When Fu Hong came home from get off work that evening, she heard that Grandma Fu was going to take Fu Lan and Lin Wan to Qingxi Town to meet potential partners the next day. She frowned and asked, "Why does it have to be Qingxi Town?"
Grandma Fu repeated the same story Lin Wan had told her to Fu Hong.
Fu Hong still disagreed, saying, "After all, it's a major life event like marriage. There's no need to rush things or be so hasty. Besides, Xiao Lan is still young, so there's no need to be so impatient."
Grandma Fu disagreed, glaring at Fu Hong: "Such a good prospect, if you don't work harder and hurry, what if someone snatches him away?"
"That means we're not meant to be. Just wait a bit longer, and fate will bring us together again," Fu Hong said.
Grandma Fu looked coldly at Fu Hong: "So, you weren't proactive before and someone stole your chance. Now that you've waited so long, have you found a new one?"
Fu Hong: "..."
Fu Hong shut up; she couldn't win the argument.
However, thinking about how Fu Lan was going to go to Qingxi Town, a place she didn't know, with her grandmother, and remembering Xing Zhaozhao's instructions to her, Fu Hong was really worried and said to her grandmother, "I'll go with you tomorrow."
Grandma Fu initially refused, saying, "No need, your sister Wan is here, and we're all grown up, we won't lose face."
Fu Hong insisted, "Grandma, you're getting old, Xiao Lan is still young, and Sister Wan seems to be unwell lately. If something really happens, she probably won't be able to help. Let me go with her. Besides, it concerns Xiao Lan's lifelong happiness, and I still want to help make an opinion."
Grandma Fu thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement: "Okay then."
The next morning, as the sun's rays shone into Dacheng Street, Grandma Fu, dressed in her new clothes, happily took her two granddaughters out.
Lin Wan was already waiting for them outside. After resting for a night, she felt a little better. Although she was still not feeling well, she could only endure it to avoid making things difficult.
In the Qin family next door, Xiao Qin Shi, rubbing his sleepy eyes, had just gotten up, scooped a cup of water from the water vat, and was squatting in the yard brushing his teeth when he suddenly heard a noise next door. Curious, he opened the door and took a look. What he saw immediately startled him awake.
Before she could even wipe the foam from her mouth, Xiao Qinshi rushed over and grabbed Fu Lan, who was about to leave with Lin Wan and Grandma Fu, asking, "Sister Xiao Lan, where are you going?"
Lin Wan knew that the Qin family was close to Xing Zhaozhao, so when she saw Xiao Qin, she made no attempt to hide her disgust and immediately scolded, "This is none of your business, get out of here."
Xiao Qin held Fu Lan's hand tightly, refusing to let go: "No, I promised Sister Xing that I would watch over Sister Xiao Lan. She can't go anywhere."
Grandma Fu had a falling out with Old Madam Qin before, so she didn't like the Qin family. She only refrained from arguing with Qin Shi because he was still a child. But now, when she heard Qin Shi mention Xing Zhaozhao, she couldn't help but get angry. She forcefully pulled Qin Shi away from Fu Lan's hand, grabbed him, and headed towards the Qin family home, saying, "This is a family matter, it has nothing to do with your Qin family. Go back home."
Xiao Qin struggled desperately: "No, you can't take Sister Xiao Lan with you!"
Hearing the commotion outside, Old Mrs. Qin rushed out, asking, "What happened?"
Grandma Fu pushed little Qin Shi directly into Grandma Qin's arms, looked at her coldly, and said irritably, "Please take care of your own child and stop interfering in our family's affairs, or we won't be neighbors anymore."
After saying that, Grandma Fu turned around and went back, pulling Fu Lan, who kept turning her head to look at Xiao Qin, and left with Lin Wan.
"Sister Xiaolan." Xiao Qin wanted to chase after her.
Fu Lan waved to him from afar and said, "It's alright. I'm going to Qingxi Town with Grandma and my sister. I'll be back soon, so don't worry." Grandma and her sister were both by her side, and Grandma had promised her that she wouldn't force her, so she felt there shouldn't be any problems.
Xiao Qin Shi watched Fu Lan disappear quickly at the street corner, his brows furrowed with worry.
Beside her, Old Mrs. Qin also looked worried: "What are they going to Qingxi Town for? To find a partner? Why do they have to go all the way to Qingxi Town? Wasn't the man supposed to be from the city? If they really wanted to find a partner, they should have gone to the city, if not Lanyuan Town..."
Hearing this, Xiao Qin felt a pang of anxiety and asked, "Grandma, will Sister Xiao Lan be alright?"
"Probably not," Grandma Qin said, though she wasn't entirely sure. Although the whole thing was strange, as Fu Lan herself said, Grandma Fu and Fu Hong were both around, so nothing should happen, right?
Xiao Qin hesitated for a moment, but still couldn't shake the feeling of unease: "No, I have to go find Sister Xing." With that, he turned and ran.
Grandma Qin stopped him.
Xiao Qin thought that Grandma Qin wouldn't allow him to go, so he turned around anxiously and said, "Grandma, don't stop me, I have to go. Sister Xiaolan has helped me so much, I can't let anything happen to her."
Grandma Qin glared at him: "When did I ever stop you from going?" After saying that, she turned around and went to the kitchen, took two steamed buns back and stuffed them into his hands, "Take these and eat them on the way, be careful."
"Okay." Xiao Qin took a big bite of the bun and quickly disappeared.
