Seeing that Chen Wei had finally relented, Chen Hao breathed a long sigh of relief, turned to Xing Zhaozhao, and asked, "Now, can I take her away?"
Xing Zhaozhao stepped back and made a "please" gesture: "Do as you please."
Chen Hao walked over, preparing to help Chen Wei off the hospital bed, when he suddenly heard Chen Wei ask, "Brother, I remember that my sister-in-law's brother's grandson's wife's brother works at a newspaper?"
Chen Hao paused, his expression hardening as he looked at Chen Wei and asked in a deep voice, "What are you planning to do now?"
Chen Wei glanced at Xing Zhaozhao casually and said, "It's nothing."
Chen Hao stared at her intently for a moment, then suddenly stepped back.
Chen Wei froze, looking at Chen Hao with confusion: "Brother?"
“I think you should probably stay here,” Chen Hao said.
Chen Wei panicked: "Brother..."
Chen Hao ignored her and turned to Xing Zhaozhao and the other two beside him: "Let her stay here." After saying that, as if afraid he would regret it, he left the room first and did not turn back no matter how much Chen Wei called him.
Xing Zhaozhao, Gao Mingcheng, and Xing Zhaoming looked at each other, puzzled as to why he had suddenly changed his mind. They followed him out, making sure to lock the door behind them.
From the room behind them, Chen Wei's cursing started again, but they ignored her.
Chen Hao went downstairs first and was no longer outside.
Xing Zhaozhao, Gao Mingcheng, and Xing Zhaoming also turned back. Just as they reached the stairwell, the door to another room on another floor suddenly opened, and a nurse came out. Upon seeing them, she nodded slightly and left first.
Xing Zhaozhao glanced curiously at the room the nurse had come out of, then turned to Gao Mingcheng and asked, "Is someone staying there too? Who?"
"They're not important, we don't need to worry about them." Gao Mingcheng said without further ado, and quickly left with Xing Zhaozhao.
Chen Hao was waiting for them outside the small building.
"Why did you suddenly change your mind?" Xing Zhaoming asked as he walked out.
Chen Hao glanced towards Chen Wei's room on the second floor and said, "She's obsessed. Rather than taking her back, who knows what trouble she'll cause? It's better to let her stay here; at least it'll be safer."
Xing Zhaozhao scoffed dismissively: "I think you're just afraid she'll cause you trouble."
Chen Hao gave Xing Zhaozhao a deep look: "Causing trouble for me is also causing trouble for her, it's the same thing. Besides, aren't you worried that she'll cause trouble for you?"
“No one will believe that,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
“Although Weiwei is crazy, there’s one thing she’s right about: out of so many people in the world, there will always be some who believe it, even if it’s just a small group. That’s a huge problem for you,” Chen Hao said earnestly.
Xing Zhaozhao couldn't refute him, so she snorted and turned to leave. The Chen family is just so annoying, no matter what.
Gao Mingcheng immediately followed.
Xing Zhaoming and Chen Hao followed closely behind.
"We'll still need your help with Weiwei's future," Chen Hao said as they walked.
Xing Zhaoming glanced at him: "Aren't you afraid I'll abuse her?"
"I believe in your and Gao Mingcheng's character," Chen Hao said.
"No, this concerns Zhaozhao. You shouldn't trust our character too much," Xing Zhaoming said, shaking his head.
Chen Hao glanced at Xing Zhaozhao, who was walking ahead with Gao Mingcheng, chuckled softly, and said, "I believe in her, so I believe in you all too."
"..." Xing Zhaoming began to reflect. Sure enough, one shouldn't be too principled. Look how someone took advantage of him.
“However, Weiwei is getting on in years, so don’t keep her tied up all the time; it’s not good for her health,” Chen Hao added.
Xing Zhaoming: "..."
"We'll let her go once she's calmed down," Xing Zhaoming said.
"Your sanatorium has a nice environment. Do you have any rooms available? Could you spare a double room for me?" Chen Hao said, looking around with interest as he returned to the sanatorium next door from the small building.
"...I heard that reservations here are already booked until the year after next," Xing Zhaoming said.
"Isn't this the Gao family's own property? Didn't they leave a couple of spare rooms for their own family members?" Chen Hao asked.
Xing Zhaoming sneered: "You said you left some for your family..." Who are you, big brother?
“We’re related by marriage, so we’re practically family,” Chen Hao said, taking advantage of the situation.
“Who’s talking to you…” Xing Zhaoming wanted to retort.
"I just asked you to get a divorce, but you refused," Chen Hao said, amused, looking at Xing Zhaoming's face, which instantly fell apart.
"Chen Wei just agreed to the divorce," Xing Zhaoming said, his face dark as he tried to salvage the situation.
“She only agreed to leave after I told her to come with me, and she’s still here,” Chen Hao retorted.
"Then you have the guts to take her away," Xing Zhaoming blurted out.
"Are you sure?" Chen Hao looked at Xing Zhaoming with a smile.
Xing Zhaoming: "..."
Looking at Xing Zhaozhao's retreating figure ahead, Xing Zhaoming finally gave in and reluctantly said, "I'll ask for you." Zhaozhao might not care, but he didn't want to leave any potential problems for her, especially given that she might not be able to return anytime soon.
"Then I'll have to trouble you," Chen Hao said with a smile.
Xing Zhaoming gave a cold snort, which was taken as a response.
Chen Wei continued her hysterical outburst for several days until one midnight, when she realized that even her most trusted brother no longer wanted her. Only then did she belatedly realize that her escape route was completely cut off and there was no hope left. She seemed to have suffered a great blow, and she became completely dejected, losing all interest in anything.
She neither cried, made a fuss, nor cursed. She ate and drank according to the nurse's arrangements every day. Even after she was freed from her restraints, she was unwilling to go out. She spent most of her time sitting in her room, staring blankly out the window. Occasionally, she would go out for a walk. She was indifferent to Xing Jiashu, Xing Zhaoming, and Chen Hao, who occasionally came to visit her.
Years later, as news of Gao Mingcheng, Chen Hao, and Xing Zhaoming's deaths arrived one by one, she finally died in her sleep, a triumphant smile lingering on her lips. She had won; she had outlived them all.
