Xing Zhaozhao opened her eyes, stared blankly at the unfamiliar white ceiling above her head, and after a moment of surprise, she suddenly sat up in bed and looked around.
Where is this? Last night she just wanted to sneak through the door and hide for a while, how did she end up here?
Just then, the door creaked open and the nurse walked in. Seeing her sitting there looking around, she quickly went over and helped her lie down: "Why are you sitting up? You just had surgery and your wound hasn't healed yet. You can't do anything too strenuous."
"Excuse me, where is this place...?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.
"You didn't know?" The nurse looked at her in surprise, and after a moment, she remembered, "I almost forgot, you were already unconscious when you were brought in last night."
"This is Lanyuan Central Hospital. You were seriously injured last night and were brought here after being discovered," the nurse said. "Fortunately, you were brought here in time, otherwise, you might have lost too much blood and your life would have been in danger."
Xing Zhaozhao was still somewhat shaken after hearing this.
"Who brought me to the hospital?" she asked the nurse.
"It's an old man," the nurse said.
"Where is he? Can we still contact him?" Xing Zhaozhao asked. "I want to thank him."
"Uh..." The nurse stammered, looking at her with an embarrassed expression.
Xing Zhaozhao sensed something was wrong: "What's wrong?"
"When he brought you here, he told the doctors and nurses that you were her lover," the nurse said.
Xing Zhaozhao stared wide-eyed, her face filled with disbelief: "That shameless old scoundrel, I'm not like that."
“I knew it,” the nurse said knowingly.
Xing Zhaozhao couldn't help but roll up her sleeves: "Where is he now?"
“He was arrested by the police last night,” the nurse said.
Xing Zhaozhao snorted coldly: "Serves you right."
“They all suspect he’s a woman trafficker,” the nurse continued.
Xing Zhaozhao: "...It's not that bad."
"Will he be alright?" Xing Zhaozhao asked. "Even though he's a scoundrel, we can't wrong him. After all, he saved my life."
The nurse smiled and said, "No, as long as he didn't do anything, the police won't wrong him."
"That's good." Xing Zhaozhao breathed a sigh of relief.
The nurse checked her wound.
"When can I expect to be discharged from the hospital?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.
"Let's observe for two more days. If the wound heals well, you can be discharged," the nurse said.
“But I’m in a hurry to get home,” Xing Zhaozhao said, frowning slightly.
I don't know what the situation is like back home. If she doesn't see anyone for too long, her two children will probably be worried sick.
"This can't be rushed. If you really want to be discharged, you can ask the doctor when he comes to check on you later," the nurse said.
"I understand." Xing Zhaozhao nodded helplessly. That's all we can do now.
After the nurse finished her examination and was about to leave, she turned back to her and said, "Because you have a knife wound, in principle you should call the police. Now that you are awake, the hospital will notify the police immediately. The police should be coming to take your statement in a little while. Get ready."
After saying that, the nurse left.
Upon hearing this, Xing Zhaozhao's temples throbbed.
She was about to meet the police again, but she didn't want to. As an undocumented immigrant, the more police she met, the greater the chance of her being exposed.
Xing Zhaozhao frowned and thought for a moment, then decided to give up.
She tried her best not to aggravate her wound, carefully got out of bed, found her clothes, changed, and sneaked out of the ward to go home.
At that moment, Gao Mingcheng had just arrived at the hospital entrance in his car.
As soon as I got off the bus, I smelled the delicious aroma wafting from the breakfast shop across the street, and my stomach rumbled involuntarily.
Gao Mingcheng thought for a moment, then walked straight over.
By this time, Zhao Zhao should have finished her surgery. Although he didn't know if she was awake yet, he knew she would be hungry when she did, so he planned to buy her more of what she liked.
Gao Mingcheng, his hands full of bags, had just come out of the breakfast shop when he saw a familiar figure walking out of the hospital across the street, looking around furtively.
Gao Mingcheng's eyes lit up.
She's awake?
His face immediately darkened.
She just had surgery, who gave her permission to sneak out? This is utterly ridiculous.
Gao Mingcheng immediately chased after Xing Zhaozhao: "Zhaozhao..."
Xing Zhaozhao had just sneaked out of the hospital, thinking she had gotten away unnoticed, when she suddenly heard someone calling her from behind. Startled, she immediately stopped in her tracks.
Who is it?
She turned her head to look in the direction the sound came from, but before she could see the person's face clearly, a motorcycle sped past her, almost touching her.
Xing Zhaozhao froze instantly, not daring to move an inch.
If no one had called out, if she had taken just one more step forward, even just a small step...
She couldn't even imagine what the consequences would be.
Realizing what had happened, Xing Zhaozhao couldn't help but tremble all over.
Just then, a broad chest pressed against her from behind, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her into an embrace. The man rested his chin on her head, nuzzled her hair, sighed softly, and said, "You scared me to death just now, you know?"
Xing Zhaozhao's body stiffened again.
That sound is...
She turned around abruptly and looked behind her, meeting those familiar eyes and brows, and involuntarily held her breath.
"Is it you?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
Gao Mingcheng's eyes reddened as he stared intently at the woman in front of him and nodded gently: "It's me."
Xing Zhaozhao's hands trembled as she touched his face.
Same eyebrows, same eyes, same nose, same lips.
It just has a lot more wrinkles now.
Her voice choked with emotion: "You're old."
"Hmm, so many years have passed, I must be getting old." Gao Mingcheng responded softly, patted her head, and said, "But you, you're still the same as before."
Xing Zhaozhao sobbed and buried her face in his chest: "I thought I would never see you again."
Gao Mingcheng hugged her tightly: "I'm sorry."
"Gurgle," Xing Zhaozhao's stomach suddenly growled.
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
Xing Zhaozhao: "..."
They came at the worst possible time, ruining the atmosphere.
Gao Mingcheng chuckled softly: "Hungry?"
"Mmm," Xing Zhaozhao said shyly.
"I bought you breakfast, let's go back to the ward to eat." Gao Mingcheng pulled Xing Zhaozhao, and they were about to go back to the hospital.
Xing Zhaozhao grabbed him, insisting, "I'm not going back to the hospital."
She tried to pull him away, but Gao Mingcheng couldn't budge her at all, so he had no choice but to give in: "Fine, let's go back to the breakfast shop."
