Chapter 123 Help Me

On the way home, Xing Jiashu asked as he drove, "Mom, who is that woman? She looks just like Auntie."

Xing Zhaoming was displeased upon hearing this. His face darkened, and he said, "How is that similar? She has such a bad temper, her mouth is so sharp, she's like a firecracker, she has no manners at all, I don't know whose family raised her. Don't compare that kind of person to your aunt."

Xing Jiashu was most afraid of seeing the old man get angry, so he shrank back and replied, "I know."

The atmosphere in the car became somewhat heavy for a moment.

Chen Wei patted Xing Zhaoming's arm reassuringly, trying to ease the atmosphere, and said to Xing Jiashu, "It must be your uncle's new love."

With Chen Wei mentioned, Xing Jiashu immediately joined in the laughter: "I guessed so. When did this happen? Hongfei never mentioned it before. But I didn't expect Uncle to be so devoted to Aunt, even finding a new lover who looks so much like Aunt..."

It was a rare treat to hear gossip about his serious and upright uncle, and Xing Jiashu was so excited that he accidentally let something slip. By the time he realized his mistake, he quickly shut his mouth, but it was too late.

"I told you not to mention it again, but you still did. Do you think I'm ignoring you?" Xing Zhaoming scolded.

Xing Jiashu tried to explain: "I said uncle, not aunt..."

"He's not allowed to mention it again. From now on, our Xing family will sever all ties with the Gao family. We'll have nothing to do with them anymore," Xing Zhaoming said angrily.

Faced with the old man's intimidation, Xing Jiashu dared not disobey: "I-I understand."

The atmosphere inside the car returned to its previous somber state.

Xing Jiashu exchanged a glance with Chen Wei through the rearview mirror: Mom, think of something.

Chen Wei shrugged helplessly, indicating there was nothing she could do. Even when her father-in-law was angry, she still had to behave herself.

Just then, Chen Wei's cell phone rang in her bag.

She took it out and saw it was an unfamiliar number, but the caller ID showed it was a local number. She hesitated for a moment, then answered: "Hello, who is this?"

"It's me, Chen Wei." Lin Wan's urgent voice came quickly from the phone. She seemed to be hiding from someone, her voice was low.

Chen Wei was unaware that Lin Wan had been locked up in a mental hospital by Gao Hongfei. However, seeing Xing Zhaozhao staying peacefully by Gao Mingcheng's side, she figured that Chen Wan wouldn't be able to cause any trouble. Besides, the old grudges were still there, so she didn't want to bother with her at all.

"You've dialed the wrong number," she dismissed Lin Wan and hung up the phone.

In the innermost stall of the restroom near the open ward of Qingshan Mental Hospital, Lin Wan sat on the toilet, holding a cell phone she had secretly taken from a caregiver, and called Chen Wei.

She finally got through, but before she could even feel happy, Chen Wei hung up the phone without a second thought after she only managed to say one sentence. Furious, she bit her phone and cursed, "Damn it, Chen Wei."

Suddenly, hurried footsteps came from the hallway outside the restroom and then stopped at the door.

Lin Wan was so frightened that she huddled up in a ball, not daring to breathe.

"Something's wrong! An elderly woman who was just admitted to the open ward has gone missing. The hospital director specifically instructed us to keep a close eye on her."

"They can't have escaped; they must be hiding somewhere. Let's find them quickly."

After saying that, the footsteps quickly disappeared.

Lin Wan breathed a sigh of relief and quickly continued calling Chen Wei, muttering through gritted teeth, "If you dare hang up on me again, don't blame me for being ruthless."

After hanging up Lin Wan's call, Chen Wei felt inexplicably uneasy, as if something was about to happen.

Just then, her phone rang again in her bag.

Chen Wei shuddered in fright.

Xing Zhaoming turned his head curiously and asked, "What's wrong?"

Chen Wei forced a smile and said, "It's nothing, I was just startled by the sudden ringing of the phone."

It's just a phone call, is it really that big of a deal?

Xing Zhaoming didn't understand, but he didn't say anything.

Chen Wei quickly took her phone out of her bag, and sure enough, it was that phone number again.

A shadow crossed her eyes, and without thinking, she hung up.

Lin Wan was furious and continued hitting him.

Chen Wei continued hanging up.

This happened several times. When the phone rang again, even Xing Jiashu, who was driving, sensed something was wrong. He glanced at Chen Wei and asked, "Mom, who's calling? Is it something urgent?"

Chen Wei hung up again, feigning composure and laughing, "It's nothing, just a nuisance call."

No sooner had he finished speaking than the phone rang again.

Xing Zhaoming couldn't hold back any longer. He frowned and was about to say something when he saw that Chen Wei had also reached her limit. Her face darkened, and she quickly answered the phone.

As soon as the call connected, before Chen Wei could say anything, Lin Wan started threateningly on the other end of the line: "If you dare hang up on me again, I'll tell Xing Zhaoming everything about you."

Chen Wei's face turned pale instantly. She looked up at Xing Jiashu in the driver's seat and said, "Stop the car."

"Huh?" Xing Jiashu didn't react for a moment and looked over in surprise.

Chen Wei was getting impatient and rushed behind Xing Jiashu, saying, "I said stop the car."

Xing Jiashu was startled and instinctively slammed on the brakes, pulling the car to the side of the road.

As soon as the car came to a stop, Chen Wei hurriedly got out and ran away.

This was the first time Xing Jiashu had seen Chen Wei so flustered. He turned to Xing Zhaoming and asked, "Dad, what's wrong with Mom?"

Xing Zhaoming frowned as he watched Chen Wei run away quickly, then shook his head, equally confused.

After a moment of silence, he got out of the car and said, "I'll go take a look..."

Once she was sure she was far enough away, Chen Wei brought the phone to her ear and angrily demanded, "What exactly do you want to do?"

"I'm in Qingshan Mental Hospital right now. You need to find a way to get me out," Lin Wan said.

"Huh?" Chen Wei was stunned. "How did you end up in a mental hospital?"

"It's all Gao Hongfei's doing." Lin Wan gritted her teeth and told Chen Wei everything that happened that day. "Even that brat Chen Xiaxia sided with them and tricked me."

Upon hearing this, Chen Wei felt extremely pleased and couldn't help but laugh out loud: "You got what you deserved!"

Lin Wan's face darkened: "Are you going to help me or not?"

"Help you? Why should I help you? Would I help you so you can continue to suck my blood?" Chen Wei said coldly.

"Aren't you afraid I'll tell Xing Zhaoming all those things?" Lin Wan threatened.

"Tell Zhaoming?" Chen Wei chuckled. "Don't forget, you're in a mental hospital now, and you can't get out. How are you going to tell Zhaoming? As far as I know, you can't just make phone calls from inside, right? Although I don't know how you contacted me this time, judging from your sneaky behavior, I know you didn't use normal methods. Do you think you'll have the chance to use it a second time after you've used it once?"
