Lin Wan rubbed her arm, which had been pinched so hard by Xing Zhaozhao, and turned to look at the closed door behind her, her face gloomy: "Such strength, not at all like a woman. I wonder what Gao Mingcheng saw in her."
Xia tugged at Lin Wan's arm, still making a fuss: "Mommy, I want my brother, I want my brother..."
Lin Wan glared at her fiercely and shouted angrily, "Shut up, Mom can't get you a brother right now."
Xia pouted, not daring to utter a sound. She looked timidly at Lin Wan, tears streaming down her face.
Lin Wan was annoyed: "If you behave well, Mom will try to get your brother here for you in the future."
Xia immediately wiped away her tears and nodded vigorously.
"Alright, let's go home." Lin Wan took one of them by the hand and started walking down the mountain.
When they reached the village entrance at the foot of the mountain, they suddenly saw a refined-looking young man coming towards them.
When the young man saw her, he immediately stared at her with wide eyes, not blinking.
Lin Wan's heart pounded as he stared at her, and a faint blush quickly rose to her face. She shyly looked away, but couldn't help turning her head to steal a glance at him again. However, she suddenly met the young man's gaze, and hurriedly looked away again in a flustered state.
"Excuse me, what is your relationship with Sister Xing who lives on the mountain?" the young man asked.
“She’s my cousin, and her mother is my aunt,” Lin Wan said.
"So you're cousins. No wonder you look so alike," the young man said with a smile, looking at her intently. His voice seemed to have a captivating magnetism as he asked, "May I ask your name?"
"Fang... what's your name?" Lin Wan's heart was even more confused. "My name is Lin Wan."
"Wan'er? What a lovely name." The young man said, extending his hand to Lin Wan, "My name is Zhang Wenming, and I'm an educated youth from the capital."
The call of "Wan'er" almost made Lin Wan forget her own name. She stared at Zhang Wenming and reached out her hand.
Were they educated youth from Beijing? Yes, only educated youth from Beijing could be so unrestrained.
Zhang Wenming took her hand and gently ran his fingertips across her palm.
Lin Wan felt a tickle in her heart and quickly withdrew her hand, but her eyes remained fixed on him, unable to look away.
Zhang Wenming also stared at her intently.
Their eyes met, their gazes locked together as if drawn by some unspoken connection.
Xia looked at her mother strangely and gently tugged at her hand: "Mom?"
Lin Wan shuddered and quickly came to her senses. Looking at her two daughters beside her and then at the handsome Zhang Wenming, she felt ashamed of herself. She hurriedly lowered her head and pulled her two daughters away.
"Wan'er," Zhang Wenming suddenly called out to her.
Lin Wan stopped abruptly and turned to look at Zhang Wenming in disbelief.
"Come visit your cousin often in the future," Zhang Wenming said.
Lin Wan realized what was happening, her cheeks quickly flushed red, she nodded vigorously, and then left with her two daughters. As she walked, her feet felt as if they were walking on clouds, all soft and yielding.
As Lin Wan's figure completely disappeared from sight, Zhang Wenming's smile faded, and he turned to look in the direction of Xing Zhaozhao's house on the mountain, a gloomy light flashing in his eyes.
Lin Wan was distracted the whole way home, and the blush on her face hadn't completely faded by the time she got back.
Lin Wan's husband, Chen Dachuan, saw this, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes. He grabbed her collar and pulled her over, saying, "What have you been doing? You look so love-struck."
Seeing Chen Dachuan's fierce expression, Lin Wan turned pale with fright, and all her romantic thoughts vanished instantly: "What else could I be doing? Didn't I tell you I was going to see my cousin Zhao Zhao?"
Chen Dachuan pinched her fair and rosy cheeks: "Look at your cousin, why is her face so red?"
"I was just walking a little too fast on the way, with two kids with me, what do you think I could do?" Lin Wan said.
Chen Dachuan glanced down at his two bewildered daughters, remained silent for a moment, and finally let go of Lin Wan.
Lin Wan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"How's your cousin doing?" Chen Dachuan asked.
"What else can happen? That's just how it is." Lin Wan was still angry that Xing Zhaozhao kicked her out. "When I went to Xiaogaozhuang to inquire, I heard that she had broken off ties with her husband's family and moved to an abandoned house on the mountain with her three children. I thought she would have a miserable life, but I didn't expect her to be living quite comfortably. She can even afford White Rabbit candy."
As Lin Wan spoke, she took one out of her pocket, peeled it, and put it into Chen Dachuan's mouth.
"Oh, right, Xia also has her eye on her eldest son, and she's been clamoring to bring him home," Lin Wan added.
"Eldest son?" Chen Dachuan's eyes flashed. "How many sons does she have?"
“Two,” Lin Wan said.
"They're quite good at having children," Chen Dachuan said thoughtfully, stroking his chin.
His son has always been a source of pain for him; he longs for a son.
Seeing his expression, Lin Wan vaguely guessed what he was planning, and her heart skipped a beat. She tried to dissuade him: "Don't even think about it. She's a military wife. If her husband comes back and finds out, it will cause a huge disaster."
"Since she's a military wife, shouldn't she go to the military base with her husband? How come she's left alone in her hometown with three children?" Chen Dachuan asked.
"I heard she came back to give birth because there was no one to take care of her at the military base," Lin Wan said.
Chen Dachuan scoffed dismissively: "Excuses. I'm a man, don't I know men? I bet they're just disgusted with her, so they sent her back to her hometown and probably won't care about her anymore. She has no family back, and her husband's family has cut off all ties with her. She's all alone in the mountains with three children. Isn't that just the right thing to do?"
Lin Wan hesitated: "It's still too dangerous. Someone from the village will eventually go to check on her."
“You’re her cousin. You can easily find an excuse to move in and cover it up. I just want to borrow a womb to have a son. It won’t take much trouble,” Chen Dachuan said nonchalantly.
Upon hearing that she could move in, Lin Wan was immediately excited. Then she could be with Zhang, the educated youth…
“Okay, I’ll try to find an opportunity,” Lin Wan readily agreed.
Chen Dachuan then smiled with satisfaction.
"By the way, I think the little granddaughter of Old Man Fu next door is quite pretty. Why don't you go over there sometime and see if there's any chance..."
"OK……"
Starting from the beginning of the year, Xing Zhaozhao went to the door to wait for Gao Mingcheng for several days in a row.
Hongyu broke her phone, so she lost all contact information and had no choice but to resort to this clumsy method of waiting for him to come to her.
Unfortunately, perhaps because he was busy during the Chinese New Year, he didn't come back. So she simply put up a sign in the cellar to remind him: Your son broke your phone.
