, and was about to leave.
"No, sister..." Fu Lan wanted to say something, but before she could finish speaking, a man pulling a cart came from the street corner ahead. He was about thirty years old, not tall, thin, with a long face, and was a bit ugly. He had slanted eyes that gleamed with a shrewd light, and he didn't look like a kind person.
Xing Zhaozhao glanced at him, but didn't pay any attention, and walked straight over.
When the man saw Xing Zhaozhao, he first frowned, seemingly about to get angry, but he quickly realized something was wrong. A hint of doubt flashed in his eyes, and then he remembered something and asked with a look of surprise, "You're Awan's cousin, right?"
"Who are you?" Xing Zhaozhao looked at the man, then at the cart of scrap metal he was pulling behind him, and immediately realized who he was. Could it be such a coincidence?
“He is Sister Wan’s lover,” Fu Lan said to Xing Zhaozhao as she walked over.
“Alan is here too.” Chen Dachuan looked at Fu Lan and said with a smile.
Fu Lan glanced timidly at Chen Dachuan and called out softly, "Brother Chen."
She didn't like Chen Dachuan. Every time he looked at her, his eyes were strange, making her very uncomfortable. Wan Jie was much better. It was such a waste that such a good Wan Jie married him.
Chen Dachuan responded with an "Yes," looked at Xing Zhaozhao, and said, "That's right, I am Awan's lover, Chen Dachuan. Cousin, you can just call me Dachuan."
"So you're my cousin's husband." Xing Zhaozhao responded casually, not trying to get close to him.
Chen Dachuan's eyes flickered, but his expression remained unchanged as he smiled at Xing Zhaozhao: "Cousin, are you here to see Awan?"
"Yes, I had some business in town today and knew she lived here, so I stopped by to see her. But I saw your door was closed, so she probably isn't home. I'll come back another time," Xing Zhaozhao said, turning to leave.
Chen Dachuan quickly stepped to the side, blocking her way.
"Cousin, you've misunderstood. The doors are always closed here. Awan has been home the whole time." Chen Dachuan said, and as if afraid Xing Zhaozhao would escape, he immediately shouted twice, "Awan, Awan, come out and see who's here?"
The door to Lin Wan's house creaked open, and Lin Wan came out. Seeing Xing Zhaozhao, she looked surprised and said, "Cousin Zhaozhao? What brings you here?"
Last time she went to Xing Zhaozhao's place for the Chinese New Year, she was kicked out after only a short while. She thought Xing Zhaozhao would never come to her door in her life. She was even thinking of finding some excuse to go to Xing Zhaozhao's place in Xiaogaozhuang again to try and get closer to her. Unexpectedly, Xing Zhaozhao actually came to her door.
Lin Wan's face lit up with an excited smile that she couldn't contain.
Xing Zhaozhao knew she probably couldn't leave for the time being, so she stiffly forced a smile and said, "Oh, I came to see you."
"That's great!" Lin Wan said, pulling Xing Zhaozhao along as they headed home.
Chen Dachuan followed behind with a smile, and asked Fu Lan, "Would you like to come over and sit at my house too, Alan?"
Fu Lan felt a chill run down her spine and quickly ran away, saying, "No, I have to go home. If I don't go back, my sister will be looking for me."
Lin Wan pulled Xing Zhaozhao into the house: "Xia, Qiu, come out and see who's here?"
Xia and Qiu immediately ran out of the house hand in hand. When they saw Xing Zhaozhao, they were both overjoyed and called out in unison, "Auntie!" They liked this auntie, who not only gave them New Year's money but also delicious snacks, although their mother took them all later.
"Yes." Xing Zhaozhao responded, and seeing the expectant eyes of the two children, she gave each of them a penny for pocket money since the things were gone and had been given to the old principal.
Unfortunately, before it could even warm up in their hands, Lin Wan took it away, saying, "It's easy for the children to drop it, so I'm keeping it for them to store."
The two girls were already used to it and didn't seem to care.
Xia looked at Xing Zhaozhao expectantly, still thinking about Hongfei: "Where's my brother? Why didn't he come with us?"
Xing Zhaozhao said with a smile, "He's going to stay home and take care of his younger siblings."
Chen Dachuan had just put the cart back in the yard when he heard "brother, younger brother," which struck a nerve. His eyes were fixed on Xing Zhaozhao, his dark gaze sweeping over her chest, stomach, and buttocks.
Xing Zhaozhao felt a chill run down her spine and abruptly turned to glare at Chen Dachuan.
The deep gaze made Chen Dachuan's heart tremble, and a sense of heat rose within him.
What a fiery woman!
Xing Zhaozhao was disgusted.
"Cousin Zhao Zhao, have some brown sugar water." Lin Wan brought the water over from the kitchen.
Forget about drinking water, Xing Zhaozhao couldn't even sit still anymore. She quickly stood up and said, "No need, I should go. If I go back too late, I won't be able to catch the village tractor back."
After saying that, he immediately turned around and walked out, and Lin Wan couldn't stop him.
"Cousin, you're going back already? Won't you stay a little longer?" Chen Dachuan came over and tried to stop her.
Xing Zhaozhao quickly moved far away; it was too disgusting, she couldn't stand it.
Lin Wan and Chen Dachuan could only watch helplessly as Xing Zhaozhao quickly disappeared from sight.
"It's only the first time we've met, you don't need to be so impatient," Lin Wan nudged Chen Dachuan with her elbow.
"I never expected your cousin to be so alluring," Chen Dachuan said, picking Lin Wan up in his arms and carrying her into the house.
Lin Wan punched him lightly with her little fist: "What are you doing? In broad daylight."
"Help me calm down first," Chen Dachuan said.
"The door isn't closed yet," Lin Wan said.
Chen Dachuan didn't care about any of that now: "Those two girls will be locked up."
The two girls seemed to be used to their parents' sudden passionate encounters. They closed the door, returned to the main room, and stared at the brown sugar water that Xing Zhaozhao hadn't had time to drink yet. They licked their lips, glanced at Lin Wan and Chen Dachuan's room, hesitated for a moment, but ultimately didn't take a sip.
Xing Zhaozhao ran a long way after leaving Dacheng Street before stopping. Thinking of Chen Dachuan's gaze, she couldn't help but shudder. She rubbed her arms, getting goosebumps all over, before finally recovering. She would never come here again.
Just then, a girl of about seventeen or eighteen years old suddenly came towards them. It was a familiar face: Fu Hong.
Fu Hong initially didn't pay attention to Xing Zhaozhao. As they passed each other, she glanced at her casually and stopped in her tracks when she saw the face that looked remarkably similar to Lin Wan's: "Huh?"
Xing Zhaozhao looked at her with a smile: "You're Fu Lan's older sister, right?"
Fu Hong was taken aback: "You know our Fu Lan?"
Xing Zhaozhao nodded: "When I came to find my cousin before, Fu Lan led the way for me. You sisters look quite alike, I recognized you at a glance."
Fu Hong also realized: "Your cousin wouldn't happen to be Sister Wan, would she? No wonder you looked familiar to me at first glance. You and your cousins do look quite alike."
Xing Zhaozhao chuckled, neither admitting nor denying, though she really wanted to deny it.
"I've never seen a girl as pretty as Fu Lan before. Your family needs to keep a close eye on her from now on. If she's kidnapped by someone else, it'll be too late to regret it." Xing Zhaozhao jokingly reminded Fu Hong, then waved to her and left.
Fu Hong turned to look at Xing Zhaozhao's departing figure, but her expression was rather unpleasant.
What does this person mean? They've only met once, and he's already saying things like that to her? Is he cursing their Fu Lan? Or is he plotting something bad?
