"Wait there, I'll be right there." Gao Mingcheng said solemnly, then hung up the phone. He then called his driver, who pulled him out of bed, got dressed, and rushed out the door.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Ying Rongrong as soon as he came out of the room.
Two weeks ago, Ying Rongrong heard from Gao Han that Gao Hongfei kept calling someone "Mom" so affectionately. She was worried that he might have relapsed into his old habit, so she rushed over from Beijing to interrogate him.
Gao Hongfei casually dismissed her, saying, "You don't need to worry about this."
Ying Rongrong was so angry that she couldn't help but pinch him: "If you keep doing the same old thing, and something happens in the future, I'll tell Dad, and if Dad beats you again, don't blame me for not warning you."
Tell Dad?
Gao Hongfei chuckled. He didn't even bother to talk to him anymore. He didn't even know who the person who was always competing with him for his mother was, yet she told his father.
However, Gao Hongfei thought again that after all, she was his wife, and it wouldn't be right to keep it from her forever, so he tentatively asked her, "If I told you that my mother is back, would you believe me?"
Ying Rongrong was taken aback: "What did you say, Mom?"
“What other mother could she be? My mother, my biological mother,” Gao Hongfei said.
Ying Rongrong reached out and touched Gao Hongfei's forehead: "Do you have a fever? Our mother is long gone, how could she come back?" Come back my foot! Oh, if she really became a ghost, she might actually come back, but unfortunately there are no ghosts in this world.
"If you don't want to talk about it, then forget it. Why try to fool me with something like this?" Ying Rongrong glared at Gao Hongfei with disdain and said.
Gao Hongfei: "..." He was clearly telling the truth.
"By the way, have you asked Dad about the fact that you have three more siblings? What's the situation?" Ying Rongrong still remembered the reason why Gao Hongfei suddenly ran back from Beijing this time.
Gao Hongfei's expression was somewhat inscrutable: "I'm going to tell you that they are actually my siblings from the same mother, do you believe me?" One of them was even himself.
Ying Rongrong stared at Gao Hongfei for a while, her mind blank for a moment, before she quickly turned and left: "If you don't want to talk about it, then forget it. Anyway, you don't need your dad's inheritance."
Gao Hongfei: "..." He was really telling the truth.
Gao Hongfei planned to stay in Lanyuan Town and didn't intend to return to the capital for the time being, so Ying Rongrong also stayed.
That night, it was already late, and Gao Hongfei was still busy with his work in the study, not asleep. Ying Rongrong went to the kitchen to heat up a glass of milk for him. Unexpectedly, she ran into Gao Mingcheng as soon as she came out of the kitchen.
Late at night, Ying Rongrong was startled to see Gao Mingcheng, dressed neatly with a gloomy expression, come out of the room. She patted her chest, still somewhat shaken, and looked at Gao Mingcheng in confusion, asking, "Dad? It's so late, why aren't you asleep yet?"
"Can't sleep? Go for a walk." Gao Mingcheng said coldly, glancing at the milk in her hand, and asked, "Hongfei isn't asleep yet?"
"Mm." Ying Rongrong nodded.
I thought the old man would ask a few more questions out of concern, but to my surprise, he just hummed in response and left.
Watching Gao Mingcheng leave, Ying Rongrong asked worriedly, "It's so late, Dad, are you sure you're okay going out alone?"
"Hmm." Gao Mingcheng simply responded with a faint "hmm" and went straight out the door.
Ying Rongrong went to the study, handed the milk to Gao Hongfei, and said, "Dad just went out."
Gao Hongfei had just taken a sip of milk and almost choked. He glanced at the time and asked in surprise, "At this hour?"
Ying Rongrong nodded: "She said she couldn't sleep, so she went out for a walk."
Gao Hongfei had no doubts: "He's getting old, so he probably doesn't sleep much. Don't worry about him. Lanyuan is a safe place, so nothing will happen. Even if he does run into some petty thief, with his current skills, he'll be more than capable of dealing with him."
As Gao Hongfei spoke, he patted Ying Rongrong and said, "It's getting late, you should go to sleep."
Ying Rongrong nodded: "Don't stay up too late either."
She should have kept quiet, because once she did, Gao Hongfei couldn't help but darken his face: "It's all that bastard Gao Han's fault. He dumped all his work on me and took his wife out to play."
Ying Rongrong chuckled and gently patted him: "Why call his own wife 'Guai' (meaning 'stray')? Just bear with it a little longer. They'll be back next month when the new Zhaohong Hotel opens."
Gao Hongfei's face darkened, and he looked displeased: "No, I have to call that kid Gao Yang back and continue to exploit him."
"Come on, Xiao Yang is in charge of everything in the capital, he's so busy he'd practically split every minute in two. You still want to exploit him? Do you want to bury your child?" Ying Rongrong glared at him and said.
"Why don't we call Dad over? He can't sleep anyway, so it's pointless to waste his time," Gao Hongfei suddenly suggested.
“If you have the guts to say it, I have no objection, but do you dare?” Ying Rongrong asked.
Gao Hongfei: "..."
Gao Hongfei thought about it and decided against it. He couldn't take the beating, so he had no choice but to continue burning himself out and making the most of his remaining energy. What a life of toil!
Ying Rongrong returned to her room and was about to go to sleep when she suddenly heard the sound of a car outside.
Out of curiosity, she went to the window and peeked out. Her room's window faced the front door, and she saw Gao Mingcheng get into a car. It looked very familiar; it was their family's car.
A hint of doubt flashed through Ying Rongrong's mind. Didn't the old man say he couldn't sleep and went for a walk? Why did he leave by car? And so late at night, it was obvious he had called the driver himself.
Gao Mingcheng arrived at the foot of the mountain by car, told the driver, "Wait here," and hurriedly went up the mountain.
Soon, Gao Mingcheng reached the mountainside and saw Xing Zhaozhao sitting motionless on a pile of stones in front of the abandoned cellar, hugging her knees, like a child being covered up. His heart tightened.
“Zhao Zhao…” Gao Mingcheng called out.
Xing Zhaozhao suddenly looked up and saw that familiar figure. Her nose tingled with emotion, and she stood up and rushed over: "Mingcheng..."
Hearing her choked voice, Gao Mingcheng's heart clenched. He hugged her tightly, patted her back reassuringly, and said, "It's alright, I'm here, don't be afraid."
Once Xing Zhaozhao had calmed down a bit, Gao Mingcheng pulled her to sit down on the pile of stones and asked her in detail about what had happened.
Xing Zhaozhao had nothing to hide from Gao Mingcheng, so she held his hand tightly and told him the whole story.
The incident happened so suddenly that Xing Zhaozhao didn't feel anything special at first. But now, as she carefully recalled what had happened and realized the danger involved, she couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat.
As Gao Mingcheng listened to Xing Zhaozhao recount the events in detail, his expression grew increasingly grim, and he gripped Xing Zhaozhao's hand tighter and tighter.
If Chen Dachuan were to appear in front of him right now, he would snap his neck immediately. That damned beast.
He hated himself for not being there for them when they needed him most.
There were some things he had always worried about that would have a bad chain reaction, so he dared not do them. Now it seems that he should not hesitate any longer. He has regretted it for the rest of his life and does not want "him" to live in regret for the rest of his life.
