Xing Zhaozhao slowly raised her head to look at Old Madam Tan, completely puzzled: "You..." Why?
Old Mrs. Tan wore a twisted smile: "Didn't you say you were willing to help me? I haven't been home for so long. Only when you die can I go back."
Xing Zhaozhao tilted her head in confusion. "No, if you want to go back, go back yourself. The door's right there. Why... why make an example of her?"
"I'm sorry," said Mrs. Tan, pulling out the knife.
Blood gushed out of the wound like a fountain, quickly splattering all over the ground.
Grandma Tan instinctively stepped back.
Upon seeing this, Xing Zhaozhao immediately stepped forward to try and pull the person back, but unexpectedly, she slipped and fell heavily to the ground, unable to get up again.
Blood was still flowing from his chest, and a familiar chill spread through his body.
Xing Zhaozhao's head began to spin. Was she going to die again? She was unwilling to accept it; Mingcheng and the children were still waiting for her to return home.
Seeing the pair of feet that Grandma Tan was standing not far away, Xing Zhaozhao couldn't help but reach out again: "Save...save her, she doesn't want to die."
Grandma Tan coldly looked down at Xing Zhaozhao, who was lying on the ground, seemingly on the verge of death. She had originally planned to stab her again, but now it seemed unnecessary.
She's dying, she'll be home soon.
With a loosening of his grip, the knife fell to the ground with a "clink".
Grandma Tan was overjoyed and was about to rush back to the abandoned cellar on the mountain when Xing Zhaozhao grabbed her shoe.
“Help…” Xing Zhaozhao tried to call for help, even though she knew the chances were slim.
Grandma Tan was startled, but she quickly hardened her heart, kicked Xing Zhaozhao away, and hurriedly left. All she wanted now was to go home; anyone who dared to stop her would face her wrath.
Hearing the door slam shut with a bang, Xing Zhaozhao lay on the cold floor, feeling her body growing colder and colder, utterly despairing. Who would save her?
Suddenly, she remembered something, and with the last bit of strength, she struggled to pull her phone out of her pocket, wanting to call Gao Mingcheng.
My hands are smeared with blood, and my fingerprints aren't working properly.
She went through a lot of trouble to enter the password and finally found Gao Mingcheng's phone number, then dialed it.
The Gao family.
Gao Mingcheng had finished breakfast and was taking a walk in the yard to digest his food.
Xing Zhaoming followed closely behind him, relentlessly asking, "It's been so many days, when is Zhaozhao finally coming?"
"She'll come when she wants to, why are you in such a hurry?" Gao Mingcheng said impatiently.
"Doesn't she have a cell phone? Can't we just call her and ask?" Xing Zhaoming asked.
"Didn't I tell you already? There's no signal there, you can't get through. Didn't you try yesterday too?" Gao Mingcheng was getting annoyed by his brother-in-law. If it weren't for Zhaozhao's sake, he would have kicked him out.
"Yesterday is yesterday, maybe we can get through today? Try calling again," Xing Zhaoming said impatiently.
"What's the rush? If we're going to fight, it's not now, it's still early," Gao Mingcheng said.
Xing Zhaoming couldn't take it anymore: "Making a phone call is such a hassle. If you're not going to make it, give me the phone and I'll make it myself." With that, he reached out to grab it.
"Get out." Gao Mingcheng refused.
Just as they were about to start fighting, Xing Jiashu, who was leisurely drinking tea not far away, asked Gao Hongfei beside him with concern, "It looks like they're going to fight again."
Gao Hongfei said dismissively, "Anyway, they can't kill us, so let them beat us up as much as they want."
Xing Jiashu: "..." Is this really something my own son would say?
Gao Hongfei really had no choice. Those two old men were never peaceful when they got together, and he couldn't beat them, so he had to let them be. Fortunately, although they often caused trouble, they still had a sense of proportion. It was unlikely that they would even injure them, let alone kill them.
Xing Jiashu took a sip of tea, glanced at Gao Hongfei, and couldn't help but ask again, "By the way, Aunt really..." He had been staying here for a few days and already knew about Xing Zhaozhao's situation, but he still couldn't quite believe it. He thought that the nonsense his mother had said was actually true.
"You'll know when you meet him." Gao Hongfei was too lazy to explain anymore; he'd let him see for himself.
A familiar ringtone suddenly sounded.
It was Gao Mingcheng's phone ringing.
Gao Hongfei and Xing Jiashu, who were drinking tea, immediately turned around and looked over. After a moment of stunned silence, they hurriedly got up to greet them.
Gao Mingcheng and Xing Zhaoming, who were stretching their muscles, also stopped abruptly.
Xing Zhaoming looked at Gao Mingcheng with bright eyes: "Was that Zhaozhao's call?"
Gao Mingcheng took out his phone, glanced at it, and nodded: "Mm."
Before he could finish speaking, Xing Zhaoming snatched the phone away and answered, "Hello? Is this Zhao Zhao? It's your older brother."
Gao Mingcheng was so angry he wanted to hit someone, but seeing that the other person had already answered the phone, he had no choice but to hold back for the time being and wait a while before talking to him.
"Brother?" Xing Zhaozhao's weak voice came from the phone.
Hearing his sister's familiar voice, Xing Zhaoming's eyes reddened. He sniffed and asked in a hoarse voice, "Zhaozhao, where are you now? I'll come pick you up."
"Brother...save me..." Xing Zhaozhao's voice was even weaker.
Xing Zhaoming was taken aback, then quickly exchanged a shocked look with Gao Mingcheng, who had also overheard the conversation. He asked anxiously, as if facing a formidable enemy, "What's wrong, Zhaoming? Where are you? What happened?"
There was no sound from the phone.
"Zhao Zhao? Zhao Zhao? Can you hear my voice?" Xing Zhaoming called out anxiously.
There was still no sound from the phone.
"Is your stupid phone broken? Why is there no sound?" Xing Zhaoming yelled at Gao Mingcheng, who was standing next to him.
Gao Mingcheng's expression was also very unpleasant. He snatched the phone away and said, "Hello? Zhaozhao? Can you hear me? Can you make a sound?"
There wasn't even a squeak.
Gao Mingcheng's expression turned serious.
Gao Hongfei and Xing Jiashu walked over and noticed that both of them looked unwell. They asked curiously, "What's wrong? Was it Mom on the phone?"
"It seems something happened to your mother," Gao Mingcheng said.
"What?" Gao Hongfei was shocked. He took the phone from Gao Mingcheng's hand and glanced at it. The caller ID showed his mother's phone number, and it was still in use.
He brought the phone to his ear and tentatively called out, "Mom?"
Her response was still a deathly silence.
"Is it really my aunt's phone number? Is it possible that there's a mistake?" Xing Jiashu leaned closer and asked curiously.
"It must have been her call. I just answered it, and I heard her call me 'brother'," Xing Zhaoming said, then snatched the phone back and called out twice, but there was still no response.
"Is your phone broken? Let me try calling again." After saying that, he hung up the phone.
Gao Mingcheng tried to stop him but couldn't.
Xing Zhaoming called back, but this time the call couldn't be connected. He panicked completely and looked at Gao Mingcheng: "What do we do now?"
Gao Mingcheng hesitated for a moment, then looked at Gao Hongfei and said, "Call the police and have them check the location of your mother's phone right now."
"Understood." Gao Hongfei nodded immediately, his face grim.
