Chapter 210 Threat

"This is the last time. You'd better watch yourself. Don't expect me to clean up your messes again." Chen Hao said coldly to Chen Dachuan as they left the public security brigade.

Chen Dachuan chuckled coldly: "So, now that you're an official, you look down on your poor relatives. Don't forget, if it weren't for our ancestors, your branch of the family would have been wiped out long ago. Where would you be now, so prosperous? You ungrateful and despicable scoundrel, be careful you don't get struck by lightning later."

Chen Hao said with a stern face, "Our family has helped your family more than once or twice. We have done everything we could and should do. We have done more than enough. If you want to keep sucking our blood forever, don't even think about it."

Chen Dachuan chuckled maliciously and said, "Trying to distance yourself now? Too late. We're in this together now. If I were to reveal all the things you did for our family in the past, do you think your father-in-law would still be able to hold onto his position?"

Chen Hao looked at Chen Dachuan, a cold glint flashing in his slightly narrowed eyes: "Are you threatening me?"

“That’s right, I’m threatening you.” Chen Dachuan looked at Chen Hao provocatively, walked up to him, and asked with a grin, “What? You want to kill me? Do you dare? Aren’t you afraid of getting skinned alive?”

As Chen Dachuan spoke, he patted Chen Hao's military uniform.

Chen Hao remained expressionless, raised his hand, and slapped his hand away: "Don't touch my uniform with your filthy hands."

Chen Dachuan chuckled dismissively and said, "If you don't want to be skinned alive, then you'd better behave."

Chen Hao pursed his lips and remained silent, his hands clenched into fists and hanging at his sides, still trying to restrain himself.

"Where are you staying now? At the guesthouse in Lanyuan Town?" Chen Dachuan asked.

Chen Hao remained silent.

“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes,” Chen Dachuan said. “I probably have something to discuss with you soon, so you’d better not rush back. If you can’t find me, don’t blame me for being impolite and reporting you. You know what the situation is like right now. If your whole family gets sent to a labor camp to starve, don’t blame me for not warning you.”

After saying that, Chen Dachuan laughed triumphantly and turned to leave.

Chen Hao watched his departing figure, a chilling glint flashing in his eyes.

Not long after leaving Chen Hao, Chen Dachuan regretted it. He was penniless and hungry, with no money or tickets to buy food. When he went back to look for him, Chen Hao was already gone. He had no choice but to walk back hungry and grumbling.

When Chen Dachuan returned to Dacheng Street, it was already evening. The sun was setting, and smoke was rising from many houses on the street. Everyone was cooking meat, and the fragrant aroma filled the street, making Chen Dachuan's mouth water.

Aunt Gu, who lived on the street behind, happened to pass by. When she saw Chen Dachuan, she immediately frowned in disgust: "Where did you come from, beggar? You're filthy."

Chen Dachuan glared at her fiercely.

Sister-in-law Gu was startled and glared back defiantly: "Why are you glaring at me? To make yourself look big?"

However, Sister-in-law Gu quickly sensed something was amiss: "Huh? Why do you look so familiar?"

She immediately realized what was happening and looked at Chen Dachuan in surprise, saying, "You...aren't you Chen Dachuan? The husband of Lin Wan, that heartless woman trafficker? How did you get out here? Aren't you two in cahoots?"

Hearing the commotion, people in the neighborhood couldn't resist opening their doors out of curiosity and peeking out to see what was going on.

Grandma Qin and Xiao Qin were no exception.

Although the old principal didn't peek out, he kept his ears perked up, listening intently: "I didn't expect Chen Dachuan to actually be released."

Grandma Qin turned to look at the old headmaster, her expression grave: "Old Qin, tell me, is it really as Chen Hao said, that he is innocent, or was he protected by the Chen family?"

The old principal stroked his chin, pondered for a moment, his eyes flashing, and said, "Given the current situation, I don't think the Chen family would take such a big risk to save him. However, you can't say he's innocent. That day, Chen Hao said there was no evidence. That evidence might really be nonexistent, or it might just be that it hasn't been found yet."

Outside, Chen Dachuan glared at Gu Dasao with a sinister look, gritting his teeth and coldly saying, "In cahoots? Who told you we were in cahoots? Even the police couldn't find any evidence and had to release me. You just spout nonsense and think you can convict me? Who gave you that right?"

Sister-in-law Gu was finally frightened by Chen Dachuan's piercing gaze. Her face was pale and she stammered, "I... I was just saying, why are you getting so angry? You're crazy. I'm not talking to you anymore."

After saying that, Sister-in-law Gu hurriedly left. Feeling the cold gaze piercing her from behind, she was so frightened that she started to run away. She didn't want to stay there for another second. That person was too scary. Even if he wasn't with Lin Wan, he was definitely not a good person. She couldn't afford to offend him, so it was better to get away as soon as possible.

Sensing the probing gazes around him, Chen Dachuan followed those gazes with his own intense eyes.

Everyone who met his eyes was terrified and quickly pulled their heads back, closing the door behind them.

Grandma Qin clutched her wildly beating heart, turned to the old headmaster with a serious expression, and said, "Old Qin, this man doesn't seem like a good person. I'm a little worried. I'll go to Xiaogaozhuang tomorrow and tell Zhaozhao."

The old principal nodded: "Okay, I'll go with you tomorrow."

Grandma Qin frowned, thought for a moment, shook her head, and said, "Forget it, I'll go alone. If you come with me, you'll be too conspicuous. I think someone's been watching our family again lately. I wonder if those thugs are going to cause trouble again. Let's not let them find out anything is wrong and cause trouble for Zhaozhao."

The old headmaster's expression hardened, and he nodded: "Okay." After saying that, he thought it wasn't right, and quickly turned around and went back into the house, "I'll go hide the good things in the house first."

When Chen Dachuan returned home, Chen Xiaoxia had just finished cooking and was carefully scooping rice from the pot while standing on a stool. Her younger sister, Xiaoqiu, stood beside her, holding an empty bowl and looking up at her older sister with longing eyes.

After Uncle Lin was kicked out of the house, the Chen family stayed for a few more days to take care of the two sisters. A couple of days ago, they learned that something had happened at home and rushed back, leaving the two sisters alone at home again.

Fortunately, when they left, the authorities provided them with rice and other food supplies, so they had enough to eat. The neighborhood officials also came to check on them from time to time, and things remained peaceful.

As soon as Chen Dachuan got home, he went straight to the kitchen: "Is there anything else to eat?"

"Dad?" Xia and Qiu were both overjoyed to see Chen Dachuan.

Unfortunately, his joy didn't last long. Chen Dachuan swept his arm away, ignoring them, grabbed his big bowl, and devoured the meager meal that Chen Xiaoxia had painstakingly prepared in a flash.

Chen Xiaoxia hugged her younger sister, feeling wronged and wanting to cry, but afraid of being beaten, she dared not cry out.
