Chapter 371 I am not Zhaozhao

Xing Zhaoming, holding onto the chair, staggered and sat down.

"You kept it from me for so long, why are you willing to tell me now?" he asked Gao Mingcheng.

“I’m not Zhao Zhao, I don’t have so many concerns. Since you’ve come looking for me, I’ll make sure you die knowing why,” Gao Mingcheng said.

“You’re blaming me.” Xing Zhaoming looked at Gao Mingcheng and immediately understood.

“Likewise,” Gao Mingcheng replied.

Xing Zhaoming fell silent.

When news of Xing Zhaozhao's death reached him, he rushed back immediately, and the first thing he did upon seeing Gao Mingcheng was to beat him up.

His beloved younger sister married him, and at such a young age, she and her child died tragically, leaving her emaciated and barely recognizable as a human being. How could he, as her older brother, bear to see her like that?

Gao Mingcheng had just returned from the front lines and was still recovering from his injuries when Xing Zhaoming beat him up and sent him to the hospital that same day. After a quick bandage, he returned to handle Xing Zhaozhao's funeral arrangements.

When they met again, Xing Zhaoming didn't hold back and continued to beat him. If Xiao Hongfei hadn't hugged him, cried to him, and begged him, Gao Mingcheng would probably have spent the entire funeral of Xing Zhaoming in a hospital bed.

In every subsequent meeting, Xing Zhaoming never spoke, but always took the initiative to attack first, and Gao Mingcheng never resisted, always enduring it passively.

Xing Zhaoming only stopped when Gao Mingcheng quietly dealt with all the culprits in his family, young and old, except for the innocent children.

Only now did Xing Zhaoming belatedly realize that he wasn't entirely innocent either.

Xing Zhaoming thought of Chen Wei, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. Where exactly did things go wrong?

Chen Wei came from a privileged background, and apart from being a little spoiled, that was something he liked; she was always gentle and considerate.

Because their parents died early, he and Zhao Zhao grew up relying on each other and developed a deep bond. He mentioned this to Chen Wei more than once, and Chen Wei also said that she would treat Zhao Zhao as her own younger sister.

After they got married, the three of them lived together and always got along very well.

It wasn't until Zhao Zhao and Gao Mingcheng confirmed their relationship that she hastily got married at the young age of 18. He had told her long ago that he wanted her to stay at home for a couple more years, but she not only didn't listen, but also got married early. After getting married, she became estranged from him, her older brother, and they didn't see each other much anymore. At that time, although he and Gao Mingcheng were no longer in the same unit, they were not far apart, so it was still easy for them to visit each other.

He had always thought that it was Gao Mingcheng, that bastard, who was causing trouble and ruining his relationship with his sister. Now, thinking about it, he felt a chill run down his spine. It turned out that he had been looking at the wrong person all along. So, how much had the person who had shared a bed with him for so many years been hiding from him?

Xing Zhaoming felt a shiver run through his body.

Suddenly, a string of light and cheerful music filled the oppressive room.

Everyone looked toward Gao Hongfei, following the direction from which the sound came.

Gao Hongfei took out his ringing phone, glanced at it, and looked at Xing Zhaoming: "It's Jia Shu calling."

Xing Zhaoming frowned.

Gao Hongfei answered the phone.

"Is my dad with you?" Xing Jiashu asked directly over the phone.

Gao Hongfei glanced at Xing Zhaoming again and nodded: "Yes, he just arrived."

"Let my dad answer the phone," Xing Jiashu said.

Gao Hongfei handed his phone to Xing Zhaoming: "Jia Shu is looking for you."

Xing Zhaoming took it: "Hello?"

Upon hearing Xing Zhaoming's voice, Xing Jiashu couldn't help but complain, "Dad, what's wrong with you? What important thing happened that you left Mom alone in the hospital and ran off without your phone? I can't contact you at all."

Xing Zhaoming touched his pocket and realized that Chen Wei had casually put his phone in her bag when he left yesterday, and he hadn't taken it with him.

"What is it?" Xing Zhaoming asked.

“Mom fainted suddenly after you left her at the hospital yesterday and is now hospitalized. She’s not in good spirits, and even my uncle was alarmed. You should come back as soon as possible,” Xing Jiashu urged.

In the past, Xing Zhaoming would have rushed back without a second thought, but now, he couldn't help but overthink it.

"She suddenly fainted after I left?" He asked, his eyes flickering. Was there something wrong with her health, or did she know he had come to find Zhao Zhao and might know something, and she panicked?

"Hmm." Xing Jiashu responded, but quickly sensed that something was wrong. In the past, when his father heard that his mother was not feeling well, he would get anxious immediately. Why did he sound so... indifferent this time?

"Dad, is something wrong between you and Mom?" Xing Jiashu asked.

Xing Zhaoming didn't say much, only that, "I'm going back right now, we'll talk when we meet." After saying that, he hung up the phone without waiting for Xing Jiashu to say anything.

"I need to go back to the capital immediately. I'll ask Chen Wei about Zhao Zhao's matter and give you an explanation then," Xing Zhaoming said earnestly, looking at Gao Mingcheng.

After saying that, he got up to leave.

Gao Hongfei stood up and said, "Uncle, you must have come by train yesterday and didn't sleep all night, right? You're not young anymore, this can't take you. I'll have someone arrange a private plane for you to go back, so you can get some rest on the way."

Xing Zhaoming shook his head, wanting to refuse: "No need..."

"If I collapse from exhaustion, Mom will worry," Gao Hongfei said, bringing up Xing Zhaozhao.

Xing Zhaoming thought of his younger sister, his throat tightened, and he obediently nodded, no longer refusing.

In Beijing, at a hospital, in Chen Wei's ward.

Xing Jiashu wanted to ask more questions, but Xing Zhaoming had already hung up the phone.

He turned to look at Chen Wei, who was lying on the hospital bed beside him, looking at him expectantly, and asked, "Mom, is something wrong between you and Dad?"

Chen Wei's heart skipped a beat, and she looked at Xing Jiashu nervously: "What? Did your dad say something to you?"

Xing Jiashu shook his head: "No, I just felt his attitude was a bit strange."

Chen Wei was relieved when Xing Jiashu said "no," but upon hearing the second half of the sentence, she immediately became concerned again and asked, "What's your attitude?"

Looking at Chen Wei's delicate appearance, Xing Jiashu was afraid that if he said anything, it would make her overthink and wouldn't be good for her health, so he shook his head and didn't say anything: "It's nothing."

"Really?" Chen Wei asked, half believing it.

"Of course it's true. When have I ever lied to you?" Xing Jiashu said with a smile.

"That's true." Chen Wei finally felt completely relieved and looked at Xing Jiashu, continuing to ask, "Did your dad say when he'll be back?"

“He said immediately,” Xing Jiashu said.

Chen Wei smiled sweetly: "I knew it."

At the same time, she made up her mind that once Xing Zhaoming returned, she would keep him under control and not let him have any chance to run back to Lanyuan and see Xing Zhaoming again.

Or, why not just get rid of them?

Chen Wei pondered to herself, glancing hesitantly at her older brother Chen Hao sitting to the side. Others might not be able to deal with Gao Mingcheng, but her older brother should be able to, right?

Chen Hao's hair was still gray, but he was still energetic and had a shrewd look on his face.

Seeing Chen Wei looking at him hesitantly, Chen Hao asked directly, "What's wrong?"

When Chen Wei met Chen Hao's gaze, her heart skipped a beat, and she shook her head: "It's nothing." She decided to let it go; her older brother wasn't easy to fool, especially since he would probably not be happy to face Gao Mingcheng over something like this.

Chen Hao narrowed his eyes slightly: "Really nothing? I feel like there's something going on between you and Zhaoming?"

Chen Wei glared at Chen Hao: "Big brother, don't talk nonsense. Zhaoming and I are doing great."

Chen Hao looked intently at Chen Wei: "Really? I hope what you're saying is the truth. Don't make things so irreparable that even I can't help you."

Chen Wei's heart skipped a beat, and she began to hesitate again: Should she tell him?

Before hesitating for a moment, it was afternoon. Xing Zhaoming boarded the private plane that Gao Hongfei had arranged for him and rushed back to Beijing as quickly as possible.
