Gao Mingcheng and his group of four drove straight to the residential area where Tan Zhe lived. Just as they were about to arrive, they saw an ambulance coming out of the residential area.
"Could this be the ambulance?" Xing Zhaoming asked anxiously.
Gao Mingcheng guessed that was it and immediately told the driver to turn around and follow.
Just as Gao Mingcheng and the others left with the ambulance, Tan Zhe drove out of the residential area and headed straight for the abandoned cellar on the mountain to find Old Lady Tan.
At this moment, Grandma Tan had just arrived at the foot of the mountain in her car.
She was already quite old, and the injuries she had sustained earlier hadn't fully healed because she hadn't rested properly. After a series of strenuous exercises, they were starting to ache again. But she couldn't care less about that now. She endured the pain in her stomach and continued to climb halfway up the mountain, wanting nothing more than to get home as soon as possible.
Finally reaching the halfway point, Grandma Tan looked at the abandoned cellar that was now within reach. Like a little girl, she excitedly skipped and jumped inside. Then, the smile on her face froze instantly.
The wall remained unchanged from all the previous visits she had seen—dusty and covered in moss.
"How could this be? Where's the door? Isn't she already dead? Why is there still no door?" Grandma Tan went crazy, rushing over and frantically searching the wall.
But if it's not there, it's not there.
Grandma Tan collapsed to the ground in despair and burst into tears, crying, "Why? All I wanted was to go home, why is God doing this to me?"
Tan Zhe hurried along the way and finally arrived at the mountainside again. Before he even reached the abandoned cellar, he heard a familiar voice crying in the distance. It was Old Mrs. Tan's voice.
He couldn't help but feel overjoyed. His mother was still alive; she hadn't left. Did that mean she hadn't died and had survived? That was wonderful.
Tan Zhe quickened his pace and soon arrived at the abandoned cellar. Looking at his elderly mother, who was sitting on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably, he felt a pang of heartache: "Mom, it's okay if we can't go back. Even without Grandpa and that home over there, you still have a home here, and you still have me."
"Come back with me." Tan Zhe reached out his hand to Grandma Tan.
With bloodshot eyes, Old Mrs. Tan stared at Tan Zhe's outstretched hand for a moment, then slowly raised her hand, wanting to reach out to him.
She had only stretched her hand halfway when she suddenly stopped.
Tan Zhe was taken aback and asked, puzzled, "Mom? What's wrong?"
Grandma Tan remained silent and slowly turned her head to look at the gray wall behind her.
Tan Zhe looked up and followed the gaze of the old lady Tan. It was still the same wall, unchanged.
However, in Grandma Tan's eyes, the gray wall was flashing with wave after wave of silver light, and then a door slowly appeared before her.
Grandma Tan looked over with surprise and then turned to Tan Zhe, her face filled with guilt: "I'm sorry, Zhe..."
Tan Zhe's expression changed, and he immediately sensed something was wrong. He reached out to grab the old lady Tan.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
At that moment, Grandma Tan was surprisingly agile. She got up, opened the door, went inside, and closed the door in one smooth motion.
Tan Zhe watched helplessly as Old Madam Tan seemed to disappear completely from his sight, as if she had passed through a wall. His face turned deathly pale and looked extremely ugly.
Gao Mingcheng and his group followed the ambulance to the hospital. While the patient was being carried off the vehicle, they went over to take a look and found that it was indeed Xing Zhaozhao. She was covered in blood, her face was completely pale, and she was lying there motionless, not knowing whether she was dead or alive.
Xing Zhaoming's heart clenched, his eyes widened in horror, and he instinctively lunged forward, crying out, "Zhaozhao..."
The doctor quickly stopped them: "You are..."
"We are her family, doctor. How is she now?" Gao Mingcheng's face was no better than Xing Zhaozhao's. He suppressed his anxiety and asked the doctor.
The doctor's expression was grave. He quickly said, "Excessive blood loss, critical condition. I understand how you feel as family members, but please don't hinder us." With that, he jogged off, pushing the person directly towards the emergency room.
Xing Zhaoming was about to lunge forward when Gao Mingcheng pulled him back. However, they were so worried that they followed him all the way, making sure they wouldn't disturb the doctors. They were stopped in front of the emergency room and had to wait outside.
Unable to see what was happening inside the emergency room, the four people outside were extremely anxious, especially Xing Zhaoming, who tried to force his way in several times but was stopped by Gao Mingcheng.
Xing Zhaoming was furious: "Zhaozhao's life hangs in the balance inside, and you're still sitting here? Do you even care about her anymore?"
Gao Mingcheng gave Xing Zhaoming a cold look: "Otherwise what? You can't help if you go in. Are you just standing there and obstructing the doctors from saving lives?"
Xing Zhaoming was speechless, and stood aside, arms crossed, fuming.
Just then, a nurse rushed out from inside. The moment the door opened, several people couldn't help but peek inside and saw the hospital bed where Xing Zhaozhao was lying. The electrocardiogram next to it suddenly turned into a straight line.
"Oh no, the patient has suffered cardiac arrest, prepare the defibrillator..."
The emergency room instantly erupted into a flurry of activity.
Gao Mingcheng's heart tightened, his vision went black, and he fell forward headfirst.
"Dad..." Gao Hongfei was startled and quickly reached out to support him.
The nurses nearby saw that something was wrong and immediately called for help. They carried him to the nearest emergency room.
Xing Zhaoming wanted to go in with them, but was stopped again.
In just a short while, they saw that Xing Zhaozhao, who had just suffered cardiac arrest, had been brought back to life.
Xing Zhaoming breathed a sigh of relief, but couldn't help but say angrily, "Too cunning, shameless, they actually managed to sneak into the emergency room this way."
Gao Hongfei: "..."
Xing Jiashu: "..."
Xing Zhaoming turned to his son and nephew: "How about I pretend to faint too?"
A nurse happened to be passing by and overheard him. She looked at him sternly and said, "What are you saying, sir? You can't joke about something like this."
Xing Zhaoming lowered his head and remained silent, like a child who had made a mistake.
Gao Hongfei and Xing Jiashu both turned their heads away simultaneously. Could they pretend they didn't know each other? It was a little embarrassing.
Xing Zhaoming kicked each of them directly. These two bastards were actually showing disdain for him.
When Gao Mingcheng woke up, he found himself lying on a hospital bed in the emergency room and immediately sat up.
Gao Hongfei sat beside him and was delighted to see him, saying, "Dad, you're awake?"
Gao Mingcheng grabbed Gao Hongfei and asked anxiously, "Where's your mother? How is she now?" His last memory was of Xing Zhaozhao's sudden cardiac arrest.
Gao Hongfei patted Gao Mingcheng reassuringly and said, "Dad, don't worry. Mom is fine now. She's been saved. The surgery was a success. She's in the intensive care unit now and hasn't woken up yet."
Gao Mingcheng was finally relieved: "That's good."
"By the way, where's your uncle?" Gao Mingcheng asked when he didn't see Xing Zhaoming.
Gao Hongfei looked helpless and said, "I'm with my mom in the intensive care unit. Only one person can go in at a time, and I can't compete with him."
Gao Mingcheng shook his head helplessly, "Forget it, let him be for now." Then, his expression hardened, and he looked at Gao Hongfei solemnly, asking, "Have you caught the culprit who injured your mother?"
“This…” Gao Hongfei looked strange, hesitant to speak.
Gao Mingcheng frowned when he sensed something was wrong and asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
