Chapter 159 Finding People

"Letter of introduction? I have one," Gao Qingshan said, taking it out of his pocket and handing it to the doctor. Luckily, he had taken off his coat when he went into the water to rescue the person; otherwise, it would have been a real problem if it had gotten wet.

Xing Zhaozhao turned her head in surprise: "You actually brought a letter of introduction?"

Gao Qingshan nodded: "Grandpa gave it to me when he left, saying it might come in handy, and even if it doesn't, it's just in case."

"As expected of Captain Gao," Xing Zhaozhao couldn't help but exclaim. He was so prescient. She still had two bottles of good wine hidden away; she'd take them to him when she got back.

The doctor reviewed the referral letter, found no problems, and apologized to Xing Zhaozhao, saying, "I'm sorry, I misunderstood you."

Xing Zhaozhao shook her head and said, "It's okay, you're just doing this for the sake of the child."

The doctor looked at the child lying on the hospital bed, then at Xing Zhaozhao, hesitated for a moment, and said apologetically, "Could I do you a favor?"

"What is it?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.

"This child is not fully conscious, but he still thinks of you as his mother, which shows that he subconsciously trusts you. I wonder if you could stay here with him for a while? If you could help me find out his name, his parents' names, and where he lives as soon as possible, that would be even better," the doctor said.

“But we’re in a hurry to go out and find people.” Gao Qingshan said with difficulty, looking at Xing Zhaozhao, after all, the final decision was still hers.

Xing Zhaozhao looked at the pale-faced child lying on the hospital bed and was caught in a dilemma. She definitely needed to find Fu Lan as soon as possible, but she couldn't bear to leave the child lying there all alone. He looked about the same age as Hongfei, and if something like this happened to her own Hongfei, she would also hope that someone could take good care of him.

Xing Zhaozhao thought for a moment, looked at Gao Qingshan, and said, "How about this, Qingshan, you go out with Uncle Dahan to look for Xiaolan. I'll stay here with this child for now. I'll come find you after we find her parents. Whether we find her or not, just meet at the hospital entrance later."

Gao Qingshan and Da Han exchanged a glance, nodded without objection, and said, "Okay, then it's decided."

After saying that, Gao Qingshan and Da Han left first.

"Thank you for your help." The doctor thanked Xing Zhaozhao and went to get busy.

Xing Zhaozhao sat down by the hospital bed, held the child's little hand, and stayed with him.

The child suddenly tugged at her finger and murmured, "Mommy, I'm thirsty."

Xing Zhaozhao asked the nurse for a cup, poured some water into it, and fed it to him.

The little guy seems to have a fever; his forehead is a bit hot, and there are fine beads of sweat on it.

Xing Zhaozhao wiped him clean, but she was still worried and felt that she should find his parents as soon as possible. She leaned close to his ear and asked tentatively in a low voice, "Can you hear my voice?"

"Hmm," the little guy hummed softly.

"What's your name?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.

"Ling... Ling Ze," the little guy stammered.

Xing Zhaozhao's eyes lit up; there was hope. She continued, "What's your mother's name? Where can I find her?"

The little guy frowned and shook his head: "Mommy, it's gone."

Xing Zhaozhao's heart tightened, and she asked, "What about your father?"

"Dad, Dad is in, in Houxi..." the little guy said.

Xing Zhaozhao frowned, wanting to ask more details: "What kind of place is Houxi? What's your father's name?"

The little one shook his head and began to sob softly, "My head... my head hurts so much, Mommy..."

Xing Zhaozhao quickly called the doctor and nurses over. Seeing them busy taking care of the little guy, she couldn't sit still any longer. She told the doctor and nurses, "I found out where his father is. I'll go find him right now." After saying that, she turned around and walked quickly out.

"Where is his father? Didn't you just arrive in Qingxi Town? Do you know the way?" The doctor turned and followed her, asking.

"I'll just ask someone in Houxi," Xing Zhaozhao said, and quickly walked away.

"Houxi?" The doctor and nurse, who were busy with their work, paused at the same time, looked at each other, and exchanged a surprised glance.

The nurse quickly chased after him, trying to call him back, but he had already disappeared.

The nurse returned with a distressed expression and asked the doctor, "She's unfamiliar with the area; won't something happen to her if she goes there?"

The doctor hesitated for a moment: "Probably not, he's just going to see someone..." But despite his words, the expression on his face showed that he was still very worried.

When Xing Zhaozhao came out of the hospital, she quickly realized that something was wrong. Every time she asked someone about Houxi, they would either look at her in shock, shake their heads in a panic, and say that they didn't know and then leave quickly, or they would look at her as if she were a fool, wondering how she dared to ask about this in the street. The only person who was willing to help her took her to the place, but he also acted suspiciously and quickly ran away.

Xing Zhaozhao: "..."

Xing Zhaozhao didn't understand. Was it really necessary?

It wasn't until she walked into the street behind the stream that she realized why everyone was so wary of it; it turned out to be the black market in Qingxi Town. She was all too familiar with this atmosphere.

Ling Ze? Is his surname Ling? Xing Zhaozhao roughly guessed who she was looking for here.

She walked straight toward the person squatting on the side of the street, who was obviously keeping watch.

The lookouts, seeing Xing Zhaozhao arrive at Houxi so openly, immediately approached them. They became wary, exchanged glances, and surrounded Xing Zhaozhao, asking, "What do you want?"

"Do you know Ling Ze?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.

The men's expressions hardened, and their faces revealed hostility: "What do you want with Ling Ze?"

Xing Zhaozhao smiled and shook her head, saying, "I'm not looking for Ling Ze, I'm looking for Ling Ze's father."

The group of people suddenly realized something, exchanged a helpless look, and asked Xing Zhaozhao, "Did Xiaoze send you here to find his father?"

Xing Zhaozhao nodded: "I guess so."

“Come with me,” one of them said to Xing Zhaozhao as he stepped forward.

Xing Zhaozhao immediately followed.

The man led Xing Zhaozhao to an inconspicuous little house deep in the street.

"Wait here for a moment." The man said to Xing Zhaozhao, then knocked on the door and went in. After a while, he opened the door, looked at Xing Zhaozhao, and said, "You can come in now."

Xing Zhaozhao nodded and went inside.

There were three or four people scattered around the small room. As soon as Xing Zhaozhao entered, they all looked at her with wary eyes.

Xing Zhaozhao didn't take it to heart. She calmly glanced around and her gaze quickly fell on the man sitting upright in the chair. He wore glasses, looked refined, but his eyes were unusually sharp. If she wasn't mistaken, he should be Ling Xiao. He looked too much like Ling Ze. If he took off his glasses, he was just a larger version of Ling Ze. They were obviously father and son.

They seemed to be dealing with something, and a young man was squatting in front of them, trembling and holding his head.

For some reason, Xing Zhaozhao felt that the young man's figure looked somewhat familiar.

When Ling Xiao saw Xing Zhaozhao enter, he was not intimidated by the imposing atmosphere in the room. Instead, he calmly looked around, raised an eyebrow slightly in surprise, and asked, "What good thing has my little rascal done this time?"

"You little brat?" Xing Zhaozhao looked at Ling Xiao in surprise. There seemed to be something wrong with this father and son, but it had nothing to do with her. Now that she had found them and delivered the message, she considered her mission complete.

“It’s definitely not a good thing.” Xing Zhaozhao said, about to tell Ling Xiao about Ling Ze in detail.

The young man, who had been crouching in front of Ling Xiao, trembling with fear, turned around abruptly upon hearing Xing Zhaozhao's voice and exclaimed in surprise and delight, "Sister Xing?!"

Xing Zhaozhao was stunned when she saw the young man's face: "Xiao Fa? What are you doing here?"

That young man was none other than Wang Xiaofa.
