Gao Mingcheng just spoke with Xing Zhaozhao on the phone.
Because Xiao Hongling was clinging to her, Xing Zhaozhao had no choice but to call Gao Mingcheng from the doorway before she woke up in the morning, to tell him that she didn't have time to come see him for the time being, and to send him the photos she had taken of the children.
Gao Mingcheng's favorite photo is of Xing Zhaozhao with her three children. He couldn't look away from those four smiling faces at the camera for a long time.
Just then, Gao Hongfei called.
The precious, heartwarming moment was interrupted, and Gao Mingcheng was a little unhappy, but for the sake of his son, he still answered the phone.
Unexpectedly, as soon as the call connected, before he could even say anything, Gao Hongfei on the other end of the line blurted out, "She's my mom, isn't she?"
Remembering that Xing Zhaozhao had previously refused to acknowledge this boy and harbored some resentment, Gao Mingcheng decided to stand up for her.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Gao Mingcheng neither admitted nor denied it.
"She is my mother." This time, Gao Hongfei spoke with unusual certainty. Thinking of Gao Mingcheng's obvious attitude towards her, he couldn't help but give a bitter laugh and said, "I was so stupid, really. I should have guessed it sooner. How could someone like you be so good to anyone other than Mom?"
Gao Mingcheng snorted coldly and remained silent. He really was a fool, treating a fake as a treasure while ignoring the real thing right in front of him. But it wasn't too late to realize it now.
"Where's my mom? Let her answer the phone," Gao Hongfei said.
"Get lost, I don't have any," Gao Mingcheng said irritably. He had a hard time finding anyone he wanted to look for, so why was he meddling in his business?
Gao Hongfei got angry: "Dad, Mom isn't just yours, she's mine too."
"Get lost! Where is your mother? Didn't you say you'd never acknowledge her even if you died?" Gao Mingcheng said coldly.
Gao Hongfei was speechless for a moment.
It was indeed his fault, he admitted it, and he didn't care whether he lived or died, as long as he wanted to see his mother.
"Where is my mother? I need to see her," Gao Hongfei asked.
"No." Gao Mingcheng hung up the phone immediately after saying that, too lazy to talk to him anymore.
Gao Hongfei stared at the phone that had been hung up, speechless with anger. This old man had gone too far! He wouldn't let him see his mother? Did he really think he could stop him?
He immediately called his assistant: "Hello? Is this Xiao He? It's me. Arrange a private jet for me, I need to go back to Lanyuan. The sooner the better."
After hanging up the phone, Gao Hongfei realized that Ying Rongrong and Gao Han were still anxiously knocking on the door outside the room.
"Hongfei, open the door! Don't scare people," Ying Rongrong said worriedly.
"Dad, open the door quickly, or I'll break it down!" Gao Han said.
After waiting for a while and seeing no movement from the room, Gao Han's face darkened. He told Ying Rongrong to move aside and was about to break down the door.
Just then, the previously closed room door opened.
Seeing Gao Hongfei standing safely at the door, Ying Rongrong and Gao Han both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Dad, are you alright?" Gao Han asked worriedly as he stepped forward.
"I'm fine," Gao Hongfei said. "I'm going back to Lanyuan right away. I'll leave all the company matters to you."
"Are you planning to go to Lanyuan to bring Dad back?" Ying Rongrong asked.
Gao Hongfei shook his head, frowned at Ying Rongrong for a moment, hesitated, and decided to not tell her about Xing Zhaozhao for the time being, fearing that she would not be able to accept it.
"I plan to go back to Lanyuan to stay with my dad for a while and see how things go," Gao Hongfei said.
That's fine. Ying Rongrong thought for a moment and said, "Then I'll go back with you..."
Gao Hongfei disagreed: "No need, I'll go back and check the situation myself first."
Although Ying Rongrong was disappointed, she did not insist. It was indeed more appropriate for Gao Hongfei to handle matters concerning her father-in-law.
"When are you planning to leave?" Ying Rongrong asked.
"Right away," Gao Hongfei said.
After lunch, Gao Mingcheng brewed a pot of tea and sat in the courtyard, basking in the sun while looking at the photos Xing Zhaozhao had sent him, especially the ones of Xiao Hongling. He looked at them over and over again until his eyes welled up with tears.
He wasn't there when the child was born, and he only returned after the child was gone. He never knew what his daughter looked like, but now he finally saw her. It was wonderful. The only regret was that he couldn't hold her in his arms; he was afraid he would never have the chance again in this lifetime.
Just then, a familiar car stopped outside the gate. Gao Hongfei got out of the car, leaning on his cane, and walked in, standing directly in front of Gao Mingcheng: "Dad, I'm back."
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
Gao Mingcheng stared at Gao Hongfei, blinked, and was dumbfounded.
No, I just called. They were still in Beijing. How did they arrive so quickly?
"How could you..." Gao Mingcheng was about to ask.
Gao Hongfei, with his sharp eyes, noticed the photo on Gao Mingcheng's phone and asked, "What are you looking at?"
Gao Mingcheng's expression changed, and he quickly tried to hide his phone, but it was too late.
Gao Hongfei rushed over, grabbed his hand tightly, and peered over. When he saw Xiao Hongling on the screen, his eyes lit up: "Is this... Xiao Hongling?"
From the moment his younger sister was born until her death, Gao Hongfei was always by her side. He recognized her at a glance, and his eyes quickly welled up with tears: "Little Hongling has gotten fatter, that's so good..."
Seeing Gao Hongfei's red-rimmed eyes, Gao Mingcheng's heart softened.
Taking advantage of this moment, Gao Hongfei snatched his phone away.
Gao Mingcheng: "..." This bastard.
Gao Hongfei quickly scrolled through the photos on Gao Mingcheng's phone, finally stopping at the same photo of Xing Zhaozhao and the three children.
Gao Hongfei's heart tightened, and he gently ran his fingers across the four faces: Mom, brother, sister, and him. It's so good that they're all here.
"Where is Mom? I need to see her," Gao Hongfei said, looking at Gao Mingcheng impatiently.
“There’s no way to see him now,” Gao Mingcheng said. He was telling the truth, but Gao Hongfei didn’t believe him.
Gao Hongfei thought the old man was afraid he would take his mother away from him, and said angrily, "If you don't tell me, I'll follow you around every day. I don't believe I still won't see you."
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
Gao Mingcheng was furious. Sons really are born to collect debts.
