Suddenly, Gao Mingcheng's fingers twitched.
Xing Zhaozhao's voice suddenly stopped. After a moment of stunned silence, she turned sharply to look at Gao Lianzhou: "Lianzhou, your great-grandfather's finger moved. Is he about to wake up?"
Gao Lianzhou was still pondering the meaning behind Xing Zhaozhao's words and did not react for a moment.
Xing Zhaozhao frowned, raised her voice, and called out again, "Gao Lianzhou."
Gao Lianzhou shuddered, only then coming to her senses, and looked at Xing Zhaozhao: "W-what?"
"What are you thinking about? Didn't you hear me when I called you?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.
Gao Lianzhou looked at Xing Zhaozhao, her eyes flickering, but she didn't say it outright: "N-nothing."
She had actually had three children with her great-grandfather. He couldn't even imagine what kind of earth-shattering repercussions would come if his family found out.
"What is it?" he asked.
Xing Zhaozhao exclaimed with delight, "Your great-grandfather's fingers moved!"
"What?" Gao Lianzhou exclaimed in surprise and immediately rushed over. "Let me see."
Upon inspection, sure enough, he immediately pressed the nurse call button.
Turning his head, he saw Xing Zhaozhao still sitting there, and he quickly pulled her up: "You'd better hurry up, the doctors and nurses will be here soon. If they see you here and tell Grandpa, my bottom will be in trouble."
Xing Zhaozhao looked at Gao Mingcheng on the hospital bed with reluctance. She had only been there a short while and didn't want to leave.
Gao Mingcheng couldn't drag her away, and he stomped his feet in frustration: "If you don't leave now, and Grandpa finds out, I'll get a beating on my bottom. Don't blame me for not helping you again."
Xing Zhaozhao: "..." Now, even if she didn't want to leave, she had no choice.
However, after leaving the ward, Xing Zhaozhao did not rush to leave. She hid in the stairwell where she had previously been hiding, and waited until she had confirmed Gao Mingcheng's condition before leaving.
Xing Zhaozhao had just stepped out of the ward when the nurse arrived. Upon seeing Gao Lianzhou, she asked, "What happened?"
Gao Lianzhou pointed to Gao Mingcheng's trembling fingers and said with a joyful expression, "My great-grandfather is responding."
The nurse saw it and couldn't help but show a look of surprise on her face: "I'll go and inform the doctor right away."
Upon receiving the news, Wen Sinan immediately came over and gave Gao Mingcheng a thorough physical examination. She then shared the good news with Gao Hongfei: the old man's consciousness was recovering and he might wake up at any time.
Gao Hongfei was in a board meeting at the company when he received the news. He immediately stopped the meeting and rushed to the hospital with his eldest son, Gao Han.
When they arrived at the ward door, they happened to see Wen Sinan, who had just finished a physical examination for Gao Mingcheng, coming out with other doctors and nurses.
"You're here." Wen Sinan said with a smile when she saw Gao Hongfei.
Gao Hongfei nodded and asked eagerly, "Mom, how is Dad now?"
"Just like I told you on the phone, he is indeed responding, and his consciousness is slowly returning. Although I don't know when he will wake up, he will definitely wake up. You can relax now," Wen Sinan said, patting Gao Hongfei's shoulder reassuringly.
"That's good." Gao Hongfei was finally relieved and asked Wen Sinan for more details, which Wen Sinan told him one by one.
While no one was paying attention, a figure quietly emerged from the stairwell not far away, pretending to pass by them, sniffing out what they were saying, and then quickly left.
Gao Han glanced over unintentionally and noticed it. This figure looked vaguely familiar.
However, by the time he tried to look again, the person had already gone far away and disappeared.
After speaking with Gao Hongfei, Wen Sinan left with the other doctors and nurses.
Gao Hongfei was about to enter the ward when he saw Gao Han standing there blankly, seemingly lost in thought. He patted him and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I just saw someone walk by. The back view looked familiar, like that person," Gao Han said.
Gao Hongfei didn't respond immediately and asked, "Who is it?"
Gao Han gestured towards the ward with his chin: "The one Grandpa found for himself."
Upon hearing this, Gao Hongfei's expression hardened, and he immediately looked around for her: "She's here? Where is she?"
"They've already left. They probably saw us here and didn't dare come over," Gao Han said.
Gao Hongfei snorted coldly and said, "She's smart enough to know her place."
As he spoke, he turned to go into the ward, only to find that the two caregivers he had arranged to stand guard at the ward door were nowhere to be seen.
"Where did the caregiver go?" he asked, puzzled.
Gao Han was aware of his arrangements: "Will he go into the ward to keep watch?"
Gao Hongfei then pushed open the door and entered the ward.
In the ward, the two caregivers were still nowhere to be seen; only Gao Lianzhou was seen guarding Gao Mingcheng's bedside.
Upon seeing Gao Hongfei and Gao Han, Gao Lianzhou immediately stood up and called out, "Grandpa, Dad, you're here!"
"Hmm." Gao Hongfei responded, looked around, and asked, "I arranged for two caregivers to stand guard outside the ward. Where are they? Have you seen them?"
Gao Lianzhou's eyes flashed, and she said, "Oh, them? I sent them back."
Gao Hongfei frowned and asked, "Who told you to act on your own?"
"You had them guarding the ward door just to prevent Fairy Sister from coming to see Great-Grandpa, right? When I came over, I saw them chasing Fairy Sister away. She's already gone, so she definitely won't be coming back. I told them to go back and rest. It's really an eyesore for them to be standing there like that." Gao Lianzhou spoke confidently, but his constantly shifting eyes betrayed his guilty conscience.
With a biological father and a biological grandfather who watched him grow up, how could they not see through his little schemes?
Gao Hongfei snorted coldly and tapped his cane twice on the floor: "You're the one who tricked those two caregivers away so that your fairy sister would come to see your great-grandfather, right?"
Gao Lianzhou couldn't hide her thoughts at all. She suddenly looked up at Gao Hongfei, her face full of shock: "Grandpa, how did you know?"
Gao Hongfei: "..."
Gao Hongfei sighed helplessly, turned to look at Gao Han, and said, "When you have time in the future, take this kid to the company more often to broaden his horizons. Otherwise, I'm afraid he might ruin our family business one day."
Gao Han nodded, "Got it." Then, he raised his hand and tapped Gao Lianzhou on the forehead, "Can't you be a little more righteous?"
Gao Lianzhou covered her head, her face full of righteous indignation: "Don't underestimate me, I will become very powerful."
"That would be perfect." Gao Hongfei said, walking straight to the bedside and sitting down. Looking at his father, who was still unconscious on the bed, he paused for a moment, then asked somewhat reluctantly, "Did she notice that your great-grandfather was reacting?"
Gao Lianzhou nodded, looking at Gao Hongfei in surprise: "You could have guessed that, Grandpa?"
Gao Hongfei chuckled and then asked, "What has she been doing since she arrived?"
Gao Lianzhou's eyes flashed again, and she said, "I didn't do anything, I just called out to my great-grandfather twice."
Gao Hongfei didn't notice, but Gao Han saw all the little expressions on Gao Lianzhou's face. His heart skipped a beat; this kid wasn't telling the truth.
