Gao Mingcheng was startled: "What do you mean? The door can disappear?"
Tan Zhe nodded: "Yes."
“But Zhao Zhao has been using it all along,” Gao Mingcheng said, puzzled.
"Based on my speculation, that door is probably tied to a person, allowing only one specific person to use it at a time," Tan Zhe explained.
Gao Mingcheng's heart sank, and he suddenly had a bad feeling: "Where did your mother go?"
A flicker of pain crossed Tan Zhe's eyes: "She went back to the other side of the gate."
"That can't be right?" Gao Mingcheng looked at Tan Zhe suspiciously. "Didn't you just say that the door was bound to a person and could only be used by one person at a time? Now that the door is still with Zhao Zhao, how can your mother still use it?"
“My mother believed that once the current user of that door died, she could use it again. So, when Miss Xing came over from that direction, she lured her to our house and attacked her. After I put her in the ambulance, I rushed to the abandoned cellar. Seeing my mother still there, I thought she had been saved. But in the end, I watched helplessly as she disappeared before my eyes…” Tan Zhe’s voice choked, and he clutched his head in anguish. “I’m so sorry…”
“But my mother isn’t dead,” Gao Hongfei suddenly said.
Tan Zhe's choked voice faltered, and he suddenly looked up at Gao Hongfei with an incredulous expression: "This... how is this possible?" How the hell could he still walk?
Then, as if remembering something, Gao Hongfei continued, "Oh, right, when my mom was first brought to the hospital, her heart stopped. Does that count as dying?"
If it weren't for the inappropriate atmosphere and occasion, Tan Zhe would have rolled his eyes. Couldn't he stop talking so dramatically? It made him think something unexpected had happened and worry that something bad was going to happen.
“Of course it counts.” Tan Zhe said, and then checked the time with Gao Hongfei to confirm that it was that exact time, proving that his guess was correct.
Gao Mingcheng realized something was wrong, unconsciously clenched his fists, and asked with a grim face, "According to you, Zhaozhao might not be able to go back?"
Gao Hongfei also realized what was happening and his expression changed.
Tan Zhe shook his head.
Gao Mingcheng and Gao Hongfei's eyes immediately lit up. Was there still hope?
“It’s not just a possibility, I’m certain,” Tan Zhe said.
Gao Mingcheng's heart, which had been pounding with anxiety, plummeted. He had already tasted the pain of losing a lover once. Did he really have to make another one experience it? What about his three children, and Zhaozhao? Would she be able to accept it if she found out?
"Isn't there any way to solve this?" Gao Hongfei asked Tan Zhe anxiously.
"Yes," Tan Zhe nodded.
Gao Mingcheng and Gao Hongfei's eyes, which had just dimmed, lit up again.
"What can we do? What's the best approach?" Gao Hongfei asked.
“There’s only one solution right now: we have to wait until my mother is gone, until that door becomes unclaimed again, before we can use it again,” Tan Zhe said.
Gao Hongfei frowned: "But didn't your mother already go to the door?"
“Mm,” Tan Zhe said.
Gao Hongfei: "..." I want to hit someone. He talked a lot of nonsense and got all excited for nothing. No matter how far he stretches his arms, he can't reach into another dimension.
"What should we do, Dad?" Gao Hongfei looked to Gao Mingcheng for help.
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
What can Gao Mingcheng do?
He figured that by now, Zhao Zhao had probably discovered that she hadn't returned, and that old lady Tan had taken her place, and that she must be frantic with worry.
However, it's unlikely that the old lady Tan would reveal the binding rules of that door to him. He probably doesn't know what's going on yet, and even if he did, could he really bring himself to do it?
Gao Mingcheng shook his head, feeling a headache coming on, and stood up, leaning on his cane.
"Where are you going, Dad?" Gao Hongfei asked in surprise.
“Go to the hospital to see your mother,” Gao Mingcheng said.
"About that door..." Gao Hongfei asked.
Gao Mingcheng turned to look at Tan Zhe and said, "Didn't you bring back the experts? Continue the research. Have someone trustworthy keep an eye on the other side of the gate. If that old lady comes back, control her immediately." He had let it go before because he was worried that if too many people knew, the news would leak out, but now he couldn't worry about that anymore.
Gao Hongfei nodded, then, thinking of Xing Zhaozhao who was still unconscious in the hospital, said worriedly, "If Mom wakes up and finds out..."
Gao Mingcheng pondered for a moment and said, "Let's wait until your mother wakes up. Professor Tan's speculation may not be correct." Xing Zhaozhao hadn't woken up yet, and even after personally going to try, he still held onto a sliver of hope.
Gao Mingcheng ran into Xing Zhaoming as he went out.
Upon seeing Gao Mingcheng, Xing Zhaoming immediately adopted a look of alarm: "Are you going out too? Where are you going?"
Gao Mingcheng glanced at him, and said as he continued walking out, "Wherever you go, I'll go."
Xing Zhaoming quickly caught up with him, saying unhappily, "What are you going to do? Only one person can enter the intensive care unit at a time."
“I know. You went yesterday, so it should be my turn today, right?” Gao Mingcheng said matter-of-factly.
“Why should I? I’m her own brother, I have to go,” Xing Zhaoming retorted.
Gao Mingcheng couldn't help but roll his eyes: "She's my wife, so why should I?"
Xing Zhaoming quickly got into the car: "I don't care, I'm going today anyway."
Gao Mingcheng: "..."
Gao Mingcheng didn't say anything, got into the car, and gave the driver a wink, which the driver understood.
When they arrived at the hospital entrance, Gao Mingcheng had already gotten out of the car. Xing Zhaoming noticed that the door on his side couldn't be opened. By the time he realized what was happening and tried to get out from Gao Mingcheng's side, the door was already closed and locked.
"Hey, wait a minute, I haven't gotten off the bus yet," Xing Zhaoming called out anxiously from inside the car.
Gao Mingcheng smiled, waved at him, and turned to leave.
Xing Zhaoming: "..."
Xing Zhaoming was furious: "What a despicable and shameless scoundrel! He actually resorted to such despicable means!"
Fortunately, the driver is still there.
He immediately lunged at the driver and grabbed him by the neck: "Let me out."
driver:"……"
The driver had no choice but to open the car door.
Unfortunately, although the delay wasn't long, by the time Xing Zhaoming arrived, he was still a step too late. Gao Mingcheng had already gone in first, which made Xing Zhaoming furious. He stood outside, counting on his fingers, ready to give his ungrateful brother-in-law a piece of his mind later.
Gao Mingcheng sat down by the hospital bed, looking at Xing Zhaozhao's pale face and thinking about Tan Zhe's words, his heart clenched.
He gently took Xing Zhaozhao's hand and whispered, "What should I do, Zhaozhao..."
Xing Zhaozhao's fingers suddenly twitched.
