The Dong family members instantly fell to the ground, rolling around and crying out in pain.
Xing Zhaozhao ignored him completely, only looking at Gao Hongfei with concern: "Are you alright, Hongfei?"
Gao Hongfei shook his head: "I'm fine, Mom."
"That's good." Xing Zhaozhao was relieved and pulled him to sit down on the chair next to her. She complained, "You're not young anymore. If you encounter something like this again, just call someone over to throw all these things away. Why be so polite? It's not worth it if you get hurt."
Gao Hongfei enjoyed his mother's concern and obediently nodded: "I know, Mom. It happened so suddenly, I didn't have time to react. It won't happen again."
After saying that, he gave his elderly father, who was sitting next to him, a smug look.
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
Gao Mingcheng rolled his eyes at his son, took Xing Zhaozhao's hand, and asked with concern, "Are you tired, Zhaozhao?"
Xing Zhaozhao shook her head, unconcerned, and said, "It's just a few people. I can just throw them around. How could that possibly tire me out?"
The other members of the Gao family glanced at the Dong family members lying on the ground, and their lips twitched involuntarily. These people combined weighed several hundred pounds, and they'd just been tossed around like that…
Their gazes towards Xing Zhaozhao became somewhat complicated. It was said that her grandmother (or great-grandmother) possessed superhuman strength; could she really be…?
Gao Mingcheng's eyes lit up as he looked at the dress Xing Zhaozhao was wearing, and he asked, "Did Rongrong prepare this dress for you?"
Xing Zhaozhao nodded, happily twirled around in front of Gao Mingcheng, and asked, "How is it? Pretty, right?"
Gao Mingcheng nodded seriously: "Beautiful. If you like it, I'll buy you more in the future."
Xing Zhaozhao thought for a moment, then shook her head and refused: "No need for that. Anyway, I won't have many opportunities to wear it in the future. One is enough. There's no need to waste money."
Gao Mingcheng held Xing Zhaozhao's hand tightly, his face firm: "Yes, I want to. I've never had the chance to buy you pretty clothes before."
Xing Zhaozhao looked deeply at Gao Mingcheng, a gentle smile playing on her lips, and nodded: "Okay."
Dong Cui's shocked gaze lingered between Xing Zhaozhao and Gao Mingcheng for a moment before she couldn't help but ask in a trembling voice, "Who... are you?"
Gao Mingcheng and Gao Hongfei glanced at Dong Cui in unison and said, "My wife (my mother)."
Dong Cui could hardly believe her ears: "This..." How could this be?
However, seeing is believing.
Of course, she never considered the possibility that Xing Zhaozhao was Gao Hongfei's biological mother. After all, her age was obvious, and it didn't matter whether they were related or not. The two most influential people in the Gao family had already acknowledged her identity, so her position in the Gao family was secure, and she wouldn't have to worry about anything for the rest of her life.
Dong Cui looked at Xing Zhaozhao, a hint of envy and jealousy flickering in her eyes. How could Xing Zhaozhao be so lucky? If only she could have that kind of life.
Dong Cang, Dong Yingjun, and the young couple Zhong Jingjing stared wide-eyed at Xing Zhaozhao, their faces filled with disbelief. How could this be? This was a huge problem; it seemed like they had made a deep grudge.
The men's faces quickly turned pale, and they looked to Dong Cui for help. They needed to think of a solution quickly; if anything happened to them, she would be implicated.
Dong Cui received several pleading glances from Dong Cang, and her somewhat sagging face trembled slightly. She gritted her teeth inwardly, seething with resentment. These people were more trouble than they were worth, yet she couldn't ignore them. After all, they all shared the surname Dong; their fates were intertwined.
Dong Cui's eyes flickered as she looked at Xing Zhaozhao, forcing a stiff smile. She said, "Oh, so you're my in-laws' mother. We're all family. Can't we talk things out? Isn't it inappropriate to resort to violence? It hurts the harmony between our two families, and in the end, it's our own children who suffer."
As she spoke, she glanced meaningfully at Xia Chen and Gao Yue.
Xia Chen and Gao Yue both looked rather unwell.
Gao Yue, in particular, was furious. Not because Xing Zhaozhao had laid a hand on her, but because of Dong Cui. She had already tolerated it out of respect for Xia Chen, but now those Dongs were pushing their luck. They were the ones who started the fight with her father, yet they were now blaming her. She had been spoiled since childhood; when had she ever been treated like this?
She took her anger out on Xia Chen as well. Just because she had given their family face didn't mean she would stand by and watch them humiliate the Gao family.
She wanted to pull her hand away from Xia Chen's grasp.
Xia Chen held on tightly, refusing to let go. He wasn't stupid; he could distinguish right from wrong. Compared to his wife, with whom he had lived for many years and with whom he had a deep bond, and his biological mother, who had suddenly appeared and whom he hadn't known for very long, he had a clear sense of right and wrong.
Gao Yue tried several times without success and gave up, but she still stubbornly refused to look at him.
Xia Chen didn't care; he just wanted to get on with it first.
Xing Zhaozhao looked coldly at Dong Cui, then sat down in the chair next to Gao Mingcheng, facing Dong Cui directly. She said rudely, "Are you blind? It was clearly your family who started the fight with our Hongfei. You care so much about your child, why didn't you say anything earlier? Now you're here to play the victim and complain. You have no shame."
Gao Yue's eyes lit up as she looked at Xing Zhaozhao. This stepmother-in-law was someone to befriend.
Dong Cui blushed deeply, unsure of what to say.
At this moment, Xia Xiaoyue, who was sitting to the side, saw her own grandmother being rendered speechless by Xing Zhaozhao's rebuke, and she was both angry and resentful. After all, she also had the blood of the Dong family flowing in her veins. On one hand, she was angry that the Dong family had embarrassed her, and on the other hand, she resented Xing Zhaozhao for being so aggressive and not giving the Dong family any face, nor giving her any face. So she couldn't help but speak up.
"It's all because of you. You started this." Xia Xiaoyue looked at Xing Zhaozhao with a resentful expression and said.
Xing Zhaozhao looked at Xia Xiaoyue and couldn't help but frown.
The other members of the Gao family looked at Xia Xiaoyue with disbelief.
Even Gao Lianzhou, who had been grinning the whole time, turned serious, glared at Xia Xiaoyue, and said coldly, "Do you know what you're saying, Xia Xiaoyue?"
Xia Fanxing looked at Xia Xiaoyue anxiously: "Why are you siding with outsiders, Xiaoyue?"
"What outsiders?" Xia Xiaoyue looked at Xia Fanxing with dissatisfaction. "Get this straight, Xia Fanxing. They are Dad's mother and uncle, our grandmother and great-uncle, and our relatives. The only outsider here is her."
Xia Xiaoyue pointed directly at Xing Zhaozhao, her eyes filled with undisguised resentment.
Dong Cui couldn't help but smile. She truly was her good granddaughter; all the effort she had put into her over the past few months had been worthwhile.
Xing Zhaozhao didn't care, but Gao Mingcheng and Gao Hongfei both frowned.
Gao Yue panicked: "What are you saying? Xiaoyue? Apologize now."
Xia Xiaoyue retorted, "I didn't say anything wrong, why should I apologize?"
"Xia Xiaoyue..." Gao Hongfei shouted angrily, wanting to say something, but was stopped by Xing Zhaozhao.
