"Aunt Xing." Gao Qingshan called out to Xing Zhaozhao with a sob in his voice.
Xing Zhaozhao glanced at Grandma Fu and Fu Hong, her face stern and her expression grave: "Where is Fu Lan?"
Grandma Fu burst into tears: "Xiao Lan is missing!"
The sudden crying quickly attracted the attention of those around, even Ling Xiao in the ward looked over curiously.
"Shut up." Xing Zhaozhao glared at her angrily and said in a low voice, "I warned you a long time ago, but you wouldn't listen. Now that the person is gone, what's the use of just crying? You're only affecting the patients in the hospital."
Grandma Fu suddenly stopped talking with a "snap," but tears still streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Looking at her heartbroken grandmother, Fu Hong turned to Xing Zhaozhao, wanting to say something on her grandmother's behalf, but remembering Xing Zhaozhao's prior warning, she couldn't bring herself to speak.
Ling Xiao walked over, looked at Xing Zhaozhao, and asked, "What's wrong? What happened? Do you need help?"
Xing Zhaozhao instinctively wanted to refuse, but considering the current situation, they were not locals after all, and if they really wanted to do something, it would indeed be more convenient to find a local strongman.
She looked apologetically at Ling Xiao and said, "I might really have to trouble you."
Ling Xiao glanced at the curious looks coming from all around him and said, "Let's go find a secluded place to talk. It's not convenient here."
Xing Zhaozhao nodded.
Ling Xiao went back to the ward to ask the nurses to help take care of the child, and then went out with Xing Zhaozhao and the others. They found a secluded corner in the courtyard in front of the hospital.
"What happened?" Ling Xiao asked.
“We have a girl who has gone missing,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
"Missing?" Ling Xiao frowned.
Xing Zhaozhao didn't know the specifics either, so she turned to Gao Qingshan for answers. Gao Qingshan also only had a vague understanding, so he turned to look at Grandma Fu and Fu Hong.
Grandma Fu could only cry and couldn't say a word. In the end, it was Fu Hong who spoke up.
It turned out that Grandma Fu and her two grandsons followed Lin Wan to Qingxi Town and went straight to the state-run restaurant, where they met Yao Xiaozhuang, the little Yao whom Lin Wan had praised to the skies.
Grandma Fu and the other two were not very satisfied with Yao Xiaozhuang at first sight. As his name suggests, Yao Xiaozhuang was indeed very strong, but he was also really short. Fu Lan was petite and delicate, and he was half a head shorter than her. Not only was he short, but he was also ugly and unhygienic. He had a mouthful of yellow teeth. He was wearing a neat Zhongshan suit and leather shoes, but the size was wrong. No matter how you looked at it, it looked like a child wearing adult clothes.
"Is he really from the city?" Fu Hong couldn't help but doubt it the moment she saw him.
Fu Hong had never been to the city, but she had seen quite a few people from the city, especially the educated youth from the city. Even if not all of them were glamorous, at least they were hygienic and kept themselves clean. This one, however, was a bit too slovenly.
She secretly asked Lin Wan.
Lin Wan didn't take it to heart, thinking that she was being too serious. There are all kinds of people in the city, and you can't generalize. If someone is really glamorous, they wouldn't look down on country folk.
Fu Hong felt embarrassed to say anything more, but since it was just a casual meeting and there was no guarantee it would work out, she could simply reject it if she wasn't satisfied.
Fu Lan thought so too, and Grandma Fu initially agreed with her in the same way.
In fact, because Lin Wan's description was so exaggerated and quite different from reality, Grandma Fu was initially uninterested and not very receptive. However, when Yao Xiaozhuang took out four watches and gave one to each of Grandma Fu and her two grandsons as a gift, even including Grandpa Fu who couldn't attend, the old lady was immediately moved.
Although she wasn't good-looking, her family was well-off. Grandma Fu thought that as long as her Xiaolan could enjoy a good life after marrying into the family, other conditions didn't matter. Can good looks put food on the table?
With Yao Xiaozhuang's gift as a precedent, coupled with Lin Wan's constant flattery, Grandma Fu was so flattered that she readily agreed to the marriage.
Fu Lan was stunned; that's not what she said yesterday.
Fu Hong also wanted to try to persuade Grandma Fu.
However, Grandma Fu wouldn't listen to anything at that time. She felt that her two granddaughters didn't understand her good intentions and that they would thank her when they did. So she forcefully suppressed her two granddaughters and forbade them from objecting.
When Grandma Fu had arranged to visit Yao Xiaozhuang to exchange gifts, she happily went out of the state-run restaurant with Lin Wan, along with Fu Lan and Fu Hong, to go home. However, seeing that Fu Lan always had a long face, she was unhappy and couldn't help but scold them again.
Fu Lan got angry and ran away by herself.
Fu Hong wanted to chase after her, but Grandma Fu stopped her, saying, "She's a grown woman, she won't get lost." She wanted to leave her waiting for a while.
I never expected that someone this big would still get lost.
When Grandma Fu thought the clothes had dried long enough, she asked Fu Hong to go look for them, but they were already gone.
Just as they were frantically searching for their way out, Gao Qingshan and Da Han found them, but unfortunately, they were too late.
After hearing what Fu Hong said, Grandma Fu couldn't help but sob again.
Xing Zhaozhao ignored her, frowned, looked at Gao Qingshan, and asked, "Didn't you report it to the public security brigade? Are you asking them to help find the person?"
“We went there, but they thought that someone this big couldn’t just disappear in Qingxi Town. They thought she was hiding somewhere and didn’t want to come out, so they told us to wait a little longer.” Gao Qingshan said, his eyes reddening. “But Xiaolan doesn’t know anyone in Qingxi Town. Where could she be hiding? We’ve searched everywhere, but we haven’t found her. What should we do now, Aunt Xing?”
Xing Zhaozhao frowned even more. If Fu Lan really had hidden herself away, she wouldn't be worried, but she was afraid...
She looked at Ling Xiao questioningly and asked, "I wonder if it would be possible to trouble your people to help me find someone?"
Ling Xiao, however, looked grave, shook his head, and said, "This matter is probably not that simple."
He looked at Grandma Fu and Fu Hong and said, "I think you might have been deceived."
