Gao Mingcheng, leading Zhao Bin, quickly found the dense forest where the tomb robber's hole was located: "This is it."
This wasn't Zhao Bin's first time in the mountains. Due to his work, he often needed to go into the mountains to find people, so he was quite familiar with this place. However, looking at the dense forest around him, he couldn't help but sigh, "It's well hidden." Even experienced hunters would be extremely cautious if they came into this place.
Zhao Bin looked around but couldn't find the tomb raider's hole Gao Mingcheng had mentioned. He asked in surprise, "Where's the tomb raider's hole? Where is it? I can't see it."
After he finished speaking, he saw Gao Mingcheng bending down and searching for something under the surrounding trees. Curious, he went over and asked, "What are you looking for?"
“A robbery hole,” Gao Mingcheng said.
Zhao Bin was taken aback: "Didn't you already find it before?"
“We found it, but the tunnel is quite well hidden. When we left, we were afraid of alerting the thieves, so we specially restored the cover to its original state. Without a marker, it would be impossible to find. If you don’t believe me, you can look for it yourself. Anyway, it’s in this area,” Gao Mingcheng said.
Zhao Bin looked around blankly. All around him were trees, grass, and bushes. It was all green as far as the eye could see, so it would be strange if he could find anything.
He gave up and turned to look at Gao Mingcheng: "What mark? I'll help you find it."
“It’s an arrow…” Gao Mingcheng paused in his hand movements as soon as he finished speaking. “Found it.”
Zhao Bin leaned closer to take a look and barely managed to spot an inconspicuous one-way arrow in the rough texture of the bark: "..." It was well hidden; if you didn't know, you really wouldn't be able to tell it was an arrow at first glance.
Then, Zhao Bin watched as Gao Mingcheng walked in the direction the arrow pointed to, stopped on a meadow not far from them, and said, "This is it."
Zhao Bin: "??" Are you sure? How did you know?
Zhao Bin walked over and saw Gao Mingcheng squatting down, trying to pry open the turf in front of him. He couldn't help but want to laugh. "Look at you, trying to pry it open?"
Before he could even utter a word, he actually watched as Gao Mingcheng pried open the patch of grass in front of him, revealing a dark hole underneath, and he stood there dumbfounded.
"Look, this is it," Gao Mingcheng said, turning to Zhao Bin.
Zhao Bin swallowed hard. Luckily, he hadn't managed to say those sarcastic words, or he would have been embarrassed.
He gave Gao Mingcheng a thumbs up: "You're awesome."
After saying that, he walked over and peered into the hole. It was pitch black, and he couldn't see the bottom at all. He frowned with worry and said, "It looks very deep. Can we really go down?"
"No problem, Zhao Zhao and I have already gone down to check." Gao Mingcheng said, taking out the prepared rope, tying it to a tree not far away, and climbing down the rope first.
If a woman dares to go down there, there's no reason why a grown man like him wouldn't dare. Zhao Bin took a deep breath, calmed his somewhat uneasy heart, and climbed down the rope to follow her down into the tunnel.
As soon as they landed, Gao Mingcheng handed Zhao Bin a flashlight. Zhao Bin took it and shone it on the tomb chamber behind him. He couldn't help but hiss softly, "There's quite a lot of stuff here."
Together with Gao Mingcheng, he opened all the boxes and examined them one by one. Most of them contained antiques of all kinds, as well as some jade jewelry. The person who would go to such lengths to hide these things here must have questionable origins. If that person were caught, they would probably be in deep trouble.
"Ah Bin, come and take a look at this," Gao Mingcheng called out.
Zhao Bin walked over and took a look, then exclaimed "Whoa!"
The two boxes that Gao Mingcheng opened were made of different materials than the others. They were made of thick, high-quality camphor wood, and inside, in addition to antiques and paintings, there were also a lot of jewelry and even a box of large yellow croakers.
Zhao Bin quickly realized: "Did they dig up some wealthy family's hidden escape route? They've really got some nerve, daring to do something like this right under the noses of our security brigade."
"We have to catch him." He turned to Gao Mingcheng and said seriously.
Gao Mingcheng recalled what Xing Zhaozhao had told him about the good deeds Liu Feiyue had done later, a cold glint flashed in his eyes, and he nodded. He felt the same way; it was better to deal with such a menace as soon as possible to avoid causing endless harm.
Zhao Bin swept his flashlight to the side, landing on the dark tomb passage leading to other places.
"Where is it going?" Zhao Bin asked, shining his flashlight.
"They must have gone to other tomb chambers," Gao Mingcheng said.
"Can we go take a look?" Zhao Bin asked.
Gao Mingcheng hesitated for a moment, then nodded: "We can give it a try."
Zhao Bin walked straight towards the tomb passage: "What's over there? Did you go take a look when you came before?"
“No, Zhao Zhao wanted to go, but I didn’t agree. It’s too dangerous,” Gao Mingcheng said.
Zhao Bin had already entered the tomb passage when he heard this. He paused, turned back to look at Gao Mingcheng, his eyes filled with sorrow. So, if it were him, he wouldn't care whether Gao Mingcheng lived or died, right?
Gao Mingcheng shuddered when the burly man, who was over six feet tall, gave him a mournful look. He glanced at him and asked coolly, "What? Scared?"
Zhao Bin chuckled: "Scared? What a joke."
"Then hurry up and move forward," Gao Mingcheng urged, pointing ahead with his flashlight.
Zhao Bin swallowed hard again, and while carefully continuing to walk forward, he said nervously, "If anything unexpected happens later, remember to give me a hand."
"What kind of unexpected events could we encounter here?" Gao Mingcheng asked.
“When my grandfather was a child, he liked to go to teahouses to listen to storytellers. The storytellers said that ancient tombs were full of traps and mechanisms, and if you weren’t careful, you would die,” Zhao Bin said.
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
"Do storytellers still talk about these things?" Gao Mingcheng asked.
“Of course, it’s such a wonderful story,” Zhao Bin said. “My grandfather remembered it his whole life and still tells it to me.”
"Since it's just a story, why did you take it so seriously?" Gao Mingcheng asked.
Zhao Bin: "..."
Zhao Bin turned and glared at Gao Mingcheng, embarrassed and annoyed: "Better safe than sorry, understand?"
"I understand. I've been listening to storytelling so much that I've gone crazy," Gao Mingcheng said frankly.
Zhao Bin: "..."
The two carefully made their way through the tomb passage, but nothing happened.
Gao Mingcheng glanced at Zhao Bin speechlessly.
Zhao Bin coughed lightly and glared back: "What's wrong with being cautious?"
Gao Mingcheng ignored him and shone his flashlight into the tomb chamber in front of him. Unexpectedly, the light fell on several skeletons lying in front of another tomb passage.
Both of them turned serious at the same time.
Not knowing when or how those people died, the two men dared not advance and quickly retreated.
"See, I told you there was definitely a trap, but you wouldn't listen," Zhao Bin grumbled.
Gao Mingcheng rolled his eyes, too lazy to pay him any attention. Although those skeletons had been dead for a long time, their bodies and surroundings were clean, not like they had been killed by external forces. How could there be any traps or mechanisms?
When the two men crawled out of the tunnel, it was already getting dark.
"Oh no, it's getting dark. If we don't hurry back, it'll be difficult to walk in the woods at night," Zhao Bin said, glancing up at the sky.
"Where are you going?" Gao Mingcheng covered up the hole again, picked up his pack, and looked around for a suitable ambush location.
Zhao Bin was taken aback, then turned to Gao Mingcheng in confusion: "Why are you staying here instead of leaving?"
"Didn't you say you were going to catch that person? If you're not here guarding him, how are you going to catch him?" Gao Mingcheng said matter-of-factly.
Zhao Bin was startled: "Start now?"
“What else? If he happens to come over tonight, and you miss him, when are you going to get another chance?” Gao Mingcheng said.
Zhao Bin hesitated for a moment: "But I haven't prepared anything."
Gao Mingcheng patted his backpack: "It's okay, I'm ready."
Zhao Bin: "..." He had been wondering why he had brought so much stuff on his trip into the mountains. Turns out, this was what was waiting for him. Unfortunately, it was too late to regret it now.
"Well... alright then," Zhao Bin reluctantly agreed.
Gao Mingcheng quickly chose a suitable ambush location. He figured Liu Feiyue was busy keeping an eye on the Fu family and wouldn't come into the mountains. He boldly took out the pots and pans that Xing Zhaozhao had given him in his bag and prepared to have dinner.
Zhao Bin was stunned to see so many things stuffed in his bag. He waited until Gao Mingcheng started cooking noodles, and smelling the aroma, he couldn't wait to go over.
"This noodle is so weird, how did it get rolled up? Is the noodle permed too? Haha."
"Did you make this seasoning yourself, sister-in-law? It smells so good, cook more."
"Waaaaah, this smells so good..."
Gao Mingcheng: "..." Even eating can't shut him up.
